EXTERIOR
This classic Mercedes-Benz Sport Leicht (SL) is finished in factory original Pastel Beige (colour code 684) which boasts a magnificent finish and show winning shine. The instantly recognisable lines of the R107 series are elegant yet subtle and this example is surely one of the best there is, commersurate with the incredibly low mileage and cosseted existence this superb car has enjoyed. An absence of excess underside protection enables inspection to reveal factory underseal and stickers still affixed to the exhaust system! The Black hood (code 740) is clean and free from rips or tears, as are the side and rear hood windows. The original colour coded hard top with supplying dealer Bradshaw Webb sticker remains with the car and is perfect. All the chrome has a mirror finish and trim sections and rubbers are virtually as new. An exceptional vehicle from an era when the name Mercedes Benz stood for exemplary build quality and engineering prowess.
INTERIOR
Large wide-opening doors give convenient access to a simply outstanding interior, one which truly deserves the often misused term of ‘time warp’. The spacious interior is tastefully upholstered in full black leather (code 031) with matching colour scheme carpets. The seats are in pristine order with no discolouration or cracking and the deep pile carpeting throughout has been protected by original fit Mercedes-Benz over-mats. The wood veneer is preserved and the fascia is perfect. All the gauges, controls and electrics operate exactly as they should, as does the factory optional Blaupunkt Cambridge M23 stereo cassette. The original jack, first aid kit and even the dealer supplied Mercedes valet kit and wheel changing guide are stored alongside the spare wheel! The boot area has factory build stickers present. The interior of this super low mileage example is essentially flawless and has been preserved in A1 condition. A comfortable refined and ergonomically designed environment.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The light alloy V8 engine with fuel injection and transistorised ignition produces 215bhp at 5500rpm to achieve a top speed of 133mph whilst offering extraordinary reliability. The engine bay is spotless and retains all manufacturer stickers, plates and panel stampings. The factory wax can be seen on components revealing the originality of this car impossible to replicate. This gloriously smooth and powerful engine it is mated to the four-speed torque convertor automatic transmission which is seamless in operation. An altogether flawless and assuring driving experience and a real must for any motoring enthusiast.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The original wheels remain fitted with the colour coded and chromium plated 12 hole trims which are pristine. The factory fitted Michelin XDX 205/70 VR14 tyres are fitted to all five wheels and retain excellent tread all round. Dual-circuit servo assisted brakes with discs to all four wheels are further enhanced by the optional anti-lock braking system to offer powerful stopping capabilities.
HISTORY FILE
Registered new on the 26th May 1982 by Mercedes Main Dealers Bradshaw Webb (Chelsea) Ltd, this amazing example has covered a mere 18,971 miles with just three traceable keepers. The history file is simply incredible starting with the original Mercedes plastic wallet housing the service book, handbook and absolutely all dealership literature including the factory build card. Furthermore, a huge collection of main dealer and specialist invoices and receipts portray this cars cosseted existence and every MOT certificate from three years old serves to verify the mileage.
Much of the documented maintenance is from renowned UK specialists, The SL Shop, and a used car sales invoice confirms the car was sold by them to the previous keeper for £35,200 in 2014. Such devotion by the previous keepers to preserve all aspects of this car, even the majority of previous tax discs and an unused main dealer disc holder are within the history file.
Appealing to any serious collector wanting one of the very best preserved examples in existence, this 380SL will delight on every conceivable level.
