A time-honoured MG RV8 in splendid condition and just 15,285 miles

MODEL HISTORY
The MG RV8 was bought to fruition by Rover Special Projects team, a team of 30 planners, engineers and designers based at Gaydon, Rovers test track in Warwickshire. Headed by RSP Director, Steve Schlemmer, the project was called Adder in recognition of the Anglo-American Cobra of the 60s, their objective was to recreate the MGB as it would have been had it never left production. Launched at the British Motor Show in 1992, the MG RV8 marked the welcome return of the MG sports car and the famous octagonal badge. At a price of £26,500 when new just 1983 units were made of which 1581 were sold to Japan.

EQUIPMENT
Flared front and rear wings, moulded body coloured sills, laminated windscreen, halogen headlamps, analogue clock, voltmeter, intermittent wipe, twin horns, cigar lighter, lights-on buzzer, courtesy light delay, boot lamp, illuminated glovebox, remote boot release, rear tonneau, centre armrest, 3-speed heater fan.

EXTERIOR
An appealing, curvaceous, wasp-waisted style immediately recognisable to MG aficionados is finished in optional pearlescent Woodcote Green, (Code HPE) at a cost of £750 when new. The famous octagonal MG badging is unmarked and all chrome brightwork has a mirror finish. A born classic.

INTERIOR

A fine expression of MG traditional sporting appeal can be seen with a full set of VDO black-on-white working instruments and chrome interior door handles, roll top lid ashtray and handbrake release button. The correct Panasonic radio cassette player with the MG logo remains fitted. Beautifully traditional.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The 3.9 litre V8 is extremely flexible with large reserves of torque and 190bhp giving effortless midrange overtaking. 0-60mph is despatched in 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 135mph is quoted. The engine bay is spotlessly clean and factory original with all markings, plates and stickers present. The V8 burble through the twin exhaust pipe is intoxicating. The robust Land Rover built 77mm 5-speed gearbox changes with reassuring precision and a progressive light clutch action. Delightful.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Distinctive cast alloy 15x6J road wheels are unmarked and still retain the MG centre security caps. The Zender split rim bolts have no corrosion. Servo assisted ventilated front disc brakes with 4-piston callipers and rear drums do an impressive job of bringing the vehicle to a safe halt.

HISTORY FILE
The MG RV8 was always destined to become a classic with just 1983 units made reviving a golden history and celebrating thirty years after the birth of the legendary MGB. This pampered example spent six years with the only Japanese owner, Mr Akifumi Shimizu of Wakayama who purchased the car on the 21st September 1994. Upon the first sha-ken, (MOT), in 1997 the car had covered 4,448km and in December 1999 the car was purchased for export to the UK with 11,800km. At this point a brand new VDO in mph was installed and professionally fitted retaining the old unit for authenticity. Since arriving in the UK a further documented 7,785 miles have been covered with three former keepers and MG enthusiasts. A comprehensive collection of paperwork, old MOT certificates and point of sale material make fascinating reading. The previous keeper part exchanged this cherished vehicle with KGF Classic Cars in April 2014 whereupon the garage owners Father, Mr Fasulo, fell for the charm, immaculate condition and V8 burble and just had to have it! Now only available to make room for a classic Ferrari.

HISTORY FILE
Truly phenomenal and second to none. One of only 1,859 Home Market UK 1500 Roadsters produced this example has had a total of just five owners in 59 years and covered 77,229 miles. First registered on the 23rd April 1957 to Mr Francis Ware who sold the vehicle after one year to Kenneth George Roe, custodian for the next 23 years. As a well know figure in MG circles and having previously owned a TA and a TF he just had to have the new aerodynamic MGA and competed in various sprints and hill climbs. Although it was not primarily used as a concours car Mr Roe entered it various events all documented in the history file and noteworthy mentions are a second in class in the BARC Eastbourne Motor Rally Concours in 1959, ’Best Modern MG’ awards at the Brenwood Concours in the 1960’s and a pile of ‘First in Class’ awards at M.G.C.C Silverstone in the late 1960’s. There are a number of photos of the car in the late 50’s and early 60’s, one with the last ever Twin-Cam built and owned by Mike Ellman-Brown, a good friend of Mr Roe at the time. Letters between owners make fascinating reading and the current custodian of 18 years, Mr Parmenter, has chronically and fastidiously noted all works carried out in recognition of the unique provenance this vehicle processes and written helpful notes for the new owner. Also featured in the book by F.Wilson McComb in the History of the MG and Malcolm Green, the well-known MG historian and motoring journalist wrote an article about the car in the December 1999 MG Enthusiast magazine, all included. The car comes with a full set of manuals including the first edition operation manual and original hardback workshop manual in perfect condition. A very rare opportunity and special car.

The factory fitted 15inch eight-spoke style alloy wheels with the MG logo are in pristine condition surrounded by 185/55 R15 tyres up front and 205/50 R15 at the rear.  The spare wheel remains unused.  Ventilated front discs and solid rear discs offer positive stopping power.

HISTORY FILE
Registered new by MG Rover Main Agent, Horners Limited of Manchester on the 3rd August 2001 before Mrs Frary took ownership on the 21st September 2001.  Not prepared to wait for her favourite colour combination she purchased the dealers car for £14,338.  Being the conscientious type the original purchase invoice reveals an extra £199 paid for Supaguard paint protection.  Mrs Frary has been the only careful custodian since September 2001 keeping the car garaged, well maintained and for pleasure use only.  The low mileage of just 21,878 is warranted.  The first five service entries were back to the supplying dealer with independent servicing thereafter.  The owner held a Horners Gold Membership card due to loyalty.  All old tax discs have been kept and the original handbooks, service book and instruction pamphlets are contained in the black leather MG wallet.  A sales brochure from 2001 completes the history file and both sets of keys with the supplying dealer leather key fobs are included.

An unspoiled and prized MGF, wanting for nothing and ready for summer entertainment!
