EXTERIOR
The superb, rugged Type 25 Transporter pick-up offers the ultimate combination of utilitarian capabilities with classic Volkswagen kudos and appeal.  With added rarity value in the form of the Double-Cab body, this astonishing example is absolutely original, unrestored and unmolested.  The factory coating of Bamboo yellow has been incredibly well preserved for a used commercial vehicle.  A shiny, rich depth of colour owes credit to the amazing low mileage, cosseted ownership and Volkswagen’s comprehensive seven stage paint procedure.  The underside was factory treated to a five stage manufacturing process and thus is structurally perfect, as are the original body panels.  Inherent with the vehicles used workhorse nature, paintwork and body imperfections are visible and have been left untreated in order to proudly exhibit the original state.  There is a small dent to the front nearside corner.  The load bed bares markings of usage but is structurally undamaged and free from significant wear.  Onlookers will be pleased to note that all trim sections, badges, catches and even the tailgate footstep remain intact.  The correct data plate and factory build stickers underneath the driver’s seat and in the engine compartment further uphold the originality principles.  A sure delight for the avid Volkswagen and classic commercial vehicle enthusiast.

INTERIOR
Functional, serviceable and exactly as Volkswagen intended.  Previous keepers of this utility vehicle have resisted temptation to introduce luxury items and upgrade equipment leaving the sparse cabin space true to the vehicles purpose.  All the functions and controls that are fitted operate as if new.  The original Leatherette upholstery in Saiga (code QR) is remarkable clean with only very light crazing to the covering on the driver’s seat outer bolster and a small tear to the underside corner of the rear bench.  The matching door cards are spotless and the perforated headlining is completely intact but ever so slightly discoloured.  The washable rubber floor coverings are pristine having been protected from new by heavy duty tailored VW rubber mats.  Spacious capacity for six adults as well masses of rear storage and secure underside locker, the versatility for commercial and leisure usage is immense!

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The water cooled 1913cc petrol engine develops 60bhp at 3700rpm and 140Nm of torque at just 2200rpm.  A top speed of 73mph and 0-50 quoted in 19.1 seconds is adequate.  Having covered just 25,347 miles and enjoying enthusiast ownership, the performance is quiet and smooth and mechanical operation exceptional.  The 4 speed manual gearbox offers sturdy yet effortless changes.  Simple mechanics and a huge parts supply network make this a very capable daily classic.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Standard 6 J X 14 steel rims with bright replaced VW hubcaps all round are unrestored and display only faints markings to the rims.  Brand new 185 R14 Goodyear Cargo-Vectar tyres designed for vans are fitted.  Powerful servo assisted brakes stop the vehicle quickly and in a straight line.

HISTORY FILE
Supplied new on 11th April 1988 by Porsche Austria Gesellschaft m. b. H. & Co, the first and only Austrian keeper was a Maria Reinprecht who kept this example until October 2012!  UK based Just Westys came across this miraculously original and unmolested T25 Double-Cab whilst on the search for top quality Campervans, and knowing just how special the vehicle was had to bring it back with them!

All Volkswagen handbooks and guides are in the original V.A.G plastic wallet and two Austrian service booklets display a number of stamped entries up to April 2011.  Some further paperwork consists of Austrian invoices and UK MOT certificates.  An original sales brochure and sales supplement complete the history file for this very special example, guaranteed to attract appreciation from enthusiasts and collectors wanting the best on offer.

Volkswagen Beetle Last Edition 300/300

SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

The very last Last Edition VW Beetle. Number 300/300 with incredible history.

EQUIPMENT
Chrome bumpers with rubber inserts, chrome door mirror, running boards, two speed wipers, two-speed fresh air blower, handbrake warning light, heated rear window, hazard lights, interior lights, reversing lights, lockable glove box, front and rear ashtrays, coat hooks, map pocket, padded dashboard, twin sunvisors, grab handle, metal dashboard plaque.  Accessories: Beetle Bouncer Perspex stone shield.

MODEL HISTORY
In the autumn of 1977, Volkswagen made the momentous decision to stop European production of the Beetle. As a result, Volkswagen UK chose to mark the occasion by ordering 300 of its quota of ’78 model Beetles in Diamond Silver Metallic, this being a colour not previously available on a UK Beetle. It then distributed them in very small numbers among each of the various UK-based dealerships.  Each distributed with a dashboard plaque inscribed ‘This is one of the last Volkswagen Beetles to be produced for the United Kingdom.’  Our car is 300 of 300 and the very last of the Last Edition Beetles to roll out of the Emden plant for the UK market.  Last Edition Beetle No.1 is owned by Volkswagen and is registered VWW1.

EXTERIOR
Finished in unique Last Edition Diamond Silver metallic paint (Code L97A), this historically important example looks stunning.  All the factory panels are original along with lighting, trim and glass.  The chrome bumpers have a mirror finish with only the faintest pitting to the door handles. A period Beetle Bouncer perspex stone guard is affixed to the front bumper and can be removed with no damage.  The underside is factory original and there is minor bubbling to the N/S/F headlamp cowl and two small areas along the seam of the same wing.  In the summer of 2003 the vehicle had tree sap damage and remedial paint work was carried out under insurance by Jenkins & Pain of Whitfield.  This is a stunning car and quite simply, irreplaceable.

INTERIOR
The Marine Blue velour seats front and rear have, until recently, been protected by seat covers which are still with the car so have survived very well.  The rubber flooring has, again, been protected by carpeting and reveals the owners awareness of preservation and protection of such a historical important car.  A very functional without being ornate interior is well made and all switches, lighting and instrumentation are operational.  The unique Last Edition plaque inscribed 300/300 is still in the presentation case and has never been attached the glovebox.  Very special.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The air-cooled rear mounted engine produces 34bhp from its 1192cc displacement and operates with excellence thanks to meticulous main dealer servicing.  Engine number D1422283 is factory correct and the fully synchronised 4-speed gearbox works perfectly offering light and precise gear changes.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Pressed steel wheels are dressed in immaculate chrome half wheel covers and shod in factory original Firestone 155 R15T tubeless tyres.  The spare is unused and still has manufacture tyre stickers attached.  Dual circuit drums front and rear operate well offering adequate stopping power.

HISTORY FILE
Truly captivating and most fitting for such a historically important vehicle.  In 1978 Guy Sinden, a Volkswagen (GB) Director is photographed handing over the keys of the last new Beetle made for Britain to Colin W. Cudlipp, the Chief Executive of BEN – (Motor and Allied Trades Benevolent Fund).   Substantial offers to buy this collectable vehicle were rejected by Volkswagen in favour of raising money for this charity as a first prize in a raffle.  The handover photo is included in the history file as are the black metal display plates made by VW and as seen in this early photo.  The raffle was won by a Yeovil couple, Ernest and Jean Rogers, which according to a newspaper cutting at the time ‘came as a real surprise’ as it was the first prize they had ever won!  Hailed as the Beetle bought for £1 it was kept by the couple unused and in careful storage until 1986 when it was advertised for sale in the May ’86 Thoroughbred & Classic Car magazine, of which a copy is included in the history file.  Spotted by VW enthusiast, Graham Bradley, a detailed account of his purchase and ownership is beautifully published in the April 2004 VW Motoring Magazine to which a copy is included in the history file.  Kept in his procession for some 25 years averaging 1,000 miles per annum and serviced annually with oil changes every 500 miles as witnessed by the huge collection of main dealer invoices in the history file.  During his use carpet mats and seat covers were used to protect the originals and these are removed but included in the sale.  Previous MOT history from the first in 1986 leave no doubt to the miles covered and a collection of tax discs stuck in date order are also included.  Sold to the final custodian, Mr Jenkins, having now covered just 28,116 miles from new who considers the vehicle to important to use hence the regretful sale.

An incredible box file of history which comprises of magazine features, photos, invoices and emails from the Last Edition Registrar stating ‘this is the highest chassis number that we know of!’

The rich interior of this very rare Beetle offers unique blue special leather grained seating with plush corduroy insets. Matching thick, colour-coordinated carpeting and a rosewood dash are further luxury distinguishing features along with a leather grained steering wheel. The famous VW smell is still there. Opening the lockable glove box even reveals the VW pack of fuses as supplied when new and no radio has been fitted so the blanking plate is still in situ. The instruction sticker on the steering wheel is still intact. The driver’s seat base has a repair during its time in a Volkswagen Main Dealer. The under bonnet cardboard liner is simply remarkable. Time warp is a term used freely, but completely justified with this collectable unique vehicle

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The air-cooled rear mounted horizontally opposed engine produces 48bhp from its 1584cc displacement enabling a top speed of 84mph. La Grande Bug was one of the first Super Beetles to have electronic fuel injection fitted as standard enabling wonderfully smooth performance and 33mpg. The fully synchronized 4-speed gearbox works perfectly. Due to the low miles covered it would be advisable to re-commission the vehicle despite the mechanical wellbeing if the new owner plans to put the car into regular use.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
4.5J Lemmertz sport GT wheels are as new and show all the VW stampings which are crystal clear along with factory fitted wheel weights. All tyres are incredibly still the first Goodyear tubeless bias ply type in perfect order. Dual circuit drums front and rear will require an overhaul if regular use is intended.

HISTORY FILE
The story of this example begins in the Williams VW Dealership, Lancing, Michigan in the USA when proprietor, Mr Williams, took delivery of this limited edition La Grande Bug. Realising that this was something very special with amenities not customarily found in a Bug it was held back from sale to keep for his children to use when they went off to college. However, VW introduced newer models with better safety features so a Golf was the chosen mode of transport. Mr Williams kept the vehicle in one of his VW Showrooms all the way up until retirement in 2010 when a renowned UK VW collector, Mr Willcock, found out about it. Knowing that a 242-mile 1970’s VW Beetle is not something that comes up for sale too often, especially not one that is a limited edition like this, he jumped on it! Last sold by KGF Classic Cars in July 2014 we are delighted to offer this vehicle to market again.

A collection of magazine features, coveted Meguiars trophy from the Classic Motor Show appearance, and all importation/duty paid paperwork are included. The vehicle has never been registered. Original literature including handbooks and sales brochures are included.
