SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

A rare matching numbers AVO factory Black Mk1 Ford Escort RS2000.

EQUIPMENT
Advanced Vehicle Operations (AVO) Type 49 heavy duty body, front quarter bumpers, strengthened chassis rails, strengthened flitch plates, reinforced front suspension strut top mounting plates, rear radius rods, safety glass, anti-burst locks, black painted aluminium grille, quartz iodine headlamps, six pod sports binnacle, leather rimmed sports steering wheel, heater fan, two speed wipers, courtesy light, washable plastic headlining, push-round ashtray, steering lock, cigarette lighter, hazard warning flashers. RS Accessories; 4 Oscar driving lamps, RS wiper aero-foil, centre console, clock and wood trim, Ford push-button radio, Rallye Sport alloy wheels.

EXTERIOR
Prepare for lots of attention as this exhilarating RS2000 stands proud in its factory correct and special order only Black paint work, (Code Y). The glossy shine is stunning. The flared front wheel arches and rolled rear arches, to accommodate the wide sports road wheels, are set off beautifully by the contrasting colour decal scheme. Original factory fitted items like the 7” diameter round sealed beam Cibe IODE H4 headlights and RS optional working Oscar high mounted driving lamps are synonymous with Group 2 Rally events and the Roger Clark Escort championship success. Detailed items remain fitted such as the RS wiper aerofoil and correct FoMoCo rear lights and reversing lamps. A black painted underside is very clean and allows perfect inspection and will please those enjoying the show scene.

INTERIOR
Body hugging, reclining and luxurious RS seats trimmed in Black fabric, (Code A1), are immaculate in appearance and along with the rest of the interior, spotless. Fully equipped with an immaculate wooden dash and centre console, all sports instrumentation functions including the correct 130mph and 7000rpm speedometer and tachometer but the Motorola radio and Kienzie clock are inoperative. The boot area is factory specification and still retains the regular AVO Escort boot floor, complete with studs for an underbody stone deflector, (never fitted to an RS2000), and black plastic rear light protectors. Superb in all respects.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Rarely does such a sporting legend still have its original engine fitted but this matching numbers example has been cherished throughout the decades with the 2.0 Ford ‘Pinto’ unit performing faultlessly. With a quoted 100bhp, a top speed of 110mph and 0-60mph in 9 seconds is despatched with a bark through the Janspeed exhaust system sounding glorious. Short snappy gear changes and real world use is provided by a Ford Type-9 five speed gearbox which is an absolute delight to use.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The undamaged and optional Rallye Sport alloy wheels measuring 5.5×13 inch are all correctly date stamped and have minor blemishes to the polished sections. Genuine RS centre caps are fitted and the spokes are finished in the factory dark grey. 175/70 R13 Firestone tyres are fitted to all four corners and the direct acting vacuum servo assistance dual-line braking system works effectively.

HISTORY FILE
Built at Fords Advanced Vehicle Operations factory in Aveley in July 1974 this vehicle is one of 3,759 genuine AVO RS2000’s built for the RHD market. Registered with the AVO Club as a genuine factory Black example with only a tiny fraction having been produced in this non-standard colour, the club is only aware of a handful still in existence. Fully traceable history from date of registration on the 20th September 1974 up to the present, this car has only had seven former keepers. Such is the condition and provenance of this rare RS2000 that is has been magazine featured twice with a six page spread in Retro Ford in 2013. Old invoices make fascinating reading of the care lavished on this car and a CD containing hundreds of photos is included of the detailed restoration in 2009. Recent expenditure by the current fastidious owner totalling thousands of pounds with CWC Restorations in Tyne and Wear for upkeep and servicing means this car is ready for the show season and the next Blue Oval Ford fan wanting what must be one of the rarest Mk1 Ford Escort RS2000’s.
