HISTORY FILE
This Volkswgen Golf GTi was first registered on the 15th August 1989 by main dealers Links Garage to a Mr W Hird.  His pride and joy and returning to the same dealer for servicing until his driving retirement in 1995.  During this time the car was known by the only other owner and neighbour, Mr S Green.  Mr Green had mentioned on more than one occasion his desire to purchase the car with polite refusal each time.  Unfortunately Mr Hird was prompted into selling in 2010 when burglars tried to access his property via the garage damaging the bonnet to his car in the process.  Mr Green was given permission at this point to buy the car after a strict vetting process!  Used by Mr Green for shows and VW events the car has continued to lead a pampered life.  Evidence of this can be seen by a Tatton Park trophy and VWNW Watercooled Concours Judging Sheet where the car came second in class.

The original VW grey document holder is also with the car that contains all the owners manuals, instructions pamphlets and dealer paraphernalia.  Very special.

The breathtaking pretty Michelotti design looks simply beautiful in the original colour of Triumph Signal Red (Code 32).  The paintwork to this wonderful Mk2 has a glorious deep, well polished shine and uniform finish.  Only very minor chips and blemishes can be seen upon inspection and the tip of the boot lid has minor blisters.  The quality polished chrome is bright and the stainless steel wing beadings are perfect.  The removable hood and frame are in excellent order with no rip or tears and the plastic rear screen sections are clear and damage free.  The optional tonneau cover is still present.  A very clean and presentable engine bay is ready for bonnet up exhibiting with beautifully clean and shiny inner wings sections to enhance the wow factor.  All original exterior badges and brightwork remain intact and in excellent order.  A true testament to the cars second owner who cherished the vehicle for an incredible 45 years!  Stunning.

INTERIOR
A well appointment and smartly finished interior will please any onlooker.  Original period features such as fully functional Jaeger gauges housed in the original fascia and door cards with the correct interior furnishings are exactly as Triumph intended.  Additional oil pressure and voltmeter gauges have been fitted and provide healthy readings.  Replacement seats from a Mazda MX5 are a common modification and offer a huge improvement to the original items in terms of comfort, safety and usability for long distance touring.  The seats are showing only mild signs of wear and the replacement moulded carpeting is clean and wear free.  The perfect balance of traditional charm and modern improvement with none of the little red sports car magic compromised.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The standard 1147cc four cylinder unit remains fitted but having undergone a huge program of professional reworking with many quality uprated components fitted.  Having been fully stripped, the engine was taken to a specialist where the components and rotating assemblies were honed and dynamically balanced whilst also being converted to run on unleaded.  An exhaustive list of revisions is fantastic reading and a further improvement in the form of a Ford Type-9 five speed gearbox offers exceptional driving manners and far superior cruising characteristics.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Stunning chromed wire wheels create the perfect appearance and are shod in quality matching Kumho 155/80 R13 tyres with masses of tread remaining.  The brakes were reworked as part of the extensive mechanical refurbishment and offer ample straight line stopping power.

HISTORY FILE
A truly amazing history to add further appeal to this charming little car.  Registered new on the 1st October 1965, the Spitfire was purchased by second owner Mr Grahame Bellamy at just three years old with approximately 28,000 miles covered.  Incredibly the car remained in his ownership for 45 years until 2013 when he passed it on to a very close and dear friend.  Used regularly until 1980 upon the purchase of a 1979 MGB GT, the Spitfire was stored until the early 1990’s whereby a full strip down was undertaken.  In early 2003 an extensive and complete program of restoration began with continuous improvement ever since.  The rebuild has been undertaken so as to enable the car to take part in many rallies and tours which it has done so without objection.

An impressive history file contains even the very first insurance certificate from the Road Transport & General Insurance Company Limited in Mr Bellamy’s name dated 1968!  A large collection of specialist receipts and invoices help to evidence the incredible rebuild that has taken place leaving a car that is now wanting for nothing and ready for enjoyment.  A hand written account of the car’s history from Mr Bellamy as well as photos of touring holidays complete the wonderful history file for this delightful classic British sports car.

Various best in show trophies and awards illustrate the achievements resulting from Mr Mumford’s efforts and sheer devotion to building one of the best modified Fiestas out there with just 6,484 miles covered since rebuild.  Utterly nostalgic and a total throwback to the epic 1990’s Max Power scene.  Wicked!
