Full Description

SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

A charmingly frugal Motobécane Mobylette AV50 in superb original order.

EQUIPMENT
Luxur headlamp, rear lamp, push button horn, front and rear suspension, colour coded mudguards, crank faring, rear luggage holder, wide single seat, Huret speedometer, odometer, chrome wire wheels.

EXTERIOR
The Mobylette affectionately known as ‘Moby’ was made by the French manufacturer Motobécane with production lasting from 1949 to 1997.  This 1972 AV50 model is wonderfully preserved in original condition having been kept by the original owner until 2014!  The factory Bleue (light blue) paintwork is remarkably good with faint age related markings which have been left untreated in order to uphold originality.  The decals and badges have remained intact and exactly as the maker intended.  The pristine wide seat is surprisingly comfortable.  Virtually impossible to replace features such as the correct ‘M’ stamped pedals and BP Zoom filler cap remain fitted.  The lights, gauge and push button horn all work perfectly.  Guaranteed to raise a smile!

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The original 2-stroke 49cc engine still features the correct Gurtner carburettor and single speed transmission.  All mechanicals are spotlessly clean and the engine number tag and factory exhaust stampings are clear to see.  A quick peddle and this delightful Mobylette pops into life ready for simplistic and thrifty motoring.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The bright chrome wire wheel rims are free from damage and show only faint ageing whilst all spokes are fully intact.  Period 2¼ x 17 tyres have good tread remaining.  The cable operated drum brakes work affectively but fall short of modern standards.

HISTORY FILE
Registered new on the 4th September 1972, this fantastic example was purchased new by Mr John Simpson who incredibly kept it for almost 42 years until his passing.  Just one further keeper since, Mr Sturge, couldn’t resist the opportunity to purchase the moped having rode one as a teenager.

This once hugely successful motorcycle has largely disappeared from the roads of Europe, but not before enjoying iconic status particularly in its native France.  This unmolested example is preserved and fully operational ready for the next owner to enjoy.

HPI Clear.
