SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

A thrilling Ford Capri 2.8 Injection Special, last owner 22 years and full history.

EQUIPMENT
Remote control driver’s door mirror, body-coloured grille, lamp bezels body-coloured, power assisted steering, front and rear spoilers, tailgate wash/wipe, tinted glass all round, ammeter and oil pressure gauge, tachometer, quartz analogue clock, courtesy lights, perforated black headlining, front reclining Recaro seats, three-spoke leather covered steering wheel, tilting/sliding steel sunroof, boot light, instrument brightness control.

EXTERIOR
The iconic Capri 2.8 Injection Special needs little introduction and this example is one of the last cars produced. Finished in desirable Ford Diamond White, (Code B3), the paintwork boasts a bright finish and polished shine with all decals fully intact and correct. Carefully touched in stone chips to the front and only minimal age-related imperfections are visible upon close scrutiny, not to spoil the overall impressive appearance. The factory fitted panels are straight with linear gaps and the exterior trim items and bumpers are excellent. All glass is security etched with the registration mark along with the lenses which are the original Hella and Ford fitment with ‘Made in England’ lettering. Thankfully the underside is free from excess applied underseal to allow easy inspection of the structural integrity. A 1980’s performance legend, exactly as Ford intended.

INTERIOR
The interior of this 2.8 Injection Special evokes a sense of true nostalgia with the supportive Recaro seats looking fantastic finished in the grey high-grade leather with ‘Strobe’ pattern fabric centre panels (code Q5). The driver’s outer bolster is fully intact and firm showing only very light wear. The deep pile grey carpeting is clean and the black perforated headlining unique to the 2.8 Special is tight. The leather covered steering wheel and gear knob are undamaged and all controls fully functioning. There are two small cracks in the dashboard. The factory fitted ESRT 32PS stereo cassette remains fitted and fully functional. This car has remained in the hands of Capri enthusiasts and has thankfully avoided the 80’s and 90’s modification trend. Superb.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The Capri 2.8 Injection was the first offering of the new Special Vehicle Engineering (SVE) operation that had recently been set up in Dunton, Essex. SVE added a Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection system, an oil/water heat exchanger, viscous coupled fan and an improved radiator making the 158 BHP capable of 130mph and 0-60mph in 7.9 seconds. The engine bay is very clean with factory plates, stickers and inner wing stamping clear to see. The engine is smooth and quiet whilst producing an unmistakable burble and a deep roar under enthusiastic use! The 5 speed gearbox is direct and progression through the range is effortless.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
This Capri is fitted with the factory original 7-spoke RS style alloy wheels in flawless condition and with Ford badged centre caps. Quality branded Firestone Firehawk 205/60 R13 tyres are fitted all round and have masses of tread remaining. The spare wheel is the factory Good year item. The hydraulic dual-line servo-assisted brakes with ventilated front discs unique on the 2.8 Special stop the car quickly and in a straight line.

HISTORY FILE
Built at the Cologne plant in November 1986, one month before Capri production ended, this 2.8 Injection Special was registered new on 21st January 1987 by Ford Main Dealers Bussey and Sabberton Bros Ltd or Norwich. The previous owner, Mrs Tracey Sparks, purchased the car in May 1996 and has owned the car for over 22 years. The history file is simply colossal with the huge file presented neatly in chronological order and dating back to the 1980’s. Perusal of the history file would takes hours and there is also every MOT certificate carried out since the first in 1990. The original book packs, Capri operating guides, and point of sale literature are present along with two sets of keys. The car has also been known to the Capri Club International since the early 1990’s and there is even an exclusive set of their mud flaps fitted!

To drive this example following inspection of both machine and history file, you are left in no doubt that this Capri has been maintained regardless of cost and dearly cherished. The next owner will benefit from this greatly and find themselves the proud owner of a useable yet show worthy example.
