EXTERIOR
This incredible MGF is finished in stunning factory optional Platinum Silver, (Code MNX), and boasts a bright shine from garaged storage and a very low 12,591 miles covered. The paintwork is in beautiful order with no panel damage whatsoever and two light touched in markings to the front edge of the bonnet and o/s/r panel. The original woven acrylic fabric hood is as new and the plastic screen completely clear with no crease marks whatsoever. The rear tonneau and optional wind deflector are present and immaculate. Being an early example, the car is fitted with orange indicator lenses. All trim, light clusters and badges are pristine. This example will satisfy and MG enthusiast and is one of the best surviving examples now becoming harder to find.
INTERIOR
Specified with luxurious and cost optional Black leather, (Code PUU), the interior of this cossetted example is as new. The cut pile carpets have tailored MG velour mats covering them and the ivory-coloured dials of the instrument binnacle with the MG logos recall traditional MG design cues and were only fitted to the early cars. Being the range topping performance 1.8i VVC model the knowledgeable will note the red line at 7250 rpm on the tachometer. Both front and rear luggage areas are surprisingly spacious and spotless with the front housing an unused Goodyear spare wheel and jack and even shows all factory PDI paint dabs! MG museum quality in all respects.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The desirable four-cylinder 1796cc VVC, (Variable Valve Control), engine produces 143bhp enabling a top speed of 130mph and 0-60 in just 7.0 seconds. The light weight body, mid-mounted engine and rear wheel drive configuration possesses all the correct sports car credentials to ensure optimum driver delight. A documented cambelt and water pump change was carried out in February 2019 at which time stainless steel coolant pipes front to rear were fitted as a precaution. The short throw sports ratio five speed gearbox completes the package.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The original and unrestored 15inch VVC style alloy wheels with the MG logo are in pristine condition with no damage whatsoever. Brand new matching Toyo Proxes tyres of size 185/55 R15 tyres up front and 205/50 R15 were fitted in 2018. Ventilated front discs and solid rear discs with electronic anti-lock braking fitted as standard on the MGF 1.8i VVC offer positive straight-line stopping power.
HISTORY FILE
Registered new on the 5th August 1998 by MG Rover Main Dealer, Epsom Motor Group, this desirable top of the range VVC performance model has covered just 12,591 miles from new. A new car order form and subsequent sales invoice in the history file confirms the price new of £21,826.29 and is made out to the first owner, Mr B Russell. Being the conscientious type, he paid £465 extra for the extended warranty. Wonderful documentation from the time of sale is included such as the ‘Please Do Not Touch’ sign placed in the car by the dealer prior to collection! In 2014 the car was purchased by well-known classic MGB Racer, the late Barry ‘Sideways’ Sidery Smith, who was a long-time member and stalwart of the MG Car Club (MGCC) and most famous for his racing since 1959. Upon Mr Smith’s passing, the car was purchased by hugely knowledgeable MGCC member, Mr Terence Clark, where it sat garaged alongside his stunning MGA Coupe.
All handbooks, guides and dealership point of sale literature is in the MG leather folder along with the service book displaying nine stamped entries. The most recent service was in November 2018 and in February 2019 the cambelt and water pump were renewed at which time stainless steel coolant pipes were fitted as a precaution. Two sets of MG keys and remotes with code tags and dealer fobs are present. Completing the history file is a comprehensive folder of previous MOT certificates and service invoices to leave in no uncertainty that this is a cherished example.
