Ford Escort RS Cosworth

SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

A desirable Big Turbo Ford Escort RS Cosworth Luxury with 48,429 miles.

MODEL HISTORY
The Ford Escort RS Cosworth was a sports derivative and rally homologation special of the fifth generation Ford Escort. It was designed to qualify as a Group A car for the World Rally Championship.  It was available as a road car from 1992-96 in limited numbers from Ford’s Specialist Vehicle Engineering, (SVE), team.  It combines the hand-assembled engine expertise of Cosworth and the coach-building crafts of Karmann.  In order to accommodate the larger Cosworth engine and transmission Ford developed the car around the chassis and mechanicals of its predecessor, the Sierra Cosworth.  A very rare car with only 7,145 examples being produced and this one of the desirable early 2,500 built for homologation.  (Source Wikipedia, 1995 Edition One RS Brochure and the RS Owners Club).

EQUIPMENT
Body colour front bumper with black lower splitter, louvred bonnet air intakes, wing air extraction grilles, aerodynamic rear wing with lower boot spoiler, electro-luminescent instrument cluster, oil pressure gauge, turbo gauge, voltmeter, quartz digital clock with ambient temperature, delayed courtesy light, map reading lights, glove box illumination.  Factory Options; Luxury Pack comprising of opening rear quarter windows, electrically operated and heated door mirrors, ‘Quickclear’ heated windscreen, heated washer jets, three-spoke leather covered steering wheel, central double locking, tailgate release, lights on warning, rear centre armrest, rear head restraints, sunroof, electric windows.

EXTERIOR
The striking exterior of this Escort RS Cosworth is nothing short of remarkable.  Finished in iconic Diamond White, (Code B2), the paintwork boasts a brilliant shine and uniform colour match between panels.  Early homologation clues such as the exposed petrol cap and larger door mirrors remain fitted.  All exterior trim is in excellent order including the factory original light units.  The chrome on the rear tailgate badges has worn thin on the corners and rubbers are in good condition.  The black lower splitter is undamaged and the underside is very clean with a coating of Waxoyl.  A rare sporting Ford.

INTERIOR
With a majority of components being built specifically for the RS Cosworth this is a privileged place to be.  The Recaro seats are finished in optional perforated Raven leather and are in very good condition commensurate with the low mileage covered.  The cut-pile carpets have been protected by genuine Ford rubber mats.  The comprehensive and sophisticated instrumentation has beautiful dials with black detail on a white background.  A boost control switch, immobiliser and Collins turbo gauge are fitted.  The Ford FD 2007 radio cassette is the correct unit but the CD unit is an earlier Ford item and a led has been removed. Being one of the first 2,500 cars the pristine boot area still has the water injection kit never plumbed in and unused to comply with homologation. Most were removed by the Ford dealer to avoid customer confusion but fortunately this has remained with the car.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The Cosworth YBT Big Turbo engine warrants little introduction and the early Escort Cosworths with the Weber-Marelli engine management, T3/T04B turbocharger and visible blue cam cover are very sought after.  Visual modifications courtesy of Brooklyn Motorsport Spec-R alloy items are fitted along with a K&N cone filter.  Other modifications include uprated fuel pump, cooling system swirl pop and light blue injectors.  The exhaust note through the stainless steel system is glorious.  The standard 227bhp engine enabling a top speed of 140mph and 0-60mph in 5.9secs can be expected.  The permanent Ferguson four wheel drive system with 34/66% front/rear power split mated to a MT 75 5-speed gearbox with a Helix Organic uprated clutch provides precise reassuring changes.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Pristine 8 X 18” Rondell alloy wheels are shod in premium branded tyres with masses of tread remaining.  Ahmed Bayjoo spec springs on standard shock absorbers provide excellent handling characteristics and drilled ventilated front and rear discs with braided hoses offer confident stopping power.

HISTORY FILE
Built at the Rheine Assembly Plant in Germany in September 1992 and registered new on the 7th October 1992 by the Ford Motor Co themselves making this model one of the highly sought after and early 2,500 Big Turbo homologation specials.  A further five former keepers have cherished this example, one of which was Mario Caira, a respected Cosworth racing driver who had this car as his own personal vehicle.  The current custodian, Mr Fitzpatrick, has known the car for 18 years and was fortunate to purchase it in 2004 from a friends mother when the car had a four digit personalised registration number.  This car was her pride and joy with the daily car being a Ford Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth!  Mr Fitzpatrick used the car sparingly and has created a personal memoir of his ownership which includes the vehicle being used at Road Shows to educate school children on road safety and photographs of the car when it was in storage in a Carcoon.  A full service and cambelt change has just been carried out by Harvey Gibbs at Supreme Car Services in July 2018 at 48,413 miles.  All book packs are present including the original service book, old MOT certificates and two sets of keys.

Their number plates and tax disc holder remain with the vehicle. The car comes with every MoT certificate dating from 1983 to 1993 when it was laid up showing 30,405 miles on the odometer. In 1997, the car was MoT’d again (at 30,514 miles), and in March 1998 was placed in dry storage showing the current mileage of 31,786 (the 1998 tax disc is still in place). On 1st October 2016, the Escort was purchased by a renowned enthusiast and collector of early Ford RS models – and since then has been sympathetically re-commissioned while remaining in dry storage. Entered into Bonhams Goodwood Members Meeting Auction in March 2018 where the car sold for £40,250 to Ford collector Mark Bailey from the world famous Bonkers Collection. His decision to sell was made by the acquisition of a lower mileage Mk2 RS2000 supplied by KGF Classic Cars. Ford Capri 2.8 Injection Special

SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

A mind-blowing Ford Capri 2.8 Injection Special with a remarkable 8,334 miles.

EQUIPMENT
Remote control driver’s door mirror, body-coloured grille, lamp bezels body-coloured, power assisted steering, front and rear spoilers, tailgate wash/wipe, tinted glass all round, ammeter and oil pressure gauge, tachometer, quartz analogue clock, courtesy lights, perforated black headlining, front reclining Recaro seats, three-spoke leather covered steering wheel, tilting/sliding steel sunroof, boot light, instrument brightness control.  Factory options; Black paintwork.  Dealer options;  Mudflaps, Ford floor mats, Toad A1606 Alarm.

EXTERIOR
This outstanding unrestored Ford Capri 2.8 Injection is one of the final cars made, and having covered a genuine 8,334 miles from new, this is without question an exceptionally special car.  A cost option when new, the factory original paintwork in Ford Black, (Code A9), boasts a near flawless finish and deep mirror shine.  The front displays a few small stone chips and touched in markings, entirely minimal and forgiven for such an original example.  To further delight the connoisseur is the supplying Ford Main Dealer, Cuff Miller, number plates, mud flaps and tax disc holder all remaining fitted.  All trim sections and decals are preserved with no damage from exposure to elements, and all light lenses are original Hella fitment with Ford and ‘Made in England, lettering.  A super low mileage and beautifully preserved Capri, the jewel in any Ford collection.

INTERIOR
An interior that must be seen to be believed and perhaps the most special part of the car.  Entirely commensurate with the 8,334 miles covered, the interior condition is impossible to replicate and even extends to retention of the original Ford smell!  The supportive Recaro seats in grey high-grade leather with ‘Strobe’ pattern fabric centre panels, (Code Q5), are spotlessly clean with firm seat structure.  The driver’s seat upper bolster has some very light furring to the stitching as well as the near impossible to find removable back rest pads in matching ‘Strobe’ pattern.  The door cards, headlining and trim sections are as new and the deep pile grey carpeting is pristine having been protected from new by Ford tailored floor mats.  The leather covered steering wheel and gear knob are perfect with natural veins prominent, a trait of such low mileage.  The factory fresh dashboard has no cracks whatsoever and all switchgear and controls are as new with bright white lettering.  The factory fitted ESRT 32PS stereo cassette and electric aerial are fully operational.  Originality seekers with delight further at service stickers in the door shuts and unspoilt pin-straight parcel shelf, as well as factory build stickers and foam insulation pads preserved in the boot floor.  The term time warp is entirely suitable in this instance.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The Capri 2.8 Injection was the first offering of the new Special Vehicle Engineering (SVE) operation that had recently been set up in Dunton, Essex.  SVE added a Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection system, an oil/water heat exchanger, viscous coupled fan and an improved radiator making the 158 BHP capable of 130mph and 0-60mph in 7.9 seconds.  The fantastic engine bay is fastidiously standard with Motorcraft service items, factory plates and stickers and Ford wing stampings clear to see.  A quality GES Ltd stainless steel exhaust with lifetime guarantee was fitted in 2014.  The 5 speed gearbox is direct and progression through the range is effortless.  This Capri is as close to a new car driving experience as you will experience.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The factory 7-spoke alloy wheels are unrestored with correct Ford badged centre caps and factory weights.  Light aging is evident along with some discolouration to the caps.  A collectable and highly prized full set of five Goodyear Eagle NCT 60 tyres have remained on the car since new with the spare wheel completely virgin with coloured banding to the tyres!  The hydraulic dual-line servo-assisted brakes with ventilated front discs unique on the 2.8 Special stop the car quickly and in a straight line.

HISTORY FILE
The very last Ford Capri was built in December 1986.  Built in November 1986 at the Cologne Plant in Germany, this very late 2.8 Injection Special was registered new on 28th February 1987.  The supplying Ford Main Dealer was Cuff Miller & Co Ltd of Littlehampton, Sussex.  Clearly keen on brand exposure, the Cuff Miller branding can be found of the mud flaps, tax disc holder, number plates and document wallet as well as of course their supplying dealer stamp in the original service book!  Just three owners from new are fully traceable and the first issue blue V5 has been kept.

A wonderful part of the history file is the two factory build and specification sheets.  The document wallet holds all handbooks, operating guides, radio instructions and dealership literature as well as the Salesman’s business card.  Furthermore, the history file holds previous MOT certificates, a service invoice for May 2017 with just 30 miles covered since and two sets of keys.  A unique opportunity to acquire an iconic unmolested Capri 2.8 injection with amazing credentials and condition to match.  One for the serious collector.

Pirelli P6 Cinturato 185/60 R13 tyres are still fitted including the spare all of which have ample tread but a change is advised if regular use is intended remembering to keep the originals! The dual line servo assisted brakes with 8.7” front discs and 7.0” rear drums bring the car to a halt but fall short of modern brakes.

HISTORY FILE
On the 18th July 1980 the Ford Press Office announced the launch of their latest special edition model, based on the Fiesta 1300cc “S” and named the Fiesta Supersport. Only 3000 were built and this genuine example was produced in January 1981. Registered on the 23rd March 1981 this Supersport is recorded on the Register and known to the Club. Every MOT certificate from the first until 1999 when the vehicle had covered 69,272 miles before being put into safe storage. In 2007 the car was MOT’d at 69,361 miles where regular MOT history has continued. The V5 will state zero former keepers due to a short period of time with an Irish collector but the actual number of recorded owners from new is five. Lovely artefacts are present in the history file such a receipt in 1984 when the car was sold for £3000, historic XR Supersport Register Membership Cards and classic car show entry forms from when the car was exhibited. A Currie Motors wallet containing all the Ford handbooks remains with the car along with two sets of Ford keys. Representing a fantastic element of Ford’s historic sporting pedigree, this highly collectable model has become virtually impossible to source in such an unmolested condition and is now ready for the next custodian to enjoy.

HISTORY FILE
Registered new on the 16th November 1973 as a humble Escort 1100L, this car led an unassuming life throughout the 1970’s, 80’s and 90’s, and it was into the millennium that the cars transformation was undertaken in the hands of eclectic classic car collector, Robert McMillon. Having searched extensively for a Mk1 RS2000, Robert became disheartened with many non-genuine examples masquerading as genuine AVO cars and the few genuine examples he could find were in such poor order. This led Robert to make the decision to build his own RS2000 recreation, exacting to his own specification and standard. The car as it stands today is a testament to his dedication, skill and knowledge and represents everything that the original Mk1 RS2000 stands for at a fraction of the price! A superb achievement, huge fun and highly usable.

Ford Escort Mk5 RS2000

SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

An incredible Ford Escort Mk5 RS2000 with only 12,462 miles.

EQUIPMENT
Twin bonnet power bulges, four beam headlights, integral fog lights, long range driving lights, tailgate spoiler, power steering, electric front windows, quickclear heated windscreen and washer jets, slide/tilt sunroof, central locking, electric heated powered mirrors, variable reach sports steering wheel, Recaro seats, cassette stowage, coin slots, trinket tray, lights on audible warning, courtesy light delay, 60/40 split rear back rest.

EXTERIOR
This original example is finished in optional metallic Pacifica Blue, (Code J2), which gleams thanks to indoor heated storage and very low miles.  The understated looks were Fords intentions to keep away from the Boy Racer image but bonnet power bulges, revised front grille and bumper, colour coded side skirts and rear spoiler soon inform the knowledgeable.  The coveted Rallye Sport badging along with all other trim is immaculate.  Minor stone chips to the bonnet and a very slight roof mark prove originality and will not disappoint the perfection seeking owner. Supplying Ford dealer number plates remain fitted along with period window stickers.  All apertures are spotlessly clean and the underside still displays Ford PDI colour dabs including those on the coil springs.  A totally original, unspoilt and preserved example, very difficult to better.

INTERIOR
The plush Panache velour fabric in Dark grey complements the sports ambience of the car and is immaculate. The special Recaro seats are comfortable and supportive with no wear and all carpets have been protected from new by genuine rubber Ford mats. The car retains a distinct new car aroma.    All controls operate with slickness and ease and the unique lighting on the dash in orange with red detailing is unmistakable.  A section of red trim has lifted slightly on the dash and the steering wheel and gear knob still have prominent texture and grain thanks to the ultra-low mileage.  The boot area is immaculate with a period boot tidy still attached and the parcel shelf is pin straight.  An outstanding Ford RS Ford interior.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The inline 4-cylinder 2.0 DOHC 16v engine produces 150bhp and propels the car from 0-60mph in 8 secs and on to a top speed of 129mph.  Both the 16-valve DOHC engine and the transverse application of the MTX 75 transmission was specifically developed for the RS2000 helping to utilise the power while offering a slick smooth gear change.  The engine bay is a real testimonial to the safe keep and low mileage and would suit the show circuit.  A recent major service at a Ford Main Dealer in June 2018 has been carried out.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Stunning five spoke cast aluminium wheels measuring 6X15 are polished to a lustre finish and lacquered which are correct and unique to the early Mk5 RS2000.  Matching Bridgestone Potenza 195/50 R15 tyres have ample tread and the spare is an unused factory Uniroyal item.  Teves two-channel anti-lock braking system brings the car to an assured stop.

HISTORY FILE
This pre-facelift Mk5 Ford Escort RS2000 was built in April 1992 and registered by Lex English Ford to a Mr M Tricksey.  He took delivery on the 6th February 1993 and being the consciences type the history file reveals he opted for the Ford Extra Cover Warranty and specified the Dealer to install an immobiliser, (still fitted), prior to collecting the car. He remained the owner until October 1996 when the second owner, Matthew Smith, purchased the car with less than 2,000 miles.  Mr Smith, a Ford fanatic, has remained the only custodian since and used the vehicle sparingly having now covered just 12,462 miles.  MOT history helps track the few miles covered along with four entries in the original service book. The most recent being a major service in June 2018 by Ford Main Dealer, TC Harrison.  The history file is neatly presented with a collection of tax discs up to 2002, MOT certificates and original supplying literature from Lex English Ford.  All handbooks, spare keys and brochures are present.  There are also some period magazines with road tests collected by Mr Smith.  This example represents a true low mileage survivor and one for the discerning modern classic car collector.
