SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

A Special Vehicle Orders pre-facelift Ford Capri Mk1 1600XL with 45,968 miles.

EQUIPMENT
Safety glass all round, anti-burst locks, air extraction vents, bright metal ornamentation, bright metal window side mouldings, drip rail mouldings, water temperature gauge, warning lights for generator, oil, main beam and direction indicators, foot operated windscreen washer. Custom Plan XL Pack; Exterior dress up and interior refinement pack, reclining front bucket seats, individual contoured rear bench with fold down armrest, dipping rear view mirror, dual horns, handbrake warning lamps, additional courtesy lamp, twin reversing lamps, distinctive XL badging. Factory Special Vehicle Orders; Heavy duty suspension with towing pack (Option number 5217). Factory Options; Metallic paint, vinyl roof, servo-assisted brakes. Dealer Options; Mud flaps, sunroof, static front seat belts.

EXTERIOR
This wonderful pre-facelift Mk1 Capri 1600 features the factory ordered Custom Plan XL Pack and is finished in its original shade of Sapphire Blue Metallic, (Code 1), a factory cost option. The colour is simply stunning and presents well with a pleasing contrast against the factory ordered black vinyl roof, still original and chrome ornamentation. A historic repaint is showing some signs of aging but all bodywork and panels are absolutely solid with no crude repairs, as is the rock-solid underside that has never been welded or excess underseal applied. All trim sections are well preserved and entirely factory correct including the non-tapered dummy side vents, wider bumper overriders, Lucas headlamps and correct FoMoCo rear lenses shared with the Mk1 Escort. Originality seekers will delight at the dealer fitted number plates and the glass which is factory Triplex fitment as verified by the date dot system with exception of the windscreen which is a Triplex. A straight and unspoilt Capri in very desirable Mk1 pre-facelift form.

INTERIOR
The interior of this super example is remarkable not only in condition but more so that it is completely original! The factory super grade vinyl seat coverings and door trim in Marquis colour scheme, (Code F A), are very well preserved and the loop pile carpeting has been protected superbly and is unworn. The dashboard and fascia are remarkable with no cracks and the wood finish to the fascia surrounding the correct two-pod instrument cluster is perfect. The original steering wheel with three spoke padded centre is a work of art in itself and remains in brilliant condition and all controls function including the two-speed fan. Observations worthy of mention include the headlining which although intact has slight discolouration to the edges.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The standard 1600cc Crossflow ‘Kent’ engine is the factory fitted unit and this car is verified as being a matching numbers example. Offering respectable capabilities, a top speed of 96mph and 0-60mph in 14 seconds is quoted. The clean engine bay displays the chassis number stamped into the nearside strut top clearly readable and factory build plate and body plate that have never been removed or painted over. Even better is the Special Vehicle Orders aluminium plate citing the Heavy-Duty suspension factory fitted to the car as specified by the first owner. The delicate bottom engine tray often lost after the first service remains fitted too. The engine runs and drives impeccably and has had a major service in February 2021. The crisp 4-speed gearbox is a delight.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Factory fitted to this XL model are the rare ‘slotted Rostyle’ wheels which according to the Capri Mk1 bible, (Factory Original Ford Capri Mk1 by James Taylor), were used by Ford sporadically and only for a brief period in the early 1970’s. Named so as they had a narrow slot between the main spokes as opposed to the far for common half-spoke, the wheels display the correct silver finish with black infills. All tyres including the spare are fitted with matching Goodyear Duragrip 165/80 R13 tyres with masses of tread. The optional servo assisted brakes with front discs and rear drums bring the car up straight and true and have been overhauled.

HISTORY FILE
Built in December 1971 at Halewood and registered new on 1st January 1972 by Ford Main Agents, H.E. Nunn & Co Limited of Ipswich, this pre-facelift Mk1 Capri was ordered new by a Mr F.H. Last. Factory options were specified along with the Custom Plan XL Pack, and as Mr Last intended to tow his holiday Caravan, he stipulated the Heavy-Duty suspension and towing pack from Ford’s Factory Special Vehicle Orders department. This was only fitted to the 3 litre Capri models. Remarkably Mr Last owned the car for over 27 years until April 1999 when it was sold to a second short term owner. Between March 2000 and December 2015, the car was owned by husband and wife, Mr and Mrs Reeve, and it was only upon her husband’s passing in 2015 that Mrs Reeve decided she would sell the car, but the stipulation was that the Capri had to go to someone who would cherish it. Capri Mk1 Owners Club member, Terry Haynes, was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to buy this unique car and it has formed part of his collection ever since, sitting alongside his early 4-speed 2.8 Injection and concours Capri Laser. An avid Capri enthusiast, his passion and knowledge of these iconic cars is very impressive.

The history file is comprehensive with the dealer document wallet housing the handbooks, dealership point of sale literature, and even original service book. A further substantial file contains service invoices, maintenance receipts, previous MOT certificates and an original sales brochure for the pre-facelift Ford Capri range. Even the factory supplied CEM stamped ignition key, P.J stamped petrol cap key and FoMoCo door key remain with the car, a delight to sticklers for detail! This iconic, unspoilt and desirable Early Capri is very special.

Ford Capri 1.6 Laser

SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

Quite possibly the lowest mileage Ford Capri 1.6 Laser with only 6,680 miles.

EQUIPMENT
Body-coloured grille, bonnet lip and light bezels, body-coloured door mirrors with driver remote-control, black painted bumpers with overriders, spoiler, tailgate wash/wipe, tinted glass all round, RS-style four-spoke alloy wheels, ammeter and oil pressure gauge, tachometer, quartz analogue clock, courtesy lights, perforated grey headlining, front reclining seats, three-spoke leather covered steering wheel and gear-lever knob, tilting/sliding steel sunroof. Factory options; Metallic paintwork. Dealer options; Ford front fog lamps, Clarion CRX56 radio/cassette, electric aerial.

EXTERIOR
This incredible special edition Laser was built as a run out model of the Capri and is beautifully finished in Ford Strato Silver metallic, (Code V6), a cost option when new. This example has covered a genuine 6,680 miles from new and the condition of the car is every bit as special as the incredibly low mileage. A bright polished shine and uniform finish looks amazing and the factory original panels are in superb order with only a very small ding to each door. Owing to light markings gained in storage, the previous owner undertook some light cosmetic refurbishment which was carried out professionally to a very high standard and nothing other than small imperfections are visible upon close scrutiny, most notable being a scratch to the driver’s door mirror and tiny marks to the bonnet. Originality seekers will be pleased to see factory ‘Laser’ decals, registration etching to the glass and the supplying Ford dealer number plates and tax disc holder. This is a truly beautiful Capri and a real show stopper.

INTERIOR
The term time warp is often overused but entirely justified with the interior of this exceptionally low mileage example. The ‘Truro II’ cloth trim, (Code XE), with matching door and quarter panel inserts is pristine and reflective of its 6,680-mile credential with absolutely no visible wear to the fabric. The colour matched carpeting and headlining are both immaculate and the dashboard is completely intact with no cracks whatsoever. All controls fully function including the two-speed heater fan and analogue quartz clock. A period replacement stereo has been fitted. The spotless boot area houses the original jack and unused spare wheel still with virgin Pirelli spare tyre with label and coloured banding to the tread. The parcel shelf is pin straight and untouched and factory stickers remains attached to the boot floor. An iconic and instantly familiar classic Ford interior.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The factory fitted 1593cc OHC ‘pinto’ unit with single venturi carburettor is famed for it’s robust and simplistic mechanics. The engine is quiet and performs brilliantly with a top speed of 99mph and 0-60mph time of 13.0 seconds. The engine bay is beautifully clean with factory stickers and plates displayed and even bright factory markings to the cam cover, long lost or at least very faded on most examples! The 5-speed gearbox is light and works through the gears precisely, and the clutch feels positive.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
This Capri Laser remains fitted with the correct RS-style four-spoke alloy wheels which are in superb order with no damage and defined part number and ford emblem stampings to the spokes, a feature lost upon heavy restored rims. Pirelli 185/70 R13 tyres to all four corners have plenty of tread remaining. The hydraulic dual-line servo-assisted front discs and rear drums stop the car quickly and in a straight line.

HISTORY FILE
Factory build records confirm that this special edition run-out model Capri Laser was built in February 1986 at the Ford factory in Saarlouis, Germany. Registered new on 1st August 1986 by Ford Main Dealer, Selwood garages Ltd of South Sheilds, this example has covered a fully verified 6,680 miles from new with just three keepers. First owner, Mrs Norma Wallace, owned the car until 1993 when it was sold to Mr John Chilton. After 19 years of ownership the car was then sold to the third and last registered keeper, Mr Anthony Rear.

The handbooks, guides, dealership literature and original stamped service booklet are present and the history file is able to verify the mileage with a collection of previous MOT certificates and invoices dating back to the early 1990’s. In May 2020 and at 6,390 miles, a documented major service was carried out with all fluids changed including brake fluid, gearbox oil and differential oil. At the same time a cambelt and water pump change was carried out with supporting invoice. Completing the history file are two sets of keys and an original Ford Capri brochure featuring the Laser model. Representing a superb and highly prized example of the final edition Capri, this wonderful 1.6 Laser is ready for its next appreciative owner and would delight any Ford enthusiast or collector.

Ford Motor Company’s ‘New Edge’ design language began with the original Ka as the first production Ford to adopt the radical exterior styling mostly recognised with its use of intersecting arcs and crisp lines. This exceptional Ka Collection has covered just 9,705 miles from new and is finished in factory original Vitro Metallic, (Code Z2). The bodywork and paint finish are simply outstanding with only a few miniscule markings. Cosseted by two family member owners from new, this garaged Ka has none of the common bodywork issues often found and the amazing underside still displays factory labels, long lost on most examples. INTERIOR
The interior of this cossetted example is beautifully clean and free from wear. The original Squeeze fabric upholstery in Aqua Jade colour scheme, (Code JE), is spotless with no wear or damage to the fabric whatsoever. The carpets are pristine and are protected by Ford Ka carpet mats and the headlining is perfect. The leather steering wheel has very slight deterioration, a common issue, but this does not detract from a remarkably well-preserved cabin space. The funky blob style fascia and incorporated switchgear is as new and all functions operate seamlessly including the original Model 6000 stereo CD. Likewise, the spotless load space boasts an unmarked carpet underneath which the boot floor is as new. Clean, fresh and totally unspoilt.

HISTORY FILE
Registered new on 6th May 2004 by Main Dealer, Heartlands Ford of Birmingham, the car was purchased by Mrs Barbara Mack. The vehicle order form and sales invoice confirm the price paid of £7,674.99 including pre-registration vehicle discount. Mrs Mack used the vehicle sparingly in retirement and kept the car garaged at all times when not in use. In 2017 her Great Niece turned 17 years of age and needed her first car. Miss Charlotte Ellis became the next and only other keeper, at which point the car had covered less than 4500 miles. Charlotte has continued to cherish her Great Aunt’s Ka, the condition of which is a credit to them both and a tear was shed when sold.

The history file contains the vehicle zip wallet containing the handbooks, guides and radio booklet as well as point of sale documentation and new vehicle handover checklists. Every MOT certificate from the very first in 2007 fully verifies the exceptionally low mileage and there is a folder of service and maintenance invoices all from the same service centre that has looked after the car for many years. Completing the history file is an original Ka sales brochure along with two original Ford keys.

Debate over the pronunciation of the name Ka has continued since launch and whether it is to be said with a long or short “a”, or with the letters pronounced separately. Even Ford’s confused press office has used all three but the official Ford stance is with a short “a”! Whichever way you may wish to say it, the first examples are soon approaching 25 years old and the humble Ford Ka represents a superb value entry into classic car ownership, even more so with this incredible preserved example with just 9,705 miles from new!

Launched in Europe in 1992 by The Ford Motor Company, the first-generation Mondeo was once a very common sight on UK roads, and with early models fast approaching 30 years old modern classic status is increasingly affirmed. This two owner and ultra-rare Si model has covered a fully verified 5,737 miles from new and it is difficult to comprehend there being any better Mk1 Mondeo let alone a sporting Si variant. The factory applied Cuirass Blue paintwork (Code R6) is confirmed 100% original and is virtually flawless. A minuscule touched in mark to the rear spoiler and tiny chips to the driver’s door edge are barely worthy of mention to an otherwise perfect exterior. All trims, plastics, rubbers and badges are as new and the underside is factory original with PDI markings still visible. Further wonderful originality is found in the supplying Ford dealer number plates, front screen sticker and tax disc holder.

INTERIOR
The interior of this cossetted example is simply perfect. The original Jigsaw Raven upholstery to the sporty wing-back seats, (Code SR), is spotless with no wear or damage to the fabric whatsoever. The cut pile carpets are pristine having been protected by floor mats from new and the headlining is perfect. Ultra-low mileage traits such as factory fresh steering wheel and gear knob leather coverings are obvious. The driver inclined fascia and incorporated switchgear is as new and all functions operate seamlessly including the original Keycode RDS stereo cassette, (model 2006). An enormously comfortable interior and every inch representative of a 1996 showroom example, truly exceptional.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Factory fitted with the 2.0i DOHC 16v four-cylinder unit, the power output of 136bhp and 180Nm torque allows a top speed of 129mph and 0-60 in 9.2 seconds. The ever-helpful Ford Main Dealer’s recovery service contact label remains neatly fitted to the fuse box cover! The five-speed gearbox is light and precise to offer sporty gear changes.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The original and unique Si model wheel trims remain fitted to the steel wheels and are in perfect condition. Factory fitted 195/60 R15 Pirelli P6000 tyres retain ample tread and will delight originality seekers but due to age replacement is advised if the car is to be used. The pristine boot area with factory labels and stickers also showcases the unused Pirelli P6000 tyre and perfect plywood wheel cover disc. Diagonally split dual line brakes with servo and anti-lock assistance bring the car up straight and steady.

HISTORY FILE
Registered new on 24th August 1996 by Ford Main Dealer, Whites of Bridgewater in Somerset, the first keeper was a Mr Peter Horton who owned the car for almost 22 years! In 2018 the car was purchased by a Mr James Armstrong, a nostalgic gentleman who despite owning a collection of performance cars simply had to buy the Mondeo as it is identical to the car his father once owned! Reluctant sale now is only due to his purchase of a new Porsche for the collection allowing the opportunity for another custodian to own what is quite likely the best Mk1 Mondeo in existence.

Two Ford document wallets contain firstly the original stamped service book with 11 entries, all from the supplying Ford Main Dealer along with every handbook, radio guide and dealership literature from the point of sale. The second wallet houses every corresponding service invoice as well as annual visits for the MOT, all from the supplying main dealer. Ford Fiesta Mk1 Million

SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

A Ford Fiesta Mk1 Million with just 25,502 miles and one of 11 known survivors!

MODEL HISTORY
In February 1979 and after just 29 months of production, the Mk1 Ford Fiesta hit a major milestone with the one millionth car to roll off the production line. It was the fastest growth to a million sales recorded by any European Ford. To celebrate this incredible landmark occasion Ford released a limited-edition version based on the Fiesta L model and named it the Fiesta Million, or Millionth Edition as it sometimes known. Ford’s Dagenham factory produced just 3,100 Fiesta Million vehicles and they were available in Black or Strato Silver and came equipped with many distinctive features. (Source: Project Bobcat & Motor Sport Magazine Feb 1979)

EQUIPMENT
All steel welded construction, louvred design radiator grille, rear fog light, front air dam, laminated windscreen, tailgate wash/wipe, single tone horn, hazard warning flashers, interior light, 2-speed heater fan, two speed plus flick wipe wipers, foot operated windscreen washer, warning lights for oil pressure, high beam and ignition on, brake fluid level warning indicator. Special Edition ‘Fiesta Million’ equipment; Red decals, all-black bumpers with red bumper inserts, passenger door mirror, black window surrounds, reverse lamp, tinted glass, wider steel wheels, chequered ‘Scott’ seat fabric, headrests, centre console, Quartz clock, radio cassette, heated rear window, Factory Options; Sunroof. Dealer Accessories; Mud flaps, ‘Fiesta Million’ carpet mats.

EXTERIOR
The special edition Ford Fiesta Million was available in just two colours, standard Ford Black and this, Strato Silver Metallic, (Code V6). The car looks superb thanks to the very low 25,502 miles covered and sympathetic historic remedial paintwork carried out to uphold the look. Close scrutiny will reveal a structurally perfect example that has never seen weld repairs and light age-related markings and blemishes throughout. The original decals and badges are preserved and purists will be amazed to see factory fitted glass all round with registration number etching. Incredibly, even the rear wheel arch lip factory date stamps have survived fully visible, almost unheard of for a Mk1 Fiesta! This ultra-rare and historically important Fiesta Million is a really unique find.

INTERIOR
A wonderfully period and time warp interior. Fiesta Million cars were based on the humble Fiesta L model but featured many extras including the exclusive chequered ‘Scott’ seat fabric, (Code A1). This was very similar in design to the Carla Fabric used in the Fiesta Supersport. Remaining exactly as Ford intended, the preserved upholstery is commensurate with the low mileage and has suffered no rips or colour fade whatsoever and nothing other than very light wear to the top corner of each front seat back. The loop pile carpets are protected by specially made Million logo velour mats and the perforated headlining is fully intact. The door cards are unmarked. All equipment, switches and gauges function including the quartz clock and heater fan on both speed settings. There is a hairline crack to the dash front and the padded dash top is perfect homing an identical model car and a Saint Pio of Pietrelcina.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Fiesta Million buyers could choose either the 957cc engine or in this instance, the 1117cc unit producing a whopping 53bhp! This higher-powered option remains totally factory standard and performance figures include a quoted top speed of 90mph. The engine bay is wonderfully clean, unmolested and displays factory plates and stickers as well as panel stampings to the original inner wings. Coloured PDI dabs are visible, long lost on most examples. The engine sings into life effortlessly with the familiar Fiesta exhaust note and the driving experience is surprisingly nippy and very retro! The four speed all synchromesh gearbox precisely slots into each gear. A real joy to use.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The original steel wheels are in immaculate condition and wear period additions in the form of outer embellishers, bright wheel nut finishers and Ford valve caps, all easily removable if the new owner so wishes. Matching branded 145/80 R12 tyres have masses of tread and no cracks and the original and unused Goodyear Grand Prix X remains in the storage compartment under the boot floor. Standard fitment with the 1100 OHV engine are servo assisted brakes featuring 8.7in front discs and self-adjusting 7.0in rear drums.

HISTORY FILE
Registered new by Ford Main Dealers, Lincoln Street Motors Ltd of Birmingham, on the 3rd May 1979, this genuine Fiesta Million has covered just 25,502 miles from new. Mr F.G Payne purchased the car for his wife, Beatrice Payne, who is the first named owner on the original blue V5 document. The car remained in the Payne family for 29 years in their home town of Solihull until 2008, at which point it was purchased by a collector in Southern Ireland. There are photographs in the history file of the car being homed in a wonderful collection in Ireland and now the car has returned back to the UK with full DVLA registration undertaken. The original service booklet, handbook and Fiesta accessories brochure are present and there are many vehicle service and maintenance invoices made out to Mrs Payne along with previous MOT certificates and two sets of keys.

To emphasise just how special this Fiesta Million is, out of the 3,100 made there are only eleven know to exist and this car is the only one known to be on the road according to source, Project Bobcat, a dedicated Fiesta Mk1 website where further details, vehicle records and articles are shown here. A perfect and insanely rare addition to any classic Ford collection.

All exterior trim items and decals are in excellent order other than a few touched in marks to the bonnet. Once owned by the Branch Secretary of the Capri Club International, the car was a concourse show winner in the 1990’s and still presents beautifully today thanks to the low mileage and warm storage conditions. All the original glass is number plate etched with Identicar. Period accessories in the form of driving lamps and Yale locks, (no longer operational), were added in the late 1980’s and in 1993 a thin coat of Waxoyl was applied to the underside at a cost of £23.50! Incredibly this is still visible today helping to preserve the car and all the factory splendour.

The rear parcel-shelf is incredible and the boot area remains spotless. Electric windows and central locking are discreet accessories to an interior otherwise exactly true to the manufactures intentions and an 80’s icon.

The Capri 2.8i was entrusted to Fords Special Vehicle Engineering group, (SVE), who added a Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection system, an oil/water heat exchanger, viscous coupled fan and an improved radiator making this models 158 BHP capable of 130mph and 0-60mph in 7.9 seconds. The engine is smooth and quiet whilst producing an unmistakable burble through a replacement stainless exhaust. Correct factory under bonnet identification plates are intact with the ‘Brooklands’ inscription clearly visible. Exhibitionists will be proud to lift the bonnet for spectators to marvel at. The 5 speed gearbox is light and progression through the range is precise.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
This 280 Capri is fitted with the factory correct and unique 7-spoke 7X15 inch alloy wheels and have never been refurbished showing minor markings. Pirelli P6000 195/50 ZR50 tyres are fitted and the spare is still the original Pirelli Cinturato P7 tyre. The hydraulic dual-line servo-assisted brakes with ventilated front discs unique on the 2.8i stop the car quickly and in a straight line and reconditioned calipers were fitted in June 2019.

HISTORY FILE
Coveted by collectors the limited edition Capri 280 is the most difficult ‘car you promised yourself’ as only 1038 were produced to celebrate the last of a famous line. GG11595 is build number 737 and has only had four former keepers from new, all of which were passionate enthusiasts. Registered on the 26th March 1987 the car was sold to Laurie Mullett in May 1988. He was the Branch Secretary of the Capri Club International and doted on the car before selling to fellow enthusiast Robert Francis. Mr Francis writes a fascinating feature in the Capri Club International magazine in March 1993 describing the agonising search and eventual purchase from fellow club member, Laurie. The car was then the sold in the mid-nineties to Mr Keith and Sue Smith from Gomeldon Salisbury in Wiltshire who were Ford Capri fanatics owning up to four Capris at one time in the nineties, this car being their pride and joy and only using it for car shows each year up to 2016. Mr Keith Smith maintained this car himself to the highest standards servicing the car every year of ownership regardless of the miles covered, some years covering under 200 miles with annual MOT certificates to prove. A letter in the history file from Keith and Sue Smith to the last and current owner, Mr Don Birkinshaw in 2017, explains they were ‘absolutely gutted in having to sell due to ill health’ and that they ‘met lots of lovely people with it’. The car was affectionately known as Brookv. Mr Birkinshaw purchased the car from South Western Vehicle Auctions Limited for £35,084 in July 2017 and has religiously maintained the car since. A large history file with all documentation awaits the new owner with spare keys and original sales brochure.
