SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

A genuine AVO Mk1 Ford Escort RS Mexico in fantastic enthusiast owned condition.

EQUIPMENT
Advanced Vehicle Operations (AVO) Type 49 body, front quarter bumpers, flared wheel arches, strengthened chassis rails, strengthened flitch plates, reinforced front suspension strut top mounting plates, rear radius rods, safety glass, anti-burst locks, black painted aluminium grille, six pod sports binnacle, heater fan, two speed wiper, courtesy light.  Factory fitted options; Cigar lighter, Custom Pack – nylon seats, sound deadening material, RS centre console with Kienzle clock, reclining RS type contoured front seats, heated rear window, map reading light.  Dealer Special Build Programme; RS wiper blade wind deflector, world cup cross member, winguard door mirror.

EXTERIOR
Finished in striking Daytona Yellow this genuine Mexico is outstanding. Impeccable detailing extending to the underside and engine bay will please the most critical of owners and onlookers.  Vital components such as the rear stone deflector held in by eight bolts in the boot floor and strengthened AVO workmanship are laid bare for all to see.   The chrome, glass, and badges are in immaculate order and rare period stickers remain intact.   Tiny markings exist to some of the Mexico stripes and the rear valance around the exhaust is slightly chipped.  Years of attending shows and fastidious polishing has worn the paint thin in areas but has never prevented the car being annually highly commended at the prestigious Ford AVO National Days.  Amazing in every respect and one for the collector.

INTERIOR
True in every manner to a genuine Ford Mexico Custom Pack interior presented in a preserved and undamaged condition.  The pristine door cards, headlining and dash top material reveals the pampered life this RS Mexico has enjoyed.  The rare Kienzle clock housed within an uncut RS centre console joins the sports instrumentation providing at a glance concise information.  The brushed nylon RS sports seats with optional headrests and RS button logos match a spotless and original loop pile black carpet throughout.  A discreet Kenlowe fan switch and screen washer switch are mainly out of view.  The boot area continues the showroom experience with an unused spare wheel and a car jack complete with stickers neatly wrapped in the original hessian bag. A standard virtually impossible to replicate at any cost.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Prepare for gasps of amazement as onlookers marvel under the bonnet of this Escort Mexico.  The GT crossflow unit with the 711M block has been worked on by renown Vulcan Engineering with the aim of originality in their Vulcan Maxiflow 1 including conversion of the cylinder head to run on unleaded.  Near impossible to source and correct components grace this engine from the obvious late brake reservoir to the inconspicuous dipstick bracket.  Minor chrome detailing such as the bonnet catch complete the spotless engine bay.   Expect performance of the 1690cc engine to easily match the quoted 85bhp with 0 to 60mph in 10.7 seconds and a top speed over 100mph.  The four-speed gearbox has bronze lower bushes and an AP uprated clutch offering perfect changes every time.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Correctly dated 5 ½ J X 13” RS alloy wheels are pristine and shod in matching Falken 185/60R tyres.  An unused spare is strapped and angled in the boot with chalk marks on the tyre.  The standard braking system is very rare being dual line as found in the MK2 Ford Escorts and pulls the car to a straight stop quickly.

HISTORY FILE
Built at Fords Advanced Vehicle Operations factory in Aveley just prior to closure this very late example was registered in August 1975.  It therefore has some unique features that are present in Mk2 Ford Escorts only adding to the desirability for a collector.    Three files of detailed history amassed between each of the nine former keepers offer a wonderful knowledge of the car.  MOT history from the early eighties has also been retained.  The last owner of nine years, Mr Watts, searched hard for a ‘genuine’ Mexico before reading a four page feature in Classic Ford about an ‘as new’ car owned by Mr Crickmore since 1988.  Through determined effort he eventually persuaded Mr Crickmore to sell it to him.  A copy of the feature remains in the detailed history file!  Joining his brother (who also owned a pristine Mexico we recently sold) in attending various AVO club events where both cars were always highly commended this truly special car presents itself to a very lucky new owner to enjoy and continue to show if they wish.
