EXTERIOR
Finished in Sunbeam Red the appearance of this successful and iconic motorcycle can only be described as amazing. Launched in 1981 this is the AR50-C10 variant representing the final version of the Roadrace model with unique decals. Having never been restored or refurbished this example represents a unique survivor and displays minor markings which certainly do not offend. The black full cradle frame and racetrack proven Uni-Trak rear suspension shows little road debris markings due to the low miles covered. The plastics and decals are unmarked and all the switches, lights and controls work perfectly. The seat remains in original red material which is remarkably clean thanks to indoor storage. Very special.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The robust air-cooled 2-stroke engine has a 49cc displacement with an automatic superlube oil injection to help ensure maximum convenience and reliability. Proven reed-valve induction combined with electronic CD Ignition (CDI) delivers the kind of power that has enthralled a generation of first time young riders. Being completely standard with the correct factory AR50 exhaust for the UK market the maximum power is 2,1 kW at 4.500 rpm and a maximum torque at 4,5 Nm at 4.000 rpm given a restricted 35mph top speed. The 5-speed close-ratio gearbox operates correctly with the clutch lever still retracting the side-stand.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The AR50 is fitted with stylish and distinctive cast-alloy red wheels and are presented in fabulous condition. Original factory tyres are still fitted being the Dunlop Gold Seal 2.5-18 front and Dunlop K698 2.75-18 rear. These tyres still have new pimples but if the bike is to be put into regular use a change is recommended. Hydraulic disc front brake and dustproof/waterproof rear drum brake combine to provide confident, controlled braking in all weather conditions.
HISTORY FILE
Quite possibly one of the final AR50-C10 models to be registered in the UK being a December 1998 ‘S’ prefix, this successful machine is a rare survivor having only had three former mature keepers. With a mileage of just 2,403 covered predominately in the first two years of the bikes life before residing in a residential dwelling carefully stored and unused. An iconic, unmolested factory standard legend.
