There is a very light long scratch to the lower rear nearside wing, not very noticeable. The underside is in superb order. All factory chrome has a bright mirror finish with only light aging and the trim sections and rubbers are in excellent order. The boot lid and front wing Rover and 2200TC badges are near perfect but the front Rover emblem is crazed and discoloured. A truly opulent design from the Rover heydays and very difficult to better with this exceptional example.

INTERIOR
The lavish interior is typical of this era of Rover and remains in outstanding original condition commensurate with the low 42,269 miles covered. The factory coverings to the box-pleated double-corded brushed nylon seats in Sandalwood are in excellent condition and are free from damage or significant wear. The seats are immensely comfortable and a true sense of occasion overwhelms on every journey. The matching door cards with wood veneer cappings and the headlining are immaculate and the beautifully ornate steering wheel and switchgear are a delight for appreciators of the bygone era. All functions and controls operate including the original LW/MW radio. The carpets are clean with a few very isolated and small areas of thinning to the main touch points. The huge luggage area boasts a neat custom made and removable false floor to hide the spare wheel as opposed the original vertical mounted arrangement. The spare wheel cover and bracket are included to revert back if required. This is truly a first-class interior of this iconic model complete with delightful period Rover scent!

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Powered by the factory fitted 2200TC specification engine, this four-cylinder unit with aluminium alloy head and twin S.U.HIF 6 carburettors produces 115bhp and 183Nm of torque. The engine breathes through a stainless-steel exhaust and performs brilliantly, is surprisingly swift and a real pleasure to drive. The unmolested engine bay is beautifully clean and displays factory stickers, labels and the inner wings both have the original chassis number stamp. The four-speed gearbox has synchromesh on all forward gears and operates brilliantly.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Full width easy-clean polished stainless steel trim covers are in remarkable condition and look superb, and the matching classic style tyres of size 165/80 R14 have masses of tread remaining. Factory fitted with Girling disc brakes front and rear and featuring servo assistance, this advanced for the time and well-maintained braking system operates very well. New discs have been fitted to the front and the braking system overhauled.

HISTORY FILE
This incredible example was registered new on 17th January 1974 to a Mr Veal by Rover Main Dealer, Mann Egerton Limited in Norfolk. The exterior colour of Mexico Brown is recorded along with all vehicle identification numbers that match that of the Factory Record Certificate. There are just five former keepers in total one of which known well to KGF Classic Cars, Mr Berridge, a retired Mechanical Engineer and Draughtsman of esteemed seniority. The car was kept in the highly talented Mr Berridges large garden workshop where he also made from scratch incredible scaled down ride-on Land Rover’s for his Grandchildren, fully working with electric motors!

The large history file supports the genuine 42,465 miles from new and includes the original Passport to Service (service book) and the Rover 2200 owner’s manual. A comprehensive file of invoices and MOT certificates date back to the early 1980’s and service records date back to the PDI and running in service carried out in 1974. Benelli Tornado Tre 900 LE

SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

A Benelli Tornado Tre 900 LE ‘Novecento’ number 064/150 with only 128 miles.

MODEL HISTORY
The Benelli Tornado Tre is a Series of sports bikes produced from 2002 to 2014 by Benelli of Pesaro, Italy. The motorcycle resurrected the brand after a prior merge with Moto Guzzi in 1988, to create Guzzi Benelli Moto S.p.A., where Benelli production stopped and the production plants in Pesaro were sold. In 1995 under new acquisition of the Benelli rights, owner Andrea Merloni noted the success of the revival of Triumph Motorcycles Ltd, and so briefed a design team to build a motorcycle around a distinctive triple-cylinder engine. The Benelli Tornado Tre was devised with the engine purposely sited quite far forward in order help keep the front wheel planted under acceleration. This left little room for the radiator which had to be sited under the seat creating a high ‘hands down/bum-up’ riding position which was actually colloquially Italian. This design however restricted air-flow to the radiator which was overcome by siting twin yellow cooling fans under the seat, a distinguished design that became instantly recognisable as a Benelli from the rearward view. The launch Tornado Tre, the “Biposto”, was quickly followed by 150 units of the Tornado ‘Novocento’ 900 LE built to homologate a suitable base model for the Superbike World Championship and as such is a very collectable special bike.

HISTORY FILE
The 1980 Maxi 2 was the final incarnation of the model before production ceased in 1981, 12 years after the Alec Issigonis design was first introduced in 1969. This very late 1981 model was supplied new by British Leyland dealer, Kennings Ltd of Colchester, on the 1st September 1981 and has covered just 9,989 miles from new! The first keeper Mr Norman Roe of Colchester, a registered Disabled driver, owned the car until 1998 covering just 5,568 miles in that time. Ownership then transferred to good friend and neighbour, Carol Thompson who put the car on the road after an extended period of storage before herself placing the car in storage with continual SORN acknowledgements from 2004 until 2012. A letter from the Secretary of the Austin Maxi Owners Club to Mr Thompson confirms this car as being only a handful of automatic Maxi 2 being produced. The vehicle was then sold to an Austin enthusiast who sold the car in February 2020. An Agreed Valuation of £6,500 has been issued.

The original Austin service booklet contains eight stamped entries with the most recent being a major service including the Hydragas system at a cost of £868.90 in June 2020 and at 8,772 miles. Absolutely all handbooks, guides and dealership literature are present along with two original sets of keys with Kennings fobs and a 1980 Maxi 2 sales brochure. Even the Kennings Leycare service card still hangs from the rear-view mirror! A separate and neatly organised file of invoices illustrates expenses. An unrepeatable opportunity to buy surely one of the best examples of British Leyland motoring history.
