EXTERIOR
This wonderful Polo 1.4CL has covered just 22,608 miles in the ownership of Mother and Son from new. Finished factory optional Satin Silver Metallic, (Code X1), the original panels are pin straight and the paint finish boasts a bright uniform shine throughout. The car has been garaged and truly cherished throughout and the underside is in excellent untouched condition. Meticulous close scrutiny reveals little more than touched in frontal stone chips and all trim sections are virtually as new with only some very light marks where the offside door rubbing strip has served its purpose. An exceptional example throughout and commensurate with the very low mileage credentials.
INTERIOR
The ‘Granite’ Velvet Black upholstery, (Code EK), is excellent with no visible wear or markings to the seats and matching door cards. The interior plastics, fascia and trim are very good and items such as the steering wheel and gear knob display prominent veins found only on low mileage cars. All equipment and controls operate perfectly and the switchgear has a satisfying quality feel. The carpets have been protected from new by dealership optional tailored rubber mats. An interior that is difficult to distinguish from a 1998 showroom example!
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The original 1390cc four-cylinder petrol engine develops 60bhp and 116Nm of torque to achieve a respectable top speed of 100mph and 0-62mph in 14.9 seconds. Far quieter and effortless acceleration and cruising capabilities are achieved over the smaller engine models and the 5-speed manual transmission feel tight and precise. The last service was carried out in 2019 at 19,059 miles and a cambelt change done in August 2020. The engine bay is very clean and original features such as factory stickers, plates and panel stamps remain untouched.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
‘Indianapolis’ 6J x 14 alloy wheels were specified as a factory option and are in superb order with no kerb damage whatsoever. Matching branded 185/55 R14 tyres show ample tread. The immaculate boot area houses an unused space saver spare wheel along with the original jack and wheel brace. The factory build options sticker remains attached to the boot floor. Diagonally split dual circuits brakes with servo assistance and front discs operate perfectly and offer steady straight-line stopping power.
HISTORY FILE
A wonderful history file befits an equally special car. Registered new on the 28th August 1998 by Volkswagen Main Dealer, Douglas Stewart Ltd of Waltham Cross, the car was ordered by Mrs Grace Fowle. The transaction began with Mrs Fowle making pre-order comparison notes on the back of a 1998 Model Year Polo sales brochure, the exact one of which still remains in the history file! Also kept is the original order form and sales invoice made out to Mrs Fowle illustrating the price paid of £10,500 including factory optional extras. Following taking delivery of the car there are hand written letters from the supplying dealer showing appreciation of a thank you card sent by Mrs Fowle for the bunch of flowers gifted with the car. The letter even refers to a game of golf planned by Mrs Fowle showing the very personal attention she had clearly received from her Volkswagen dealer! Purchased in retirement and used sparingly, the car was strictly garaged when not in use and in 2018 upon his Mother’s passing the car was registered to Mr John Fowle who continued to care for the car alongside his Jaguar E-Type and Porsche 930 Turbo!
Absolutely all handbooks, manuals and dealership point of sale literature is included in the leather document wallet along with the service book. There are two Volkswagen keys plus the master blade. A further large history folder contains service invoices and all MOT certificates dating back to the very first in 2001 to fully verify the genuine low mileage. Personal inspection and drive of this example will not fail to impress and the car is a testament to the dedicated ownership bestowed upon it.
