SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

A fabulous Land Rover Discovery XS 300Tdi Series One with 48,493 miles.

EQUIPMENT
Steel box chassis with aluminium body panels, driver’s air bag, side impact bars, quartz halogen headlamps, perimetric and volumetric alarm, rear door mounted spare wheel, seven seats, digital clock, cigar lighter, padded steering wheel, delayed interior lighting, illuminated vanity mirror, electric pack- windows, heated door mirrors, headlamp power wash, Travellers Audio Choice, remote central locking. Factory Options; Towing pack 3,500 Kg limit with electric headlamp levelling, ‘Skyline Choice’ twin sunroofs. Dealer Options; Spare wheel cover, Discovery full interior rubber mats.

EXTERIOR
Finished in factory original Altai Silver Metallic, (Code 567), the paintwork boasts a bright polished shine and uniform finish. This low mileage example certainly has never exploited its off-road capabilities leaving all factory panels preserved and damage free. Only tiny paint chips and minor markings to the plastic trim will show upon very close scrutiny, utterly insignificant. The underside and common vulnerable areas associated with early Discovery’s have remained in excellent order, as have all robust and chunky trim sections and Land Rover badged light lenses. Main Dealer branded number plates and spare wheel cover remain fitted, as do the original XS decals to the lower doors, a feature often lost on used painted examples. A very well cared for Series One Discovery, virtually impossible to find in such wonderful pampered condition.

INTERIOR
This low mileage protected interior remains exactly as Land Rover intended. The Discovery XS part leather trim with unique Land Rover centre panels is spotlessly clean and wear free with even the driver’s bolster firm and intact. The matching grey carpeting has been fully protected by heavy duty Land Rover rubber mats which extend to the large rubber boot floor protector leaving the luggage area pristine. All controls and switchgear feel like new and operate seamlessly, including the Discovery Travellers Audio Choice stereo. The steering wheel shows the prominent natural veins found only on such low mileage vehicles. Two additional folding rear seats as standard on the high specification XS models make this seven-seater an ideal retro family recreation vehicle. The perfect blend of comfort and luxury versus rugged and tough.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The 300Tdi 2.5 diesel turbocharged and intercooled engine needs little introduction with proven strength, reliability and simplicity. Producing 111.3 bhp with an impressive 265 Nm of torque at just 1,800rpm, pulling power is guaranteed. This pampered example even boasts a super clean engine bay with factory plates and stickers as well as genuine Land Rover service items clearly visible. Impressive capabilities to include minimum under axle clearance of 215mm and normal wading depth of 500mm show why Land Rover set the standard for 4×4 manufacturers worldwide. A tough manual gearbox with high/low transfer giving 8 forward and 2 reverse gears is light with an accurate progressive clutch.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Factory original and XS specific ‘Sculptured’ alloy wheels are immaculate and unmarked. Expensive branded Hankook 235/70 R16 tyres grace all four corners with masses of tread. Power assisted dual circuit hydraulic disc brakes on all four wheels bring this machine to an assured halt easily.

HISTORY FILE
Supplied new on the 6th February 1998 by Land Rover Main Dealer, Lode Lane of Solihull, this example was registered to the dealer themselves as a demonstrator. The first private keeper, Mr Mick Richardson, purchased the car through the Land Rover Approved Used Vehicle Scheme with Stonelake Land Rover of Wakefield and kept the car until 2014, where after the second private keeper, Mr Matthew Prescott, took ownership. Mr Prescott sold the vehicle to KGF Classic Cars in 2017 knowing it to be one of the finest examples who subsequently sold it to Mr Martin Day within the first week of advertising! Mr Day is a Land Rover enthusiast also owning an unrestored and very early Series 1 Land Rover 80-inch and his hunt to find an original Series One Land Rover Discovery was eventually over. The incredibly low 48,493 miles covered is fully verified with absolutely every MOT certificate kept in the history file from the first in 2001 to present. The original immaculate leather document wallet contains the service book with factory build sticker and 12 stamped entries, the last being in January 2018 at 46,541 miles. This was carried out at approved Land Rover service centre, Lindacre of Ipswich who also performed a cam belt change. All handbooks, guides and dealership literature are present. Completing the history file is a collection of invoices, three keys with both remote fobs and a sales brochure. Making a fabulous much cheaper addition/alternative to a Defender, this cossetted Discovery will delight enthusiasts and collectors alike.
