Mk1 Ford Transit Flatbed Truck

SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

A homage to the potato merchant, a spudtacular Mk1 Ford Transit Flatbed truck.

EQUIPMENT
Chassis cab body with 2-door cab, flat bed with rear bulkhead, twin-wheel rear axle, load tie hooks, side door window down windows plus opening quarter lights, built in cab steps, three seats, carpeted cab floor, twin sun visors, can heater/ventilator, fuel gauge, engine temperature gauge, speedometer, odometer, foot operated windscreen washers, ashtray. Custom features; Bespoke built Keruing timber load bed and bulkhead, cab roof rack, large door mirrors, Baxter & Guion Ltd colour scheme paintwork, Baxter & Guion Ltd vinyl livery, side mounted spare wheel carrier, LED roof and side lights, inertia reel seat belts to outer seats, electric fuel pump prime button, tool box.

EXTERIOR
The Mk1 Ford Transit certainly needs no introduction having earned the accolade of ‘The Backbone of Britain’ and gaining iconic status since its launch in 1965. This example is a homage to what was one of the largest Potato merchants in the country, Baxter & Guion Ltd of Peterborough. The firm ran mostly Foden lorries which were painted in the distinguishing cream over black with gold and red lettering. They also ran a Mk1 Transit flatbed to which this example has been built to celebrate by a former employee! The cab is very presentable having had a full historic restoration whereby all structural body work was prepared prior to painting. The result is a structurally superb example requiring no remedial work whatsoever but not cosmetic or factory perfect. The superb bespoke flatbed was made by the previous owner using knowledgeable techniques and the highest quality materials. The Keruing timber wood for example was purposely laid and fixed while wet to ensure that upon drying there would be shrinkage to create a small gap between the boards to allow for re-expansion in poor weather. The vinyl lettering looks superb, as do all trim and light fittings the latter of which although mostly genuine Ford fitment, strict afficionados will note for example that the front repeaters are of the post 1971 type as opposed to half repeater/half side light. Massively nostalgic for those who appreciate years gone by!

INTERIOR
An interior that underlines just what commercial vehicles used to be, a work horse equipped with just what you need and not much else! The clean and functional cab features black vinyl seats in fantastic condition free from rips and a fully fitted carpet. The interior metal work is painted to co-ordinate with the exterior colour scheme. The black headlining is intact and all functions and controls operate including the period aftermarket radio cassette. Custom features and elements such as incorrect style door cards have never concerned the previous owner and the next should appreciate this truck is certainly not standard or perfect in condition, albeit altogether very presentable and a true commercial!

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The four-cylinder Essex V4 sits snugly behind the flat front grille, correct for this engine and as opposed to the ‘bull-nose’ extended fronts required for the Perkins/York diesels and Essex V6 petrol variants. This simple and reliable 2.0 unit has been maintained to a good standard to deliver capable if not overly rapid performance. The four-speed manual gearbox operates well requiring familiarisation with the long gear lever a long-lost feature in vans!

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES.
Six steel wheels are painted red and look smart shod in quality brand 185 R14 heavy duty tyres with excellent tread remaining. The brakes operate well having been well maintained and following the fitment of a Transit Mk2 front axle with discs brakes for upgraded performance.

HISTORY FILE
Supplied new on the 1st May 1968, the supplying Ford Main Dealer was Halls of Finchley, North London. Remarkably, the original Halls of Finchley supplying dealer plaque remains fixed to the nearside inner A-pillar! The previous owner, Mr Howard Gosland, purchased the vehicle in 2010 with one aim in mind, to recreate something that he held special to him. This was to be a vehicle that played homage to a long established Peterborough firm that gave him a ‘big-break’ as a young self-employed haulage contractor. Baxter & Guion Ltd were primarily potato merchants and indeed one of the biggest in the country. The firm offered Howard parking facilities as well as sub-contract work and their Black and Cream vehicles were for many years a familiar sight around Peterborough and their city centre-based premises. Now retired but not before a fascinating career which Howard feels was helped kickstarted by Baxter & Guion Ltd, the Transit truck seen here replicates the firm colour scheme and livery. Owned now for twelve years, six of which it took to restore the vehicle, this delightful classic commercial was bound to attract attention and indeed occupied a five-page feature in the September 2018 issue of Classic Van and Pick-up. It was even the main cover feature and thankfully a pristine copy of the magazine is held in the history file. The history file itself holds a vast collection of receipts and invoices pertaining to the build as well as an original operator’s manual. There are detailed accounts of the history of Baxter & Guion Ltd and even email exchanges from Mr A E Baxter’s Great Nephew who himself and his father worked for the firm!

HISTORY FILE
Factory build records confirm that this Ford Capri 2.0S was built in June 1983 at the Ford factory in Saarlouis, Germany. Registered new on 12th August 1983 by Ford Main Dealer, Spruce Howlett & Co Ltd in Norwich, this example has covered just 12,760 miles from new. The first owner, Mr Malcolm Pearson, keeping the car for two years and returning to the supplying dealer for service work. With just three former keepers since, the car has remained in the Norwich area until the latest custodian, Mr Hinchliffe, purchased the car in 2019. Riddled with guilt after smashing up his brothers brand new 2.0S, his motive was to buy this ‘as new’ example and gift it to his brother as an apology nearly 40 years later! The reality was his brother had moved on enjoying the modern benefits of the motor vehicle rather than classic car idiosyncratic tendencies! Stored in a carcoon since Mr Hinchliffe purchased it and facing the prospect of long periods of inactivity the decision to sell was made. Recently serviced with a brake overhaul and cam-belt the car is ready for the next Blue Oval enthusiast.

The handbooks, guides, dealership literature and original stamped service booklet are present and a collection of previous MOT certificates and invoices dating back to the 1990’s. Completing the history file are two sets of keys with supplying dealer leather key fob, supplying dealer tax disc holder and an original Ford Capri brochure.

Ford Escort RS Cosworth Luxury

SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

An iconic Ford Escort RS Cosworth Luxury with 38,948 miles and full history.

MODEL HISTORY
The Ford Escort RS Cosworth was a sports derivative and rally homologation special of the fifth generation Ford Escort. It was designed to qualify as a Group A car for the World Rally Championship. It was available as a road car from 1992-96 in limited numbers from Ford’s Specialist Vehicle Engineering, (SVE), team. It combines the hand-assembled engine expertise of Cosworth and the coach-building crafts of Karmann. In order to accommodate the larger Cosworth engine and transmission Ford developed the car around the chassis and mechanicals of its predecessor, the Sierra Cosworth. A very rare car with only 7,145 examples being produced. (Source Wikipedia, 1995 Edition One RS Brochure and the RS Owners Club).

EQUIPMENT
Body colour front bumper with black lower extension, front air dam, louvred bonnet air intakes, wing air extraction grilles, integral driving lights and fog lights, driver airbag, central double locking, padded armrest with cassette storage, oil pressure gauge, turbo gauge, voltmeter, quartz digital clock with ambient temperature, white sports dials, Ford 2007 RDS radio/cassette. Factory Options; Luxury Model comprising of; electrically operated and heated door mirrors, ‘Quickclear’ heated windscreen, heated washer jets, three-spoke leather covered steering wheel, rear centre armrest, rear head restraints, electric sunroof, electric windows, carpeted door bins. Air conditioning, CD player Model 2040.

EXTERIOR
The exhilarating exterior of this Escort RS Cosworth is nothing short of magnificent finished in striking Imperial Blue Metallic, (Code H3). The paintwork boasts an impeccable shine thanks to cherished upkeep and Carcoon storage. Ford claimed 400 unique components for the exterior of the Escort Cosworth from the integral front wing air extension grilles to the unique whale tail to generate aerodynamic downforce reinstated on this once aero-pack delete example. All exterior trim, lights, badges and rubbers are excellent and the correct Ford window Security System stickers remain fitted as well as Ford Main Dealer number plates. The vulnerable adjustable splitter to the lower front spoiler is fully intact with a few marks. A preserved underside featuring a stainless exhaust with the correct oval tailpipe is structurally perfect. An amazing example of this Ford RS legend.

INTERIOR
The interior of this Escort Cosworth is factory standard with Luxury Pack benefits. The Recaro seats are finished in standard Grey Hexagon Cloth, (Code L9), and are immaculately clean and free from wear with only tiny undulations to the passenger thigh extension, barely visible. Fitted with the optional CFC-free air conditioning blowing ice cold and fully operational factory upgraded Model 2040 CD player, this is a great drivers cockpit. A Clifford Avantguard Thatcham Approved alarm has been fitted. The original headlining is slightly unstuck in a few corner sections and Ford paper mats for the show circuit cover genuine Ford carpet mats protecting a perfect cut-pile carpet. A Ford seat cover is also included. The boot area is pristine and houses the factory fitted space-saver spare wheel and correct jack with carpeted covers. A stunning RS interior, totally original and unspoilt.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The RS Cosworth powerplant warrants little introduction. Fitted with the factory standard Generation Two Ford EEC IV electronic engine management system and Garrett AiResearch T25 turbocharger and intercooler, the motorsport pedigree of this car is obvious. Alterations from standard specification are limited to a Graham Goode Racing, (GGR), chip and stainless exhaust system to replicate the original so the output of 217HP is slightly improved. Expect the car to accelerate rapidly through 0-60 in 5.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 144mph as quoted by Ford. The clean engine bay is exactly as Ford intended and displays factory seam welds and weld dots to the wings along with original plates and stampings to pass strict Ford aficionado scrutiny. The permanent Ferguson four wheel drive system with 34/66% front/rear power split mated to a MT 75 5-speed gearbox is a delight.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Immaculate Ford RS Ronal 8 X 16” five-spoke alloy wheels are shod in Yokohama 225/45 R16 tyres with ample tread. The space saving spare wheel is the unused factory Pirelli item with coloured banding and tiny nobbles still intact. Electrically-controlled ABS anti-lock system with two microprocessors and ventilated front and rear discs offer immense stopping power.

HISTORY FILE
Assembled in June 1995 at the Rheine Assembly Plant in Germany, this factory specified Luxury model was one of the few RHD UK specified cars to be registered new in Japan. Frustrated Japanese enthusiasts unable to buy the desirable model locally and prepared to pay large premiums, would order the cars through the UK dealer network and import them. This example was registered on the 7th October 1995 and remained utterly cherished until repatriation to the UK in November 2009. Complete history throughout the cars life is neatly and chronically filed to leave no doubt to the care lavished on the car both in Japan and the UK. The car has been owned by the lifelong RS enthusiast, Mr Waterfall, since 2013 and his search for an Escort Cosworth at the time proved a challenge with poor structurally compromised examples being the norm. As a lifelong member of the RS Owners Club, Mr Waterfall was fortunate to be offered this highly recommended example. RS Club valuations prove its high standing at the time and subsequently and the cars upkeep is witnessed not only in the cars impressive condition today but huge documentation file, even fuel receipts have been retained pertaining to the car! All handbooks, brochures and red master key are present. A car most definitely for the Blue Oval fanatic.

KGF Classic Cars purchased the car from the original lady owner in February 2019 whereby it was then sold to the second and only further keeper. The second lady owner is an avid Ford enthusiast and owns a Focus ST and has only decided to sell this car after falling in love with a newer model Fiesta ST. Personalised touches are shown in the photos but can be returned back to standard.

The Ford zip up document wallet houses the original handbook and service book which has 12 stamped entries to fully verify the mileage, 10 of which are by a franchised main dealer. The most recent service has just been carried out in September 2022 at 38,938 miles using genuine Ford parts with invoice to evidence. Two Ford keys and an original Fiesta ST150 brochure complete the history file along with a folder of receipts and previous MOT certificates.

Not meeting the usual KGF Classic Cars stock profile due to the personalisation but not detracting from the cars overall excellent attributes, we are offering this example for sale on a part exchange to clear basis. The car looks superb and performs as such and represents a fantastic useable example and one which could be returned to standard and made highly desirable to follow the path of previous Ford icons such as the Fiesta Supersport and XR2. Alternatively, simply enjoy it as it is! All servicing is up to date and the car is requiring nothing for immediate enjoyment. Full inspection and test drive is welcome.

HISTORY FILE
Registered new on the 1st September 2008 by Main Dealers, Brooklyn Ford of Kidderminster, this prime ST500 has covered a low and verified 27,424 miles from new. The first keeper owned the car for 11 months when it was then sold as an Approved Used Ford by Main Dealer, Dees Wimbledon, to a lady who part exchanged her Fiesta Zetec S. Ownership has since passed to her husband and then in 2016 to the previous owner who is a family friend. He bought the car having known it since it was 11 months old and safe in the knowledge of how well it had been cared for and that it had never been driven hard, the fate of many ST Fiesta’s! A desire to create a car worthy of concours competitions whilst retaining originality led to countless weekends lost to painstaking detailing as well as refurbishment and replacement of small underside components. A huge catalogued file of parts receipts evidences the extensive sourcing of genuine Ford parts and alludes to the no expense spared and no compromise mentality directed at the project. All fluids and servicing were undertaken at the time. The result is simply astonishing, a car that drives as good as it looks.

The Ford zip up document wallet houses the original handbook and service book. Further invoices and MOT certificates date back to the first in 2011 are kept along with two Ford keys and an original Fiesta Range brochure. Representing the next generation of collectable fast Fords, it is virtually impossible to fault this car.
