A striking E46 BMW Alpina B3 3.4 S Convertible with only 51,163 miles.

MODEL HISTORY
Established as a manufacturer of fine automobiles for the connoisseur, Alpina has thrived since the firm was founded in 1965 by Burkard Bovensiepen.  Alpina to this day works closely with BMW and their processes are integrated into BMW’s production lines and so  Alpina is recognised by the German Ministry of Transport as an automobile manufacturer.  The building of special automobiles for demanding clientele in small numbers ensures exclusivity.  The total UK production of the BMW ALPINA B3 S is 224 of which 161 are convertibles.  Our example is number 037.

EQUIPMENT
Front spoiler with integrated Alpina badge, rear spoiler, heated door mirrors, heated screenwasher nozzles, third high level brake light, front and side airbags, automatic climate control, on-board computer, cruise control, auto headlights and wipers, electric memory seats, heated seats, parking sensors, tool kit.  Alpina Specification: 305bhp engine, Alpina Switch-Tronic, Alpina light alloy wheels, uprated suspension, Alpina blue instrumentation, Alpina floor mats, Alpina door sills, Alpina steering wheel, silver plated production plaque. Factory Options: Blue hood, high gloss shadow line, M3 mirrors, wind deflector Bi-Xenon headlights with wash system, Bluetooth, navigation system with TV, BMW hi-fi system, CD changer.

EXTERIOR
This rare sporty automobile is beautiful at any angle finished in the optional and costly Special paint colour, Estoril Blue, (Code 335).  A uniform gloss shine from cossetted enthusiast ownership, low mileage and indoor storage is immediately apparent.  Supplying Dealer number plates are fitted and the previous long-term custodian of 13 years has touched in stone chips to the front and rear bumpers.  M3 mirrors were dealer fitted as preferred by the owner.  The unique Alpina front spoiler, decals and rear badges inform the knowledgeable that this is just one of 161 Convertibles made.  All trim, lights and rubber seals are perfect.  A car for the connoisseur.

INTERIOR
The driver-orientated ergonomically designed interior showcases exemplary craftsmanship.  Finished in Extended Light Silver Grey Nappa leather with Alpina roundels, rhombs and piping in Estoril Blue. This interior package cost £4045.  Vital Alpina features to establish authenticity are present such as the 180mph blue Alpina instrumentation with red needles and the Alpina plaque.  The unique Alpina velour floor mats are as new having themselves been protected by another set of mats.  Minor veins to the leather and a small pixel line on the optional navigation screen can just be seen.  All door shuts and apertures are spotlessly clean.  A complete unused toolkit is correctly housed inside the pristine boot area along with the cover for the wind deflector.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The inline 3.4 litre is an evolution of the B3 3.3 litre engine which places much emphasis on reducing the movement of free masses so extremely light pistons, a bespoke crankshaft and a reworked intake system result in a thumping 305bhp and 362Nm of torque.  With a raft of other engineering changes expect 0.60mph in 6.3 seconds and a top speed of 165mph. The incredibly clean engine bay proudly displays the manufacturer’s information plates, Alpina stickers and both the BMW and Alpina chassis numbers.  The revolutionary Alpina Switch-Tronic developed in a joint effort with ZF and Bosch constitutes the ideal driving style for any kind of situation and operates seamlessly.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Light alloy wheels with weight-optimised spokes have concealed tyre valves behind lockable Alpina branded light alloy die-cast covers and are in excellent condition.  Matching Continental ContiSportContact 225/40 ZR18 upfront and 255/35 ZR18 at the rear are fitted.  The brakes are powerful, well weighted, and have a reassuringly firm pedal feel.

HISTORY FILE
To the cognoscenti of British high-performance enthusiasts, the Sytner name is inexorably linked to that of Alpina with this example being registered new on the 7th April 2003 by Sytner Nottingham.  With just two former keepers from new, the last Mr Purton since May 2005, this car has been cherished and is build number 037 of just 161 made.  The Sytner purchase invoice is included in the history file along with the original advert and specification sheet.  The total retail price of the vehicle was £52,285.  Every MOT from new and all service invoices have been kept and neatly filed.  A total of seven BMW Main Dealer and Specialist entries are recorded in the service book with corresponding invoices.  All handbooks, including the rare Alpina supplementary handbook contained in the leather wallet with green and blue striping, often kept back as a souvenir of ownership, are included.  Two sets of keys are present on Alpina leather key fobs and all sales brochures as supplied when new along with the Sales Executives business card.
