EXTERIOR
This virtually extinct special edition Crusader Estate Car is one of the final incarnations of Ford’s iconic Cortina MkV, sometimes known as the Cortina 80 being the facelift version of the MKIV. Finished in factory original Polar Grey, (Code E2), the paint has a fabulous shine with the smart twin pinstripe running the whole length of the car and bonnet adding a touch of distinction. Scrutiny will reveal honest touched-in paint imperfections and age-related defects and marks such as a rub mark to the plastic front bumper, all left to uphold factory originality and preferred over painted cars. Standard Crusader features such as the bright drip rail, belt moulding, door handles and locks have a mirror finish and supplying dealer branded number plates and rear screen sticker are fitted. Genuine Ford lenses are crystal bright and all glass is clear. The underside and wheel arch apertures are incredibly clean and factory original with no repairs, thanks to garage storage and the low 18,766 miles covered. Practical classic Ford motoring at its best!
INTERIOR
A well-appointed Ford interior, unique, refined and immensely comfortable. The two-tone fabric seats consisting of dark Durham with light Crushed Velour seat centre inserts, (Code T4), are very clean and match the colour keyed thick pile carpeting normally reserved for Ghia models. Genuine Ford rubber mats have been fitted from new. Carpeted lower sections on the doors raise to a light crushed velour topped by luxury wood veneer door cappings adding opulence to the impressive livery. Incredibly, the plastic film to the drivers door card remains, such was the protective nature of the husband and wife owners until 2022. With such low mileage covered, all switchgear and functions operate exactly as intended and the dashboard and wood effect facia are perfect. The four-spoke steering wheel displays prominent veins and the pedal rubbers are virtually unworn. The large estate boot area is remarkably clean for such heavily utilised areas with the carpeting, plastic side trim and even the headlining in excellent condition. The Ford jack and wheel brace are both present.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Ford’s robust and trustworthy 1600 OHC Pinto engine with single variable venturi carburettor has a power output of 73bhp, a top speed of 93mph and a 0-60 time of 13 seconds. The four speed all synchromesh manual gearbox feels light with a positive clutch action and relaxed motoring is effortless.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Sports road wheels are factory perfect still with bright embellishers with one slightly marked. Fitted new in December 2024 are four Uniroyal Rain Expert 3 tyres measuring 185/80R. Hydraulic dual line brakes with vacuum servo assistance have disc brakes upfront and 8 in rear drums and do a fine job of stopping this Estate Car.
