Renault Alpine A610 Turbo

SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

An immaculate 1/67 RHD Renault Alpine A610 Turbos with only 2,518 miles.

MODEL HISTORY
Jean Rédélé was the youngest Renault Dealer in France and launched his first car in 1954, naming it after the classic French road trial.  The A106 had early success in the Mille Miglia Road Race and was the beginning of a fruitful mutual partnership between Alpine and Renault.  With continual rally success by 1968 Alpine had been allocated the whole Renault competition budget and opened a new assembly plant in Dieppe.  Iconic cars including the A108, A110, A310 and GTA/A610 were hand built there but high assembly costs and low demand, (due to the cost when new), only 818 A610 Turbos were made when production ceased in 1995, of which just 67 were RHD.  The Alpine factory remained open building cars such as the Clio Williams and RenaultSport Spiders and in 2017 the Alpine marque was relaunched with an all-new A110.

EQUIPMENT
Impact-resistant reinforced lightweight composite body, integrated side skirts, front and rear spoilers, aerodynamic flat underbody, pop-up halogen headlights, twin exhausts, 6-speaker stereo system, air conditioning, power steering, one-touch electric windows, turbo pressure gauge, multi-function trip computer, dash rheostat, electric heated door mirrors, folding rear 2+2 seats, leather-bound sports steering wheel, remote-control hi-fi.

EXTERIOR
The sleek lines and painstakingly designed details of the Alpine A610 combined with carefully-honed aerodynamics result in a stunning supercar appearance.  Finished in sensational Metallic Aspen Blue, (Code 543), the glossy shine is perfectly uniform and all decals and badges are present. Alpine enthusiasts will note two uniform lines spanning the roof from right to left exactly factory correct and lost on a repainted less original examples.  All glass, rubbers and wheel apertures are as new.  Having covered delivery mileage until 2006 and now with an incredible 2,518 miles, this really is as perfect as it gets.

INTERIOR
The ergonomically-designed ‘Petale’ sports seats finished in special order Blue Leather, are immaculate and along with the rest of the interior, commensurate with the amazingly low 2,518 miles covered.  All dials, gauges and electronic displays function perfectly including the heater fan on all speed settings. The instrument binnacle still has the plastic protective cover attached and Alpine carpets mats are fitted.  The leather-bound sports steering wheel with the Alpine Blue logo has no wear.  A common issue with this model and its predecessor, the GTA, is the headlining and lifting is visible.  A very exclusive, hand built and rare environment.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Under the bonnet and engine compartment is as new with all stickers, plates and labels still attached.  Even factory PDI paint dabs are clearly visible.  The light alloy 2975cc V6 engine equipped with an electronically controlled Garrett T3 turbocharger produces 250bhp which is enough to propel this Supercar to a top speed of 165mph and 0-62 in 5.7secs.  The 5-speed aluminium alloy gearbox performs faultlessly.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Fitted with instantly recognised and immaculate 16in Turbine alloy wheels shod in Toyo Proxes tyres all-round measuring 205/45 ZR16 front and 245/45 ZR16 rear.  Front and rear ventilated discs with Bosch 5-sensor ABS brakes stop this supercar quickly and safely.

HISTORY FILE
A remarkable and privileged history.  This example was a special order RHD vehicle  manufactured on the 11th March 1992 and registered on the 11th June 1992, as confirmed in writing by Renault UK Ltd.  It was produced along with 28 other RHD cars in 1992 and just 67 RHD cars in total, (Source: Renault Alpine Owners Club).  Immediately delivered to a wealthy Renault Franchise Owner in Singapore where it resided in his private Renault collection with delivery mileage only.  Arriving in the UK in 2006 having been sourced by Radford Racing who also purchased a Red LHD delivery mileage example from the same collection.  The magazine adverts in Classic & Sports Car when both cars were advertised for sale are included in the comprehensive history file.  Sold to the only UK owner and Alpine enthusiast, Mr Mike Vorndran in May 2007, the Sales Invoice reveals the purchase price of £19,000.  Mr Vordran subsequently booked the car into Renault Slough and paid £1,384 to replace the instrument cluster and convert from Km/h to mph.  At the point of change the instrument reading was documented at 602km or 374 miles.  Mr Vordran has continued to cherish the car and the history file is neatly presented with a vast number of invoices to prove the mechanical wellbeing and nurtured upkeep along with all previous MOT certificates to verify the mileage.  The vehicle has attended numerous Renault Alpine events and is well known and highly respected in the Renault Alpine Owners Club.  The rare car is presented with two keys on Alpine leather key fobs, all handbooks and the original black Alpine leather pouch.  Also included are workshop manuals and period magazine features. Probably the best, lowest mileage and most original Renault Alpine A610 Turbo in the world.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

The engine bay is pristine and proudly displays the bright red ‘Kompressor’ rocker cover infill as well as factory stickers, bulkhead chassis stamp and slam panel stamping. The standard electronically controlled 5-speed automatic transmission operates precisely as it should with positive kickdown and both manual control and winter/sport modes.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Factory upgrade 17” AMG alloy wheels are in superb order with no kerb damage and only miniscule markings. Quality matching Continental ContiSport tyres of size 225/45 R17 front and 245/40 R17 rear have plenty of tread remaining. The anti-lock braking system offers absolute stopping power to install complete peace of mind.

All exterior trim items and decals are pristine other than two touched in marks to the coachline and a tiny mark to the scuttle panel. The body has never been machine polished and retains its desirable factory standard appearance craved by purists and exactly as Ford intended. The underside is remarkable and is a perfect reflection of the low mileage, warm storage conditions and limited fair weather use. Simply breathtaking.

INTERIOR
The interior is distinguished by seats fully trimmed with luxurious, high quality Raven leather with Burgundy piping and are Recaro designs. The deep pile grey carpeting is spotless and the black perforated headlining is tight and clean along with the leather covered steering wheel and gear knob, all commensurate with the incredibly low miles covered. There are absolutely no cracks to the dash and the dials, switches and controls are brilliantly clear. Carpet mats have been fitted and minor veins to the driver seat are barely visible. All controls and gauges fully function including the two-speed heater fan, analogue quartz clock and electronic cassette player. The rear parcel-shelf is incredible and the boot area remains unused. This is a very exclusive and iconic 80’s interior exactly true to the manufacturers intentions.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The Capri 2.8i was entrusted to Fords Special Vehicle Engineering group, (SVE), who added a Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection system, an oil/water heat exchanger, viscous coupled fan and an improved radiator making this models 158 BHP capable of 130mph and 0-60mph in 7.9 seconds. The engine is smooth and quiet whilst producing an unmistakable burble. Correct factory under bonnet identification plates are intact including the metal plate with the ‘Brooklands’ inscription and exhibitionists will wow spectators with the cleanliness and originality under the bonnet. The 5 speed gearbox is light and progression through the range is precise.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
This 280 Capri is fitted with the factory correct and unique 7-spoke 7X15 inch alloy wheels and have never been refurbished. Premium matching Continental 195/50 ZR15 tyres are fitted and are as new. The spare is still the original Pirelli Cinturato P7 tyre. The hydraulic dual-line servo-assisted brakes with ventilated front discs unique on the 2.8i stop the car quickly and in a straight line.

HISTORY FILE
Coveted by collectors the limited edition Capri 280 is the most difficult ‘car you promised yourself’ as only 1038 were produced to celebrate the last of a famous line. GG11829 is build number 971 and has only had two former keepers from new. The first owner was Ford themselves who registered the car on the 1st August 1987 followed by Mr Powell who purchased it when just six months old. The Used Vehicle Invoice reveals the sum paid of £9,960.50 when the car had covered 3,070 miles. Mr Powell also stipulated at this time that the oil be changed to Shell Gemini Motor Oil, a premium oil and his only choice. He lovingly garaged the vehicle for most of its life (hence the low mileage of 6,212) and kept the car in pristine condition – which is how it still presents today. In 2013 when Chris Powell sadly passed away, the car was sold to best friend and third registered keeper, Mr Gilette who recognised the significance of this 280 and also kept the car in a preserved state. The car’s condition today is stunning and KGF Classic have embarked on a full recommissioning programme using only genuine Ford service items ready for the next owner to enjoy and cherish.

EXTERIOR
This brilliant VTR hot hatch is finished in factory optional and desirable Topaz Gold Metallic, (Code KAU).  This standard example has thankfully avoided the boy racer fate that befell most cars and the paintwork looks superb with a bright polished finish.  Incredibly, the lightweight factory panels and trim sections are in good condition, (the unladen weight is only 935kg!).  Minor age related markings and stone chips can be seen, and there is light distortion to the nearside rear lower plastic trim, utterly insignificant.  The glass is factory fitment with original stickers and the driver’s door aperture still displays the factory build label.  A rare find in factory standard specification and certain to stir up youthful nostalgia for an entire generation of petrolheads!

INTERIOR
The care bestowed on this cherished car is clearly evident in the excellent condition of the fragile interior.  The original Delta cloth upholstery only fitted to the VTR model is clean and unworn along with the pristine door inserts.  The headlining, plastic trim and fascia are perfect and fully functional white dials remind the driver of the sporting credentials.  The original RDS radio with single CD remains fitted and operational.  The boot area containing the wheel brace and towing eye is very clean and displays PDI markings and the original metal data plate.  A very clean and unspoilt interior.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
This Mk2 VTR is fitted with the revised 97bhp four cylinder 1.6L 8 valve engine.  A top speed of 120mph and 0-62mph in 9.4 seconds is quoted and this lively little car is huge fun to drive.  The engine bay remains exactly as intended and displays factory stickers, plates and panel stampings.  The five-speed manual transmission offers light and direct changes with a sporty feel.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The factory fitted 14” Toulouse alloy wheels remain in excellent condition with only light markings and no kerb damage.  Brand new quality Dunlop Sport bluresponse 185/55 R14 tyres were fitted in January 2019.  The servo assisted brakes with discs all round provide safe assured stopping power.

HISTORY FILE
Registered new on the 3rd September 2001 by Citroen Main Dealer Broads of Chalfont Ltd, this example has covered just 52,519 miles from new with three owners in total.  The full service history consists of the original service book containing all dealership guarantee stamps plus 10 service stamped entries, including the latest cambelt change in May 2016 at 46,522 miles.  The full original Citroen document wallet containing all handbooks, guides and point of sale literature as well as the original PDI check sheet.  A further folder contains MOT certificates and maintenance invoices, and there are two original Citroen keys present.  Representing a very rare example of an often modified and abused hot hatch, the classic car world is quickly realising the increased desirability of sporting Saxo’s with good examples very difficult to find.
