The three-position front adjustable splitter still has the factory chalk marks and the underside is factory correct and spotlessly clean having never been altered from production.   The colour-coded fuel filler cap and large door mirrors of early Big Turbo cars along with every inconceivable detail is correct.  This one owner Escort Cosworth is the Holy Grail.

INTERIOR
The interior of this early Escort RS Cosworth Lux Edition is as new and exactly as Ford intended.  The Recaro seats finished in the Polaris Grey Hex cloth, (Code LW), are divine with a fullness only witnessed on incredibly low mileage examples never exposed to ultraviolet light.  The desirable early leather covered steering wheel with three horn buttons remains fitted.  Removable Ford RS Owners Club stickers are affixed to front screen with this being the 94th car registered.  Being one of the first 2500 cars the pristine boot area still has the water injection kit never plumbed in and unused to comply with homologation. Most were removed by the Ford dealer to avoid customer confusion but the only owner of this car knew the significance and asked the dealer not to remove it.  Seat covers, a supply of genuine Ford paper mats and upmost care help explain why this interior is perfect.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The powerful and well proven Cosworth 2.0 litre 16v turbocharged YBT engine features the larger Garrett T3/T04B turbocharger with a two-stage water/air and air/air intercooler together with an electronically regulated over-boost facility.  Being an early car it is also fitted with the desirable Weber-Marelli fuelling and ignition system.  The blue painted cam cover denotes a number of significant changes over the older YBG unit of the Sierra RS Cosworth and power is quoted at 225bhp with 0-60 in 5.9  seconds and a top speed of 140mph. Religious annual servicing by the supplying Ford main dealer leaves no doubt to the mechanical wellbeing of this cherished car.  The owner even keeping removed spark plugs when new ones were installed.  The permanent Ferguson four wheel drive system with 34/66% front/rear power split mated to a MT 75 5-speed gearbox is light and direct.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Genuine Ford RS 8 X 16” five soft-spoke alloy wheels built by Ronal are pristine and still shod in the correct Pirelli P Zero tyres which were specially developed for the Escort RS Cosworth.  Unbelievably the tyres are perfectly preserved thanks to being wrapped and the car being off the ground when stored.  Electrically-controlled ABS anti-lock system with two microprocessors and ventilated front and rear discs offer immense stopping power.

HISTORY FILE
Simply astonishing and unrepeatable.  This desirable Big Turbo model was built in September 1992 at the Rheine Assembly Plant in Germany and registered new on the 1st January 1993.  Supplied by John Grose in Ipswich for £22,402.52 to the only owner, Mr Rick Wildridge who specified the car to be registered with a ‘COS’ suffix private number plate which remains with the car.  Ownership has never passed to any other individual, organisation or collector.  John Grose have annually maintained this car from new with an impressive 24 service entries catalogued over four service books and every invoice accompanied by each Ford Visual Health Check.  Mr Wildridge also insisted that the same trusted John Grose employee, Mr Steve Syrett now the Service Manager, work on the car!  This fanatical approach is echoed in every conceivable way from the climatic storage chamber for the car to the near obsessive collection of Escort Cosworth literature spanning 25 years.  A Classic Companions ‘This is Your Life’ presentation box neatly documents any expenditure including the 16 fuel station visits using only Shell Super Unleaded with accompanying receipts.  A Ford connoisseur will be amazed with all aspects of this example and will no doubt want to claim it to be the very best in the world.

An extensive collection of invoices, MOT certificates and home produced technical specification sheets are included. The original owner literature including the Escort Mexico Owner’s Handbook encased in the A5 Ford Sure wallet remains with the spare keys.  A previous owner has requested, after making the difficult decision to part with the car, that all trophies, medals, plaques and crystal awards remain with him as a memento of his tremendous efforts.  Photos of all the awards are provided.  Last sold by KGF Classic Cars in 2013 we are delighted to offer this vehicle again to the next discerning collector and blue oval enthusiast.

Ford Sierra RS Cosworth

SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

An iconic Ford Sierra RS Cosworth with just 32,521 miles from new.

MODEL HISTORY
The Sierra RS Cosworth project was defined in the spring of 1983 by the then recently appointed head of Ford Motorsport in Europe.  It was established that at the time, Ford was no longer competitive in this area.  After receiving full support from Ford Public Relations, the project was underway with the Sierra chosen as the basis for the task ahead.  Ford Motorsport in Europe approached the automotive company Cosworth who answered positively, but put up two conditions:  The street version of the car had to produce no less than 204 HP, and Ford had to accept no less than 15,000 engines.  The project would only need about 5,000 engines, but Ford nevertheless accepted the conditions. The extra 10,000 engines would later become one of the reasons Ford also chose to develop a four door, second generation Sierra RS Cosworth.  Few cars have ever been greeted with such enthusiasm as the original Sierra RS Cosworth.

EQUIPMENT
Bodyside mouldings, integral front air dam, colour coded door mirrors, electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors, colour coded lockable fuel filler cap, bonnet cooling vents, halogen headlamps, integral front driving lamps, colour coded bumpers with front moulded overriders, single plane rear wing spoiler, tinted glass all round, extended centre console, leather gearknob, leather three spoke sports steering wheel, cassette storage, electronic sound system (model ECU2) with power amplifier, Recaro Sports front seats, tilt and slide sunroof, tachometer with turbo boost gauge, anti-locking brake system with failure warning light, electric front windows.  Dealer accessories; Ford tailored floor mats.

INTERIOR
The interior of this RS Cosworth is outstanding and exactly as Ford intended.  Finished in Ford Roma and Cashmere Grey Velour, (Code S2), the Recaro seats and door trim are spotless and show virtually no wear.  Only very light creasing to the driver’s seat base is evident.  The carpets are spotless and have remained free from wear having been protected from new by tailored floor mats  A second brand new unused set of genuine Ford floor mats is included.  The dashboard is completely free from distortion and three miniscule hairline cracks can be seen, only upon very close scrutiny.  The standard ECU2 electronic sound system with power amplifier is fully operational and the LCD display to warn of bulb failure and open doors operates perfectly.  Even an unused Ford first aid kit remains in the uncut parcel shelf, and the boot insulation panel designed to raise the boot floor to incorporate the larger spare wheel has been retained!  A classic and correct Ford RS interior.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Fitted with the standard 1993cc Dual Over Head Cam (DOHC) engine with the Garrett AiResearch T.03 turbocharger and intercooler, the racing pedigree of this car is truly evident with performance figures quoted of 204bhp, 149mph top speed and 0-60 in just 6.2 seconds.  The engine bay will please originality seekers with factory panel stampings on the inner wings, bonnet underside and slam panel.  All stickers and plates remain intact, long since lost on most examples.   The tough T5 manual transmission is direct and precise, just as you would expect from the low mileage covered.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES

HISTORY FILE
Manufactured at the Ford Genk plant in July 1986 and supplied new on the 23rd August 1986 by Ford Main Dealers, Vospers of Plymouth, this example has covered a genuine and verified 32,521 miles from new.  The large history file contains documentation from new to the present day including comprehensive MOT history and invoices, as well as early Ford service check lists.  The Ford Extra Cover Plus wallet contains all handbooks, guides and dealership literature, and the original stamped service book with most recent entry being in July 2016.  A documented cambelt change including auxiliary belts was carried out in 2013 with less than 3,000 miles covered since.

HISTORY FILE
Registered new on 1st April 1976 soon after the launch of the Mk2 RS2000 in the previous January, this early example was to become known as the ‘Broadstripe’ in recognition of the wide bodyside tape line.  Later RS2000’s were split into either Base or Custom models, all of which had a much thinner decal line to the side, amongst other alterations.  The earlier Broadstripe cars had as standard very similar equipment levels to the later Custom models.  This example, the feature of a Retro Ford magazine feature in 2006, had previously undergone a full restoration from the original Carnival Red RS2000 whereby a replacement body was utilised.  The history file is simply colossal with a huge collection of invoices and receipts from renowned classic and fast Ford specialists totally many thousands of pounds.  The restoration and modification is documented within the extensive paperwork and revisions are sympathetic to the original design and widely recognised within the Ford community.  With work undertaken by knowledgeable specialists, this example performs every inch as its tremendous looks would suggest.  Appealing to the wider community of Ford fans who, perhaps rather than hold emphasis upon complete accuracy, simply wish to enjoy exhilarating drives, fantastic usability and the spirit of the legendary Escort RS2000 with ‘thumbs up’ acknowledgement on every outing.

MODEL HISTORY
JH Jennings and Son Ltd of Sandbach Cheshire had been in the business of coachbuilding for over 200 years when this Ford Transit Roadranger was produced.  Using traditional methods of an aluminium skin over hardwood frame and a one-piece GRP roof moulding, the Roadranger models built upon various doner chassis cabs were of the finest quality in the business.  This masterpiece of British craftsmanship was coach painted by hand, a real diminishing art.

EXTERIOR
This beautifully crafted and well known Jennings Roadranger is built upon the Mk1 Ford Transit chassis cab, an iconic vehicle in its own right.  Finished in the factory original coach painted cream with white flash stripe, the original paint finish incredibly remains bright and in excellent order.  Minor touched in areas to the paintwork are visible upon close inspection but do not detract from the absolute wow factor this vehicle creates.  Structurally perfect underneath and in both the cab and camper sections, this remarkably rare survivor has been used, enjoyed and thoroughly cherished.  The chrome front bumper, door mirrors and other trim sections are in pristine order.  All original badges and decals are present and show natural light tarnishing, and the original factory build plates remain in place.  Completely unmodified and remarkably original, this astonishing vehicle is exactly as the Jennings craftsmen intended and a credit to its makers and two owners.

INTERIOR
Absolutely original and beautifully preserved.  The term ‘timewarp’ is often used and perhaps loosely interpreted but completely justified in this case.  All fixtures and fittings as well as the original trimmed upholstery are completely factory original.  The Tangerine trimmed seating (build code E909) was put into storage when the vehicle was brand new for preservation purposes and a second similar set purchased for use.  Both sets remain with the vehicle.  The fitted light oak cabinets are all intact and in fantastic order having been regularly treated with Lord Sheratons wood balsam and even the original clean red carpet remains fitted.  All domestic cooking and washing facilities are operational but have not been safety tested by KGF Classic Cars.  The dinette area coverts effortlessly into a double bed area with a neat stowage slot for the table and additional child bunk above the cab.  The cab area itself is in wonderful condition with the original black vinyl seats and all functions factory standard.  A small unstitched section to the driver’s seat and light wear to the leather trimmed steering wheel are merely evidence of holiday usage and take nothing away from this vehicles huge appeal.  A functional period CB radio is the only non standard fitment.  Winner of countless awards and the subject of classic campervan book publications, it is easy to see why.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The four cylinder V4 crossflow unit warrants little introduction having been the trusted power plant of countless Ford vehicles for many years.  This simple and reliable 1996cc unit has been maintained to an excellent standard and having covered just 40,169 miles from new delivers effortless and quiet performance.  The automatic transmission, a £94 option in 1972 operates perfectly.  A perfect set up for relaxed holiday cruising.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The original steel fitted items consisting of twin rear wheels are shod in heavy duty tyres with excellent tread remaining.  All four wheels display the original Jennings fitted period chrome hubcaps which are in excellent order aside from a small area of damage to the front nearside item.  The power assisted brakes offer prompt and safe straight line stopping power.

HISTORY FILE
A brilliant history file befits this wonderful vehicle immensely.  The original chassis cab was supplied by Ford Main Dealer Albert E. Chatfield of Stoke-on-Trent and supplied to renowned Coachbuilders JH Jennings and Son Ltd.  There is even a Dagenham Engine Assembly Plant tag tucked in the service booklet!  Upon completion of the beautiful Roadranger conversion this example was registered new on 9th June 1972 to first owner Mr Leonard Hemmings.  Sadly after just one trip and 317 miles covered, Mr Hemmings fell into poor health and passed away.  Remaining with his widow and garaged stored, the vehicle was put up for sale in 1980 still with just 317 miles on the clock.  The second owners Craig and Marion Harrison purchased the vehicle on 29th June 1980 and have owned it ever since.  Usage for many happy holidays and show events, this incredible example has now covered just 40,169 miles from new with every single MOT certificate to fully verify the mileage.

All original handbooks, service books and operating guides are present along with a Jennings Roadranger sales brochure.  Two illustrated books featuring this very vehicle claim it to be surely the best in existence and many awards and recognition help to uphold this claim.  Further print outs talk about the vehicle build details and regale tales of holidays enjoyed by Craig and Marion.  Quite simply a wonderful story, a wonderful vehicle and something to put a smile on anyone’s face.  A essential piece for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
