MG XPower SV-R

SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

An exclusive MG XPower SV-R Supercar with traceable history and just 9,464 miles.

MODEL HISTORY
An indulgent ‘halo’ model intended to resurge the MG brand under MG Sport & Racing Limited. Peter Stevens, world renowned designer and aerodynamicist responsible for the McLaren F1 hypercar, led the team. With experts and suppliers stretching the globe from chassis structure in Italy, carbon fibre materials in the Isle of Wright, engine builders in Detroit and final finishing and trimming at Longbridge, the thousand-mile production line was a logistical and technical challenge. A total of just 82 cars were made, of which only 42 being the more powerful SV-R. Customers including Rowan Atkinson were keen to experience this MG Supercar before the company entered administration on the 12th April 2005. Chassis #128 is the only car finished in Grigio Titanium and cost £91,525 new.

EQUIPMENT
Gunmetal finish side air vents, front aerodynamic splitter, lateral rear air diffuser, large rear wing spoiler, green tinted glass, projector headlights, heated and folding door mirrors, electric seat height/recline adjustment, leather steering wheeI with height adjustment, integral roll cage, four-belt three-point harnesses with inertia reels and lock button, lights-on and door-open buzzer, push-button start, analogue clock, cup holders, remote boot and fuel release. Factory options; Metallic paint finish, all-leather Recaro seats, heated and ventilated seats, climate control air-conditioning, Becker DTM TrafficPro Sat Nav, CD autochanger, Infinity six speaker upgrade, footwell mats X2, warning triangle.

EXTERIOR
Astonishing, imposing and incredibly rare, the MG XPower SV supercar is a sheer sensory hyperdrive. Club records inform this is the only example finished in cost optional Grigio Titanium, (Code T1) and being the more powerful SV-R model, it has the enhanced aerodynamic package including the imposing rear wing and gunmetal side air vents. Unprecedented at the time, this carbon-bodied car is completely smooth with a weave-free gloss paint finish. The high-tensile steel chassis frame was crafted by Vaccari and Bosi in Modena Italy, the carbon fibre mat was made by Britain’s SP Group and constructed by Italy’s Belco Avia from 3,000 different pieces. The result, a complete shell weighing only 65kg and the entire vehicle having an unladen weight of just 1,500kg. In stark contrast and ridiculed as a result, are the Fiat Punto projector headlamps and Fiat Coupe circular rear lights embellished with chrome rings!

INTERIOR
Race style Recaro grabbing sports seats are finished in optional and expensive Oyster leather, (Code OY), sourced from the Scottish Bridge of Weir tannery both with seat heating and cooling. Slight wear to the driver bolster does not detract from the overall excellent condition. Soft leather, alcantara and wool coloured-keyed carpets specially dyed in Italy are immaculate. Two sets of foot well mats are present. Carbon fibre is clearly visible in the cars structure and stainless steel trims and alloy centre console complete the clean look and contrast beautifully against the green dial instruments. A fully specified example to help justify the eye watering price tag when new!

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Being the SV-R model this example it fitted with the larger more powerful 4996cc Ford V8 quad-cam light alloy engine developed by tuning specialists Roush Industries. A burbling deep-chested exhaust rumble is intoxicating and immense fun. Annual maintenance checks and MOT history means this car goes as good as it looks! The 5-speed Tremec gearbox helps propel the car from 0-60mph in 4.9 secs and a top speed of 175mph.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Unique alloy MG-OZ 5-spoke 18″ wheels are wrapped in the original and specially developed Michelin Sport tyres measuring 245/40 ZR18 front and 265/40 ZR18 at the rear with ample tread. One front wheel has a minor rub to the centre surface barely noticeable. Uprated Brembo discs and floating 4 pot brake calipers combined with Bosch ABS and electronic traction control for continual eye-popping stopping power!

HISTORY FILE
The intriguing MG XPower SV Supercar has already cemented its place in motoring history and with so few made this top specification SV-R with only 9,464 miles and fully traceable history deserves a place in any car collection. Registered on the 7 September 2004, the first registered owner was disgraced Phoenix Venture Holdings. Purchasing the Rover Group for a notional sum of £10 in May 2000 which then followed in the five executives involved taking £42m in pay, pensions and fast cars, before it collapsed in April 2005. Then purchased by serial car collector, Colin Faulkner via the Wyles Hardy & Co MG Sport & Racing liquidation sale when the car had covered just 2,879 miles. His other icons include the AC Cobra, Morgan V8 and Porsche 911 Turbo. In July 2008 the car was then sold to Brian Stymest who was adamant his chosen MG XPower must be the more powerful SV-R and a complete original factory built car. With assistance from the MG SV Owners Club this prime example was purchased and remained in his care for 12 years before being sold to his son-in-law in November 2020. With specialist invoices from Chiltern Aston, Luffield Service Centre and Redline American Muscle Garage along with annual MOT and service checks this example has full traceable history.

All handbooks, brochures, manuals and even Wyles Hardy auction cataloges remain in the neatly organised history file. An original spare parts catalogue and MG XPower SV book by David Knowles is included.

HISTORY FILE
The MG RV8 was always destined to become a classic with just 1983 units made reviving a golden motoring repute and celebrating thirty years after the birth of the legendary MGB. This exceptional example spent eleven years with its sole Japanese owner who purchased the car new in 1995. Manufactured in June 1995, the vehicle was repatriated in 2006 with all importation documents and UK registration completed. The car was sold by a Hyundai Main Dealer, T. W. White & Sons of Weybridge, who imported the car from Japan. The first UK buyer was a Mr Maurice Amdur who is non other than a Physic and Clairvoyant to the Stars and for whom a quick search engine explore will reveals his close connection with countless A-List celebrities for many years! Mr Amdur never registered the car in his name and he owned for just two weeks. KGF Classic Cars contacted him to ask why he sold it so soon and he kindly replied in writing stating that he found himself too tall for the car and that it was an excellent car. He went on to say he believes it to be a mistake that he sold it and he would happily speak to a new owner to offer guidance on their future together! The car was subsequently sold to the only UK registered owner, Mr Noel, who has owned it since.

There is paperwork from when the car was in Japan with key information such as dates and mileage translated and there is also a photograph of the original speedometer clock from when the car left Japan displaying 669km/415 miles. The current odometer reads 404 miles totalling 820 miles from new! In August 2022 the car was subject to a full inspection, recommission and major service by classic cars specialists and is now ready to enjoy or preserve as the new owner wishes. Both sets of keys and code tags are present along with the book pack including the service book. An MG RV8 ‘The Marque has returned’ sales brochure is included and cherished registration E3MGR remains with the car. This stunning example is a must for anyone seeking a rare and collectors quality example of MG motoring history.

Available only in Pewter Metallic for the GT and Bronze Metallic for the Roadster and each with special distinguishing livery, two cars (one of each derivative) were retained by the BL Heritage Collection which left the remaining 998 cars available to the dealers who fought to stock the cars and even luckier members of the public who managed to acquire one.

The servo assisted braking system incorporates 10.75in front discs and 10in rear drums to offer steady and capable straight line stopping power.

HISTORY FILE
A Heritage Certificate issued on 23rd September 2004 by the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust confirms that this example, number 327 of 500, was built on the 28-29th August 1980 and despatched from Abingdon on the 25th November 1980. The destination dealer, Herwin Canny and Company Limited of Woolwich, registered the car new on the 19th February 1981 to the first owner, Mr J Adams. The amazing and frankly colossal history file forms a crucial part of the cars story and begins with the original sales invoice issued by Herwin Canny and Company Limited to Mr Adams detailing the options specified and purchase price of £6,877.79 less £2,502.79 for his 1979 Leyland Mini! The original Passport to Service booklet is stamped by the selling dealer and the last entry is in 2020 with just 1,500 miles covered since. The car has been known to the MG Car Club MGB Register since 1988. Beautifully presented in a tailored made leather binder is a massive chronologically arranged and complete file of invoices dating right back to 1981 with even the running-in service when the car was just three months old! Thorough perusal of the file would consume countless hours and there is a vast amount of paperwork spanning the 1980’s 1990’s and in to the new millennium where in around 2004 a full nut a bolt restoration began. Photographs of the car pre-restoration show a solid and undamaged car that was just awaiting a transformation into the perfect MGB GT LE! The restoration is fully documented both in the history file and photographs and the huge spend on top of the brand-new heritage shell which was sourced and painted by the MG Owners Club, MGOC, would run into tens of thousands of pounds now, a new shell current costing around £13,000 alone! The previous owner was a MG and British Leyland enthusiast with several other classic cars in his collection including a MGR V8 and a Morris Mini Cooper 970S. A collectors quality example of the final MGBGT tribute and a true slice of MG motoring history. Not to be missed.

HISTORY FILE
Supplied new by MG Rover main dealer, Lockwood and Greenwood of Manchester, on the 16th May 2003, this example has had just two keepers from new and covered a verified 15,076 miles. The new vehicle order form in the history file is made out to Mrs WS Fairhurst who having been an existing MG Rover customer was awarded an exclusive £1,500 loyalty voucher. However, this was gifted just after she had placed the order for this example and agreed part exchange for her year 2000 MGF. Armed with her generous voucher, Mrs Fairhurst contacted the dealership who agreed that the voucher deadline could be extended to cover the delivery date of her car and to, as per her words in the letter, recover some of the value of the optional extras totalling £1,671 for the customised TF she had ordered! Correspondence in the file includes a further letter of complaint to MG Rover headquarters at Longbridge whereby upon preparing for delivery of her new car, it transpired the voucher had already been used to discount the car and there would be no further reduction. The outcome of the complaint remains a mystery!

The original handbook and service book with eight stamped entries are present in the plastic MG wallet and a further history folder contains invoices and every MOT since the first in 2006 to verify the 15,076 miles covered. A service has just been carried out in January 2021 and the cambelt and water pump change was undertaken in 2018 at 13,140 miles. Finally, there are two original keys with fobs and dealer keyrings as well as the exclusive Monogram Special Order program brochure. A quality indoor car cover is also included. Facts on the exact numbers of MG TF’s in Spectre Chromactive are subject to slight variation, all below 30. What is certain is that this incredibly rare example with just two owners and 15,076 miles is firmly in serious collector territory.
