Ford Escort Mk2 RS2000 Broadstripe

SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

A very rare early Ford Escort Mk2 RS2000 Broadstripe in exceptional condition.

EQUIPMENT
Polyurethane front end incorporating four Cibie quartz halogen headlamps, front air dam, rubberised tail spoiler, four piece Ford badges on grille and boot lid, unique broad bodyside stripes, RS2000 decals, black door mirrors, laminated windscreen, tinted glass, hazard warning flashers, heated rear window, separate fuel, water temperature and oil pressure gauges, padded sun visors, centre console, two-speed heater, aeroflow ventilation with eye ball vents.  Factory options; Ziebart rust protection treatment.  Optional Equipment: Ford mudflaps.

MODEL HISTORY
Launched in January 1976, the Mk2 Escort RS2000 featured the highly distinctive ‘droop snoot’ nose cone housing the four Cibie quartz halogen headlamps.  The early cars at the time of launch were only available with one specification and one trim colour option, black.  Known as the Broadstripe due to the wider side coachline designed to replicate a continuation of the bumpers, the basic specification of these early cars had all the options which were later to make up the `Custom Pack`.  In July 1976 the Broadstripe was dropped for a smaller twin coachline and in 1978 the introduction of two models, the Base and Custom Packs offered a wider choice for Ford customers.

EXTERIOR
This very early March 1976 example represents an extremely rare car with its non-sunroof and non-vinyl roof configuration.  Finished in the rare original colour of Carnival Red (code D), the vibrant paintwork is simply stunning.  Only very close scrutiny from the perfectionist will reveal minimal and miniscule imperfections to the finish, entirely insignificant.  The Ziebart plugged drill holes remain having served their purpose of preserving the cars structural integrity.  Correct early RS2000 exterior features include the broad side stripe, ‘pre blue oval’ FORD lettering to the grille and bootlid and wing badges to denote 2.0 engine size.  A program of underside and engine compartment detailing add to the exceptional appeal of this beautiful car and firmly upholds its show car credentials.  All trim sections and decals are perfect and just as Ford intended, and the supplying Ford dealer rear screen sticker remains in place.  Truly pristine and very very special.

INTERIOR
The absolute wow factor certainly continues to the interior of this RS2000.  Correct standard Black (code A8) Scheel roll top seats preceded the widely used Fishnets Recaros, and these fitments are pristine.  Further features of the pre Custom/Base cars include the black headlining, tinted glass, Ford analogue clock, glovebox and white needle instruments, all items present and correct!  The perfect fascia and dash top house fully functioning gauges and equipment including the two speed fan and clock.  The carpets, door cards and black headlining are all unmarked.  A spotlessly clean boot displays the rubber strap holding the spare wheel and the original jack inside the Ford hessian bag is present.  An alarm has been fitted.  Beautifully preserved and wonderfully true to the Ford RS vision, simply superb!

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
An overhauled 1993cc SOHC engine features a correct blue rocker cover and has been further enhanced with the addition of twin Weber 45 DCOE carburettors.  All components are beautifully detailed and polished to match the exceptional exterior.  An invoice in the history file dated April 2015 from renowned Wayne Mitchell Competition Engines Ltd evidences a full check over including compression check, timing adjustment, coolant flush, ignition timing, carb balance, gearbox oil and various other points to ensure absolute optimum performance.  A Type 9 gearbox conversion has been professionally installed to offer real modern day usability.  This classic RS2000 goes even better than it looks!

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Stunning replica four spoke Ronal style 6J x 13in alloy wheels feature polished face and rims with black infills to create a true testament to the original RS fitments.  All four wheels are in perfect condition and shod in quality Yokohama A539 185/60 R13 tyres with masses of tread remaining.  Vacuum servo assisted and uprated front disc brakes with rear drums brakes offer ample stopping power.

HISTORY FILE
An amazing and extensive history file to complete the package!  Supplied new by Ford Rallye Sport Dealers Alexanders of Edinburgh on 1st March 1976, this very early Mk2 RS2000 has had just four former keepers.  The new vehicle sold card in the file even confirms the salesman’s name as well as the first keeper Mr David William Raistrick.  No less than two service books are complete revealing the care bestowed on this car and a large neat folder houses many specialist invoices and previous MOT certificates to help support the mileage displayed of 77,619 miles.  Two Operation and Care booklets are in the file, one to cover all Escort models and another specifically for the Mexico and RS2000 models!

This incredible example has been enthusiast owned and cherished from new, and the car presented today represents the ultimate classic RS Ford.  Satisfying the desires for rarity, fun and impeccable finish, this RS2000 Broadstripe simply cannot be overlooked.

Ford Sierra RS Cosworth

SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

A legendary original Ford Sierra RS Cosworth with just 25,768 miles from new.

MODEL HISTORY
The Sierra RS Cosworth project was defined in the spring of 1983 by the then recently appointed head of Ford Motorsport in Europe.  It was established that at the time, Ford was no longer competitive in this area.  After receiving full support from Ford Public Relations, the project was underway with the Sierra chosen as the basis for the project.  Ford Motorsport in Europe approached the automotive company Cosworth who answered positively, but put up two conditions:  The street version of the car had to produce no less than 204 HP, and Ford had to accept no less than 15,000 engines.  The project would only need about 5,000 engines, but Ford nevertheless accepted the conditions. The extra 10,000 engines would later become one of the reasons Ford also chose to develop a four door, second generation Sierra RS Cosworth.  Few cars have ever been greeted with such enthusiasm as the original Sierra RS Cosworth.

EQUIPMENT
Bodyside mouldings, integral front air dam, colour coded door mirrors, electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors, colour coded lockable fuel filler cap, bonnet cooling vents, halogen headlamps, integral front driving lamps, colour coded bumpers with front moulded overriders, single plane rear wing spoiler, tinted glass all round, tailgate wash/wipe, laminated windscreen, extended centre console, cigar lighter, quartz digital clock, fascia light dimmer, leather gearknob, leather three spoke sports steering wheel, 3-speed heater fan , cassette storage, electronic sound system (model ECU2) with power amplifier, electric aerial, Recaro Sports front seats, split folding rear seats, tilt and slide sunroof, tachometer with turbo boost gauge, trip recorder, anti-locking brake system with failure warning light, electric front windows.  Factory options; Ford Black paintwork.

EXTERIOR
The commanding exterior of this RS Cosworth is breath-taking and nothing short of simply magnificent.  Finished in optional Ford Black (code A9), the paintwork boasts a deep gloss shine from the original, unrestored factory finish.  The car has no rust or corrosion whatsoever and its stunning preservation is commensurate with an example of such amazing low mileage.  All exterior trim is in excellent order as is the glass, lights and badges, although the front lower rubber splitter is mildly out of shape.  Light stone chips to the rear lower arch extensions and a couple to the front are left untreated so as not to dilute the originality.  Dealer number plates and rear window sticker are fitted as is a red coachline specified by a previous owner.  The engine bay is incredible in its originality and condition with factory plates and stickers displayed but has never been detailed.  A truly sensational car remaining just as Ford intended.

INTERIOR
The interior of this RS Cosworth is simply stunning.  Finished in Ford Roma Grey (code S2), the Recaro seats and door trim are superb.  Only light creasing to the driver’s seat base is evident.  The carpets are spotless and have remained free from wear having been protected by tailored floor mats.  All interior equipment and trim is original, functional and free from any modification or additions.  The dashboard is immaculate having suffered no cracks, discolouration or distortion.  The standard electronic sound system with power amplifier remains as Ford intended and the LCD display to warn of bulb failure and open doors operates perfectly with all lamps elements working.  Even the original unopened Ford first aid kit still wrapped in cellophane remains in the parcel shelf compartment!  An absolute showpiece.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The original RS Cosworth powerplant warrants little introduction.  Fitted with the standard 2.0 Dual Over Head Cam (DOHC) with Garrett AiResearch T3 turbocharger and intercooler, the motorsport pedigree of this car is unmistakable.  With an impressive output of 204HP allowing the car accelerate smoothly through 0-60 in 6.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 149mph, this truly is a recipe to set the heart racing.  The low mileage is clearly evident when changing through the gears with crisp, tight and precise progression up and down the range.  An absolute delight.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The standard 15 X 7 inch RS Sierra Cosworth alloy wheels are shod with Firestone Firehawk 205/50 R15 tyres all round, with excellent tread remaining.  Retaining the factory standard finish, the wheels are exceptional albeit for just a faint section of lacquer lift on the offside front rim.  Diagonally split hydraulic circuits, anti-lock braking assisted 28.3cm ventilated discs up front and 27.3cm discs at the rear bring the car to a sure and steady halt.

HISTORY FILE
Supplied new on the 2nd June 1987 by Ford Main Dealers Gilbert Rice, this example has had just three former keepers with the main custodian having owned the car from November 1988 until September 2014.  The history file consists of many main dealer and specialist invoices dating throughout the vehicles life as well as previous MOT certificates. A print out is also included revealing date, mileage and work carried out of every visit. An invoice in the history file from 2013 for £1,031.83 evidences a cambelt change including auxiliary belts and pulley assembly, water pump and brake overhaul in addition to service items.  A further oil service has just been carried out in April 2015 with less than 100 miles covered since.

Now having covered a very low 25,768 miles from new, this car has never been restored or modified, even the factory supplied exhaust system is still fitted!  An exceptional show car worthy of any premier collection.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Recent works to the original RS Cosworth powerplant are documented and an extensive refurbishment process to restore originality is largely complete.  Finishing items such as some factory stickers, a turbo heat shield and fusebox black material cover are required.  There are also some minor clips and fixings chrome plated.  Performance from the 204HP 2.0 Dual Over Head Cam with Garrett AiResearch T3 turbocharger is impressive with 0-60 in 6.2 seconds and a top speed of 149mph quoted.  The low mileage is clearly evident when changing through the gears with crisp, tight and precise progression up and down the range.  An absolute delight.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The standard 15 X 7 inch RS Sierra Cosworth alloy wheels are shod with Goodyear Eagle 205/50 R15 tyres all round, with excellent tread remaining.  The boot mounted spare houses an unused factory issued Dunlop D40.  Diagonally split hydraulic circuits, anti-lock braking assisted 28.3cm ventilated Tarox 40 groove discs up front and 27.3cm discs at the rear bring the car to a sure and steady halt.

HISTORY FILE
Supplied new on the 27th August 1986 by Ford Main Dealers, R.C Edmondson Ltd this vehicle was purchased by the Managing Director of plating company when just three years old having covered 12,837 miles.  At which point the vehicle was completely standard and had two former keepers.  He set about transforming the car to showcase the expertise and capabilities of his business and stun the show circuit.  Magazine features, interviews and articles are included documenting the many class wins including 1993 RSOC National Day Champion, modified, post 1981.  In his care, (with a short absence before being compelled to buy his pride and joy back), until December 2014 the vehicle was sold to a Ford aficionado who set about returning the car to standard.  Now almost complete, a new owner may wish to enjoy and show the car as is, or complete the standard look fully.  A number of previous MOT certificates, service book entries and invoices help verify the low mileage covered.  A rare and fascinating car.

HISTORY FILE
Registered new on 23rd March 1989, this incredible example boasts provenance of having just two keepers.  A Mr Brown purchased the car new as a birthday present for his wife Sheila.  The vehicle having enjoyed regular use was subsequently used only sparingly following Mr Brown’s passing, however regular maintenance and annual MOT testing was upheld.  The second keeper Mr David Tring purchased the car in November 2002 from Cheffins Auction House, a route of sale deemed to be the least emotionally taxing by Mrs Brown.  With no intention of buying whilst at the auction, Mr Tring was overcome by an episode of spontaneity and decided to purchase this example for nostalgic reasons having owned a similar example when new!  The decision to sell this stunning example is born from his AC Cobra recreation project requiring more time and attention.

The Ford leather wallet contains the original stamped service book along with every handbook, radio guide and dealership literature from point of sale.  Furthermore, the history file contains MOT certificates and invoices to further support the incredible low mileage and even the Cheffins Auction bidding card!  This vehicle is certain to appeal to a collector of modern classics wanting one of the best, most original lowest mileage examples in existence.  The ultimate Ford fans desire.

Standard 13” sports road wheels are unrestored with the black infills and stamped part numbers prominent.  All four bright embellishers as fitted to the Ghia models remain and have light scratches, more so to the front items.  Five 155/80 R13 tyres have masses of tread remaining including the factory Goodyear tyre fitted to the spare wheel.  Hydraulic dual line brakes incorporating front discs and rear drums operate well.

HISTORY FILE
Registered new on 26th November 1979 by Ford Main Dealer Moores Weybridge Limited, this wonderful Escort has had just two keepers from new, father and son!  First keeper Mr Stanley Patten purchased the vehicle upon retirement and cherished it as his pride and joy until passing.  Bequeathed to his son Richard in the will, the vehicle has continued to be cherished and strictly garage stored whilst enjoying minimal use, resulting in the amazing low mileage of just 29,500.  Richard transferred the vehicle into his name on the 26th November 2001, its exact 22nd anniversary!  The original Moores vinyl wallet contains all documentation from the new car handover, including the service booklet, handbooks and operating guides.  Even the salesman’s business card, owner certificate and unused Cyalume lightstick remain!  The history file further consists of previous MOT certificates to help support the low mileage as well as previous registration documents.

Holding immense appeal for any enthusiast or collector wanting one of the most original, unmolested and truly treasured Mk2 Escorts remaining.  A rare opportunity.

A useful DVLC print out of every of every one of the nine former keepers is provided before being purchased by the one NI collector from whom KGF Classic Cars acquired this vehicle from.  Featured in Classic Ford magazine in 2000 when the owner at the time had just finished a meticulous restoration the car went on to successfully compete at Ford National Day in 2000 and 2001.  Registered with the Ford RS Owners Club these attributes will help to reassure the next buyer of this rare Fords authenticity.  An A4 folder containing numerous invoices, old MOT certificates and various other historic documentation is included with the sale.

EXTERIOR
Introduced in September 1981, Ford intended on making just 5,000 RS1600i’s for homologation requirements, but the car sold so well that 8,659 cars were in fact built with just 2,000 for the UK market.  The exterior of this example is finished in Ford Graphite Grey (code 9 1), the equal rarest of colours along with Strato Silver, only 250 of each being produced (Source; RS Owners Club).  The metallic paintwork has a bright gleaming shine and smooth finish, complimented by the correct RS1600i decals on the bonnet, boot lid and sides.  Two small touched in blemishes to the bonnet are visible yet inoffensive, the sunroof has some delamination and the bottom of the rear valance minor paint lift.  The original rear spoiler is perfectly straight and free from common distortion issues.  All further exterior trim sections are in excellent order as is the glass, lights and badges, the glass having original number plate etching present.  A clean engine bay reveals correct factory stickers and identification plates and the twin coil set up remains just as Ford intended.  A superb and now very rare example of the first front wheel drive Ford ever to wear the RS badge!

INTERIOR
The interior of this RS1600i is in fantastic order.  Finished in Shark Grey Crushed Velour (trim code TC), the seats and bolsters have retained all structural integrity and the coverings have only the mildest age related wear especially noticeable on the driver’s bolster inner edge.  The matching door cards and perforated headlining are in pristine condition.  The deep grey carpets are clean and free from undue wear.  Amazingly, the dashboard is completely free from the all too common cracking.  All interior equipment is functional and the trim pieces intact, including the immaculate rear parcel shelf which has remained free from speaker cut outs.  A Ford push button radio completes this wonderfully classic Ford interior.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Fitted with Fords 1600 Compound Value angle Hemispherical chamber (CVH) unit producing a manufacturer quoted 115 BHP.  Mated to the Bosch K Jetronic Fuel Injection System and incorporating deceleration fuel shut off, the instrument orange and red lamps illuminate upon deceleration once the engine is at operating temperature and the engine speed is above 1600rpm.  The car has a top speed of 118mph and achieves 0-60 in 8.7 seconds with an addictive and instantly recognisable rasp from the standard size exhaust.  The gear changes are light and exact, a pleasure to operate.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The original 15 X 6 inch RS seven spoke alloy wheels are pristine and correct to the RS1600i model having only one spoke on each wheel stamped with the Ford emblem as opposed to the more common RS Turbo fitments with three stamped spokes.  The spare has minor curb damage. The wheels are shod with matching quality 195/50/R15 tyres all round.  Diagonally split hydraulic circuits with tandem master cylinder, vacuum servo assistance and 9.4” ventilated discs up front bring the car to a halt but far short of modern standards.

HISTORY FILE
Registered new on 5th August 1983, this example has covered just 76,688 miles from new in the hands of five former keepers.  The history file comprises of some previous MOT certificates and some invoices including one dated April 2012 documenting a full cambelt kit and new water pump with less than 5,000 miles covered since.

A remarkably well preserved example of a rare car that is fast becoming highly desirable, most definitely one for the true enthusiast.
