EXTERIOR
Finished in striking and optional Azure Metallic, (Code B20), this exceptional and clearly pampered example looks truly magnificent. Strictly garaged by the one and only owner from new and dry use only for just 4,757 miles, this quickly becomes apparent when even the fragile underside green jacking stickers are still attached! The bright green epoxy resin used to bond the aluminium at factory is still bright and the V.I.N. stamped in the chassis to the offside rear wheel arch area is clearly visible. The factory fitted windscreen is beginning to whiten at the lower corners and one headlight cluster has slight lifting to the inner bowl, cosmetic observations only. Wheel arch apertures and the flat underside to aid aerodynamics are very clean. The Black material hood and simple roof apparatus is perfect and the hex key removal tool is correctly housed behind the driver’s seat. An impeccably preserved Lotus Elise Series 1.
INTERIOR
Engineering excellence is built into the interior with the aim to save weight and provide ultimate driver focused enjoyment. The optional Tan Leather sports seats are in pristine condition and the unique Lotus/Nardi steering wheel is unmarked with natural surface veins clearly defined. The standard dash proudly displays the ‘Elise’ logo and the crystal-clear STACK instrumentation functions correctly providing at-a-glance information. The wide sills are protected by a leather/cloth pad with some minor markings visible, easily made with even the first entry/exit into the car! The doors remain open thanks to undamaged door retaining plates and the windows wind up and down smoothly. An interior Colin Chapman would be proud of.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Entirely standard and despite the low mileage the car has benefited from regular Lotus main dealer and specialist servicing, with 12 stamped entries in the service book the most recent by main dealer, Leven Lotus of Edinburgh, in June 2018 at 4,714 miles. The four cylinder in line 16 valve engine with aluminium engine block and cylinder head displaces 1796cc to produce 118bhp at 5500rpm and 165Nm torque at 3000rpm. Lightweight construction, rear wheel drive and mid-mounted engine, this ticks the core race car credentials and the driving experience is a must for any petrolhead. The clean engine bay and front compartment display a fully intact heat insulation panel, factory identification sticker, PDI markings and labels. The 5-speed close ratio gearbox with short throw is precise and direct.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Unique to Lotus are the 5 twin spoke light alloy wheels which are unmarked except for a light chip to one rear wheel. The Lotus centre badges are pristine and those with a keen eye for originality will note the collector pleasing factory fitted Pirelli PZero tyres still showing excellent tread. Cast iron 282mm ventilated discs with unique Lotus/AP Racing opposed piston front calipers stop the car safely and quickly.
HISTORY FILE
A car with an interesting and heart-warming history! The first and only owner, Mr Pier Sinforiani, paid the impressive sum of £0.00 for the car having won first prize in a Daily Record newspaper competition in 1998. Supplied direct from Lotus Cars Ltd Service Department, the car was registered new on 3rd March 1998 and the original vehicle checklist and despatch record and somewhat irrelevant (in this instance) price list is held in the history file! Mr Sinforiani’s amazing fortunate luck came at a wonderful moment just as he retired, ready for him to enjoy the car socially in dry conditions only. The car was strictly garaged at all times and now well into his 80’s, the decision to part with his prized Lotus has been carefully decided. Despite the very low mileage of just 4,757 miles, there are 12 stamped entries in the service booklet with the most recent by main dealer, Leven Lotus of Edinburgh, in June 2018 at 4,714 miles. The corresponding Leven Lotus service is held in the history file along with previous MOT certificates and other invoices. A documented and stamped timing belt change has been carried out at 4,514 miles and is within time. The Elise document wallet holds all handbooks, factory alarm installation certificate and point of sale literature as well as the important factory build sticker and an unused tax disc holder. Completing the history file is an original sales brochure and both keys supplied with the car when new.
One owner and exceptionally low mileage, this Elise is for the demanding connoisseur seeking one of Hethel’s finest, both in condition and credentials.
