INTERIOR
The interior of this remarkable example is in spotless original condition and exactly as Ford intended.  The Olivia trim in Shadow Grey colour scheme, (Code LE), is pristine and the common vulnerable areas for wear such as the seat bases and bolsters are perfect.  Protected from new by genuine Ford rubber waffle mats, the colour-keyed velour carpet is immaculate and free from wear and the perforated neutral tone headlining is flawless.  All switchgear is functional and intact, and the soft finish dashboard is perfect.  The header mounted digital clock retains the correct green LCD display and the original Ford stereo radio/cassette (Model ESRT 32 PS) remains fitted and fully operational.  The hugely difficult to source trimmed parcel shelf is intact, straight and complete with the correct rubber hangers.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The most powerful of Ghia models, the time proven transverse mounted 1392cc OHC (CVH) engine with twin-venturi carburettor develops a spirited 75bhp at 5600rpm and 109Nm of torque at 4000rpm.  With a top speed of 102mph and 0-60mph in 10.8 seconds, this lightweight and nimble car is certainly fun, and the unmistakable exhaust note is delightful!  The standard specification manual choke and electronic ignition are both present and correct, and operate perfectly.  The engine bay is spotless and displays factory plates, stickers and original inner wings with Ford emblem and date stamps clearly visible.  The five-speed synchromesh gearbox is light and exact, and the extra fifth gear over lower models offers vastly improved fuss-free cruising.  A hugely nostalgic drive!

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The original 13” X 5” steel wheels and special Ghia full wheel covers are in superb order with only light markings.  Matching Michelin 155/70 R13 tyres have plenty of tread remaining.  The spare wheel is housed in the spotless boot area alongside the original jack.  The dual line servo assisted brakes with ventilated 9.4” front discs and 7.0” rear drums bring the car up to a steady, straight and assured halt.

HISTORY FILE
Supplied new by Ford Main Dealer, Perrys of Benfleet, Essex, and registered new on 29th August 1987, the vehicle was purchased new by Mr and Mrs Anderson.  A new vehicle sales invoice from Perrys in the history file is made out to Mr Anderson with an on the road price of £5,908.68.  This little Fiesta was registered to his wife, Mrs Jean Anderson, who incredibly kept the car for 31 years until her passing in 2018, whereby it was bequeathed to her daughter Catherine.  In February 2019 the car was sold by KGF Classic Cars to Mr Phil Crisp who has covered only minimal miles mainly in attendance at classic car shows.  The decision to sale the car was made to garage a brand new Fiesta ST-3.  The very low mileage of 34,816 miles is fully verified with every MOT certificate in the history file from the first in 1990 to 2012 when the owner ceased driving and placed the car into dry garage storage.  In February 2019 a full service, cambelt and water pump renewal and overhaul of the brakes means this delightful Fiesta is wanting for nothing and is ready for enjoyment.  The original Perrys document wallets houses the service book, handbooks, guides and dealership literature as well as the two original Ford keys which operate all locks.

Guaranteed to draw much admiration at any classic car show and ready for enjoyment, this example is wanting for nothing more than its next appreciating owner.

Cherished by him until his passing when his brother Mr Bernard Blatch took ownership. Bernard had the car fully serviced and checked in February 1999 when it had covered 44,760 miles as it had been unused for a few years prior to his brothers passing and subsequently put the car in storage. Then sold in 2003 to Mr Swain a Ford enthusiast who sympathetically restored the car enjoying it for the next 14 years until the current owner Mr Warner purchased the car. Mr Warner has decided to part with the car due to the acquisition of an even lower mileage Black RS2000. A collection of invoices, old MOT certificates, tax discs and spare keys are included. An interior that must be seen to be believed and perhaps the most special part of the car.  Entirely commensurate with the 8,334 miles covered, the interior condition is impossible to replicate and even extends to retention of the original Ford smell!  The supportive Recaro seats in grey high-grade leather with ‘Strobe’ pattern fabric centre panels, (Code Q5), are spotlessly clean with firm seat structure.  The driver’s seat upper bolster has some very light furring to the stitching as well as the near impossible to find removable back rest pads in matching ‘Strobe’ pattern.  The door cards, headlining and trim sections are as new and the deep pile grey carpeting is pristine having been protected from new by Ford tailored floor mats.  The leather covered steering wheel and gear knob are perfect with natural veins prominent, a trait of such low mileage.  The factory fresh dashboard has no cracks whatsoever and all switchgear and controls are as new with bright white lettering.  The factory fitted ESRT 32PS stereo cassette and electric aerial are fully operational.  Originality seekers with delight further at service stickers in the door shuts and unspoilt pin-straight parcel shelf, as well as factory build stickers and foam insulation pads preserved in the boot floor.  The term time warp is entirely suitable in this instance.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The Capri 2.8 Injection was the first offering of the new Special Vehicle Engineering (SVE) operation that had recently been set up in Dunton, Essex.  SVE added a Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection system, an oil/water heat exchanger, viscous coupled fan and an improved radiator making the 158 BHP capable of 130mph and 0-60mph in 7.9 seconds.  The fantastic engine bay is fastidiously standard with Motorcraft service items, factory plates and stickers and Ford wing stampings clear to see.  A quality GES Ltd stainless steel exhaust with lifetime guarantee was fitted in 2014.  The 5 speed gearbox is direct and progression through the range is effortless.  This Capri is as close to a new car driving experience as you will experience.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The factory 7-spoke alloy wheels are unrestored with correct Ford badged centre caps and factory weights.  Light aging is evident along with some discolouration to the caps.  A collectable and highly prized full set of five Goodyear Eagle NCT 60 tyres have remained on the car since new with the spare wheel completely virgin with coloured banding to the tyres!  The hydraulic dual-line servo-assisted brakes with ventilated front discs unique on the 2.8 Special stop the car quickly and in a straight line.

HISTORY FILE
The very last Ford Capri was built in December 1986.  Built in November 1986 at the Cologne Plant in Germany, this very late 2.8 Injection Special was registered new on 28th February 1987.  The supplying Ford Main Dealer was Cuff Miller & Co Ltd of Littlehampton, Sussex.  Clearly keen on brand exposure, the Cuff Miller branding can be found of the mud flaps, tax disc holder, number plates and document wallet as well as of course their supplying dealer stamp in the original service book!  Just three owners from new are fully traceable and the first issue blue V5 has been kept.

A wonderful part of the history file is the two factory build and specification sheets.  The document wallet holds all handbooks, operating guides, radio instructions and dealership literature as well as the Salesman’s business card.  Furthermore, the history file holds previous MOT certificates, a service invoice for May 2017 with just 30 miles covered since and two sets of keys.  A unique opportunity to acquire an iconic unmolested Capri 2.8 injection with amazing credentials and condition to match.  One for the serious collector.

The dual line servo assisted brakes with 8.7” front discs and 7.0” rear drums bring the car to a halt but fall short of modern brakes.

Only 3000 were built and this genuine example was produced in January 1981. Registered on the 23rd March 1981 this Supersport is recorded on the Register and known to the Club. In 2007 the car was MOT’d at 69,361 miles where regular MOT history has continued. The V5 will state zero former keepers due to a short period of time with an Irish collector but the actual number of recorded owners from new is five. Lovely artefacts are present in the history file such a receipt in 1984 when the car was sold for £3000, historic XR Supersport Register Membership Cards and classic car show entry forms from when the car was exhibited. A Currie Motors wallet containing all the Ford handbooks remains with the car along with two sets of Ford keys. Representing a fantastic element of Ford’s historic sporting pedigree, this highly collectable model has become virtually impossible to source in such an unmolested condition and is now ready for the next custodian to enjoy.
