Rover 214SEi

SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

An outstanding Rover 214SEi with only 13,187 miles and 20 service stamps!

EQUIPMENT
Duotone paint finish, Rover grille with chrome surround, bodyside mouldings with red insert, grey rear applique, green tinted glass, windscreen shadeband, remote tailgate release, remote fuel filler release, remote adjust door mirrors, burr walnut fascia insert, central door locking, permetric anti-theft alarm with engine immobiliser, driver’s docket pocket, passenger vanity mirror, coin tray, bright door sill tread strips, electronic tune radio cassette R652.

EXTERIOR
This beautifully preserved early Rover 214SEi is finished in stunning Duotone Pearlescent Nightfire Red over Tempest Grey, (Code RDX). Having covered just 13,187 miles from new with husband and wife ownership throughout, the factory paint finish is simply remarkable and all original panels and bodywork are near pristine. Tiny touched in scratches are visible on close inspection, most notable on the boot lid edge. Trim sections, badges and rubbers are fully intact with only a light scuff to offside front bumper corner. Originality seekers will be pleased to see the supplying Rover main dealer number plates, rear screen sticker and credit card style VIN plate in the front windscreen. The SEi model was a desirable choice within the Rover 200 Series range and once a common sight on our roads. This strictly garaged rare survivor displays its low mileage and low owner credentials with true pride.

INTERIOR
A typically plush interior to be expected from Rover features Renaissance seat facings in Granite colour scheme, (Code LOY). Entirely reflective of its pampered existence and 13,187 miles, the interior is in perfect showroom condition with no wear or damage to the upholstery whatsoever. The fascia, trim and walnut insert are as new. The pristine cut pile carpets having been protected from new by carpet mats and the often-troublesome headlining is perfect in every respect. All functions and controls operate perfectly including the original Rover R652 stereo cassette. Very comfortable and awfully nostalgic!

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Fitted with the K-Series 16v double overhead camshaft engine with electronic multi-point fuel injection, this 1396cc unit develops 102bhp at 6000rpm and 127Nm torque at 5000rpm. This is enough to achieve a top speed of 113mph and 0-60 is dealt with in an impressive 10.1 seconds. Evidenced by 20 stamped entries in the service book, this well-maintained example feels tight and delivers responsive acceleration and a civilised driving manner. The engine bay is immaculate and displays factory stickers, labels and bulkhead VIN stamp. Gear changes via the 5-speed manual box are light and precise, affirming once more the cars ultra-low mileage credentials and pampered existence.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The factory 14in steel wheels wear the original and correct Prestige wheel trims which remain as new with no damage. There is plenty of tread remaining on the factory fitted Dunlop SP9 175/65 R14 tyres but renewal prior to regular use would be a wise precaution simply due to age. The spare wheel and tyre have never seen the road and the tyre still has the original label and coloured banding! Also, the unused jack and wheel brace remain in the polystyrene holder. Diagonally split and dual-circuit servo assisted brakes offer assured straight-line stopping power.

HISTORY FILE
Supplied new on the 5th November 1993 by SMC Rover of Slough, this example has covered an amazing 13,187 miles from new. A new vehicle order form and sales invoice is made out to Mr John Savage who owned the car until 2017. Upon his passing the car was transferred to his wife Hazel who remains the only other keeper. At a cost illustrated on the sales invoice of £10,645, a part exchange allowance was given for his 1990 Nissan Sunny that had covered just 10,500 miles! Mr and Mrs Savage adored the car and kept it immaculate and strictly garaged. Despite the low mileage, the service book contains a remarkable 20 stamped service entries, 19 of which are the supplying dealer, SMC Rover, with every supporting invoice in the history folder! The grey Rover wallet holds all handbooks, guides, code cards and dealership point of sale literature and there are three Rover keys. A further file of paperwork includes previous MOT certificates and an original Rover 214 SEi brochure.

It is difficult to comprehend a superior example with this car’s low owner, low mileage and amazing service history credentials. One for the Rover collector and avid enthusiast to preserve and treasure.

The servo assisted brakes with 9.4” ventilated discs up front stop the car well.

HISTORY FILE
Assembled at the Ford Saarlouis Plant, Germany in April 1985 and registered new on the 16th August 1985 on a ‘C’ plate prefix, this very late MK3 XR3i was supplied new by Ford Main Dealers Bristol Street Motors Limited of Birmingham. Previous long term owner, Mr Phillip Woods who in fact has owned the car twice, was a regular attendee on the Ford Fair Concours and show scene in the mid to late 1990’s and the car won many awards. Entered bi-annually in the Ford XR Owners Club National Days in 1996,1997,1998 and 1999, the car won in the Standard Factory Class on all eight occasions with trophies still with the car! The car was always trailered to shows but secretly driven off close to the venue resulting in less preparation time before the show! It was kept in a heated garage at all other times. In 2001, Mr Woods made the decision to sell, something he soon became to regret, but as luck would have it, he spotted a classified advert with it for sale in Edinburgh in 2004 whereby he promptly took a flight from Staffordshire and drove the car home!

A neatly presented history folder contains a huge file of receipts and Ford main dealer invoices as well as previous MOT certificates dating back to the very first in 1988. There are two sets of original keys and one key fits all locks. Sold by KGF Classic Cars to Mark Bailey, creator of the famous Bonkers Collection in January 2020 only to be part-exchanged against our 17,000 mile Series One RS Turbo. This outstanding XR3i will appeal to a serious collector or enthusiast wanting a fabulous proven example of an iconic and fast appreciating icon that has played a huge part in the history of Fast Fords.

Mk1 Ford Escort Twin Cam

SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

An AVO Club Registered and National Day winning Mk1 Ford Escort Twin Cam

MODEL HISTORY
Prior to the Advanced Vehicle Operations (AVO) Plant at Aveley being opened, all Twin Cam Escorts were constructed at Fords Halewood Factory. On the same assembly lines as other Escorts, through body assembly, paint and trim areas until the point mechanical components were added and make the vital body strengthening changes. At this stage they would be taken off the line into a separate small workshop where a dozen specially chosen workers were ready to slot in the unique components. Roger Clark took a ‘works’ Twin-Cam, registered XOO262F to its first international rally in April 1968 and Group 2 homologation was achieved on the 1st May 1968 when Ford convinced the authorities that 1000 cars had been made. By the middle of the year Twin-Cams were winning in rallies and on the race track. Queues built up and order books lengthened and most cars once delivered were usually rushed into a workshop, stripped and modified for a particular purpose. A total of just 1,263 Twin Cams were produced at Halewood and approximately 60 Twin Cams are registered with the AVO Club as of Jan 2020. (Source: Mark Heath AVO Twin Cam Registrar).

EQUIPMENT
Type 49 bodyshell, black painted grille, front quarter bumpers, flared front wings, strengthened chassis rails, strengthened flitch plates, boot floor stone deflector, reversing lights, foot operated windscreen washers, internal bonnet release, two-speed wipers, rev counter, speedo, battery condition indicator, fuel and oil pressure gauges, Aeroflow ventilation, sun visors, cigar lighter, ash trays, courtesy light.

EXTERIOR
This rare sporting Twin Cam still has its factory Type 49 strengthened bodyshell finished in glorious Ermine White, (Code B). Such are the excellent credentials that a number of AVO trophies have been awarded at National Day, the latest being in 2019. Being a later example it is fitted with the circular headlamps and the rear lenses are genuine FoMoCo items. The chrome has a mirror finish and along with all other trim is in excellent condition. The rear bumper is a genuine Ford item but incorrect for the year and the chrome roof drip rails are not fitted. A small engine fire is well documented after the car failed to attend AVO Day in 2013 and photographs show the minor damage. The owner decided at this point to embark on a full engine rebuild and body restoration with invoices and photos to prove. It has continued to attend the show circuit with proven success since.

INTERIOR
A basic and tasteful interior correct to factory specification with the fully-tilting GT type fixed back seats finished in Black PVC in remarkable condition. ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Taken directly from the Lotus Cortina Mk2, the chain driven DOHC 1558cc engine built by Lotus at Hethel, these power units need little introduction. This particular engine has had a documented engine rebuild in 2013 by Mass Racing Developments in Bedfordshire and an invoice for £6741.12 is included. Impeccable annual maintenance since it has been dyno tested and produces 130.6bhp. A Ford Type-3 four-speed gearbox with three-rail shift mechanism and remote change, also known as the 2000E box, offers precise crisp changes and the hydraulic clutch is light with the correct combined brake/clutch master cylinder mounted in the engine bay.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Lotus Cortina wide steel wheels fill the arches nicely measuring 5.5x13in and topped with immaculate chrome hubcaps. Quality AVON 175/70 R13 tyres are fitted to all five immaculate rims with two unused matching tyres included. Stopping a Twin Cam is an impressive standard brake setup. Front discs and larger rear drums as fitted to the Capri 3.0 and later AVO Escorts are pressurised by a Girling Powerstop remote servo recently overhauled in January 2020.

HISTORY FILE
Built at the Halewood factory in October 1970 this Twin Cam has been long registered with the Ford AVO Club and certified as a rare surviving example still with its original Type 49 bodyshell. First registered on the 9th March 1971 it has only had five former keepers. The last two keepers being Steve Smith in 2008, the then AVO Club Secretary followed by Graham Chadband in 2011 the Clubs PR & Events Organiser. Both individuals are incredibly experienced Twin Cam gurus and their lengthy ownership should help reassure the next custodian. Mr Chadband is fastidious with annual invoices for upkeep and a no expense spared mentality in making sure this example is on the button and can be driven anywhere. It recently enjoyed an outing to The Goodwood Revival Meeting in September 2019. The vehicle is well known on the show circuit winning Best Twin Cam in 2011 and 2017 and third in class in 2019, all at the prestigious Ford AVO Owners Club National Days. This rare Ford is also featured in the May 1999 edition of Classic & Sports Car Magazine. Very special in all areas.
