EXTERIOR
This charming little Mini City E is finished in Primula, (Code FMP), a very rare colour that suits this cute and humble basic model perfectly. The paintwork looks superb and boasts a bright uniform finish. Close scrutiny will detect signs of remedial paintwork and repairs having been carried out over the years to uphold the smart appearance and light markings are visible. All City and E decals remain correctly fitted and the Nimbus Grey trim sections are in good order. Altogether a very presentable and useable classic Mini.
INTERIOR
Remaining exactly as Austin intended and very true to the original Mini mantra of basic frugal motoring for the masses, this wonderfully sparse interior is in excellent order owing to the low 36,231 miles covered. The original Sawtooth fabric seats with vinyl edges in Bitter Chocolate colour scheme, (Code CNC), are very well preserved with no significant wear or damage other than two small nicks to the rear seat back bench. The upholstery is very clean and free from staining and discoloration and the interior trim is superb. All functions and controls operate including the dealer fitted Sparkmobile radio/cassette. The headlining is clean and damage free. Reminiscent of a far simpler and enjoyable motoring era, this nostalgic Mini simply cannot fail to put a smile on your face!
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Needing little introduction, the engine is the 4-cylinder transverse OHV 998cc A+ unit developing a lively 40bhp to achieve 0-60mph in 17.9 seconds and a top speed of 80mph. The engine pulls strongly and quietly and ultra-simplicity coupled with excellent parts availability ensures low running costs and excellent reliability, the ethos of every Mini made! Identification and information plates and engine stickers are intact and the engine block remains the correct yellow to denote 998cc in size. The four speed all synchromesh gearbox is smooth and light with precise gear changes accomplished effortlessly. Huge fun that can only be found with a classic Mini!
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Factory correct, the original 12in steel wheels wear the correct stylish moulded hub covers which are pristine. The 145/70 R12 tyres have very good tread remaining including the spare which is housed in the neat boot area alongside the jack and brace. The well-maintained braking system with front discs and rear drums operate exactly as they should for straight line braking.
HISTORY FILE
Registered new on 7th April 1986, this wonderful Mini City E has covered 36,231 miles from new in the hands of just three former keepers. At the time this example was sold, the only standard models were the City E and the Mayfair as well as various special editions. There are very few surviving City E’s and this charming Primula colour is simply wonderful. The previous owner, Mr David McGill, was a member of the British Mini Club and ensured the car was well maintained for regular leisure trips to Scotland from his home in Newcastle upon Tyne. Having purchased the car in June 2017, Mr McGill undertook a major service including a brand-new radiator with parts and invoices from Mini specialists in the history file. Upon purchasing the car from Mr McGill, KGF Classic Cars Operations Manager, Steve, travelled to Newcastle by train and enjoyed a faultless drive back to Peterborough with a huge smile on his face!
This Mini is perfect for anyone wanting a very good useable car that is ideal for attending local shows and fun classic car enjoyment.
