The often wear-prone driver’s outer seat bolsters are in fantastic condition. The door cards, headlining and trim sections are superbly preserved and the deep pile grey carpeting is very clean and retains its fullness. An unspoilt pin-straight parcel shelf will delight those seeking the factory standard experience. A classic Capri interior, exactly as Ford intended.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The Capri 2.8 Injection was the first offering of the new Special Vehicle Engineering (SVE) operation that had recently been set up in Dunton, Essex. SVE added a Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection system, an oil/water heat exchanger, viscous coupled fan and an improved radiator making 158 BHP and capable of 130mph and 0-60mph in 7.9 seconds. The fantastic engine bay is standard with factory build plates and stickers displayed, even down to genuine Motorcraft radiator. The 5-speed gearbox is direct and progression through the range is effortless. Complete with the intoxicating exhaust note, this Capri is guaranteed to set the pulse racing!
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The factory 7-spoke alloy wheels are pristine with Ford badged centre caps. Five matching branded tyres in the correct size 205/60 R13 retain masses of tread. The immaculate luggage area has build stickers to the boot floor and houses the fifth alloy spare wheel still shod in the factory Goodyear tyre alongside the original jack and brace. The meticulous maintenance enjoyed by the car extends to the hydraulic dual-line servo-assisted brakes with ventilated front discs unique on the 2.8 Special which stop the car quickly and in a straight line.
HISTORY FILE
A car boasting just two owners from new, 64,577 miles and the most incredible history file. Built in November 1986 at the Cologne Plant in Germany, this 2.8 Injection Special was registered new on 25th February 1987 by Ford Main Dealer, Currie Motors London Ltd. Purchased new by a Mr Butler, the car became an instant ‘pride of joy’ affair and a detailed letter in the history file speaks of his family’s love for the car including trips in it to Austria and the South of France. Mr Butler goes on to recall that in 1989 the cars interior and wheels were stolen when the one and only time he forgot to lock the car in the garage. He was awoken in the early hours by the local constabulary to tell him of the missing items. The car was then taken to the supplying dealer, Currie Motors for repair work to be undertaken where Mr Butler learned that on the same night a C-registration Capri had also suffered at the hands of the thieves but had been written off by the insurance company due to being older and of higher mileage. A comprehensive invoice from Currie Motors dated October 1989 totals £4,247.29 in repairs and understandably there is a further Currie Motors invoice where Mr Butler ordered a Cobra Ultrasonic alarm! The car then became the family’s second car and was used only for holidays and weekends until eventually in 2005 the difficult decision to sell the Capri was made.
Mr O’Neill purchased the car in May 2005 and became the second and only other keeper who was fortunate enough to have a letter from the original owner giving him a potted history of the car since it was new. The colossal history file is simply amazing and consists of two huge folders with all paperwork in chronological order from new. All Ford Main Dealer and specialist service invoices have been kept dating back to the first service in December 1987 when the car was 10 months old. There is also every single MOT certificate with checklist every year without exception right back to the very first in 1990! Two separate diaries are highly detailed, one for servicing and one for routine maintenance and there is even every tax disc from 1990 to 2014 when they were discontinued. The most recent service was carried out at 64,167 miles. The original book pack contains all handbooks, operating guides and service book containing all the stamped entries as well a 3 sets of keys and an original sales brochure for the February 1987 Ford Range.
A cosseted and beautifully presented example of this British motoring legend.
