EXTERIOR
This range topping for luxury 1300 Ghia example is truly exceptional in its originality and preserved condition. Finished in Ford Cordoba Beige (code PK0) the paintwork is remarkable with a bright polished shine and impressive finish. Only faint evidence of remedial paintwork carried out to the front offside wing is worthy of mention against the otherwise factory finish. All original panels are straight and display uniform gaps. There is absolutely no corrosion to the body and the underside is structurally perfect with evidence of factory underseal, commensurate with a low mileage garaged example. Only very minor markings to the paintwork can be seen upon close scrutiny, and a small ding to the boot lid barely noticeable. The bright trim sections and badging is fully intact and remains in excellent order aside from a small area of damage to the rubber of the front offside bumper corner. The supplying Ford dealer number plates, rear screen sticker and tax disc holder remain fitted. A truly cossetted example of this classic Ford preserved just as the manufacturer intended.
INTERIOR
A near perfect interior to absolutely delight the originality seeking enthusiast. The original Verona crushed velour upholstery in Tan (code B9) is very clean and has been preserved impeccably with no wear to the coverings. Only a tiny burn to the driver’s seat and rear bench prevent the term perfect being used to describe the overall cabin space. The matching cut pile carpeting and vinyl door cards with loop pile carpeted lower sections are pristine and the headlining is fully intact. The dashboard displays no cracks whatsoever and houses fully functional switchgear, controls and gauges as well as the factory fitted push button radio. The soft feel steering wheel feels as new with the veins still prominent. The boot area houses all the tools and even the factory stickers on the boot lid! A superb rare surviving classic Escort interior remaining true to the Ford product, complete with nostalgic period scent!
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Refreshingly simple, this model is fitted with the 1300 OHV engine with twin venturi carburettor. A power output of 70bhp at 5500rpm allows a top speed of 95mph and 0-60 in 14.1 seconds. The engine bay is wonderfully unmolested with blue PDI dots on the strut tops and factory plates visible. The wing top chassis stamp remains unpainted, just as it should be! The four speed all synchromesh gearbox is light, exact and effortless reflective of the incredible low mileage.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Standard 13” sports road wheels are unrestored with the black infills and stamped part numbers prominent. All four bright embellishers as fitted to the Ghia models remain and have light scratches, more so to the front items. Five 155/80 R13 tyres have masses of tread remaining including the factory Goodyear tyre fitted to the spare wheel. Hydraulic dual line brakes incorporating front discs and rear drums operate well.
HISTORY FILE
Registered new on 26th November 1979 by Ford Main Dealer Moores Weybridge Limited, this wonderful Escort has had just two keepers from new, father and son! First keeper Mr Stanley Patten purchased the vehicle upon retirement and cherished it as his pride and joy until passing. Bequeathed to his son Richard in the will, the vehicle has continued to be cherished and strictly garage stored whilst enjoying minimal use, resulting in the amazing low mileage of just 29,500. Richard transferred the vehicle into his name on the 26th November 2001, its exact 22nd anniversary! The original Moores vinyl wallet contains all documentation from the new car handover, including the service booklet, handbooks and operating guides. Even the salesman’s business card, owner certificate and unused Cyalume lightstick remain! The history file further consists of previous MOT certificates to help support the low mileage as well as previous registration documents.
Holding immense appeal for any enthusiast or collector wanting one of the most original, unmolested and truly treasured Mk2 Escorts remaining. A rare opportunity.
