A Ford Escort Mk2 RS1800 Custom Recreation in Press Car Carnival Red

EQUIPMENT
Two circular halogen headlights, front air dam, rubberised tail spoiler, unique bodyside stripes, ‘RS1800’ decals, laminated windscreen, simulated leather covered sports steering wheel, hazard warning flashers, heated rear window, separate fuel, water temperature and oil pressure gauges, padded sun visors, two-speed heater, aeroflow ventilation with eye ball vents. Optional Equipment; Vinyl roof, remote black door mirrors, Custom Pack comprising of, centre console, glove box, facia mounted clock.

EXTERIOR
The exterior of this RS 1800 Recreation is stunning in every respect. Finished in the same colour as the Ford Press Car, Carnival Red, it has a wonderful polished sheen and uniform appearance. The distinctive squared-up nose styling and front air dam are iconic features of this Ford Rallye Sport Escort and remain free from damage. The glass, rubbers and lights remain in excellent order along with the optional factory fitted vinyl roof. Correct decals adorn the flanks as per the Ford Press Car and Geneva Motor Show car. Utterly gorgeous and a real show stopper.

INTERIOR
The interior of this RS1800 offers simple sporting pleasure. The twin high back reclining Scheel front seats in Black fabric, (code A7) with head restraints are amazing, perfectly clean and offer incredible support. The carpets, fully trimmed door cards and black fascia are all very clean. All the gauges and warning lights function correctly with the ‘RS’ logo within the five white needle instrument cluster reminding the driver how special this Ford is. The correct 120mph speedo is fitted. The headlining is correctly finished in black and the boot area is spotlessly clean still protected by the almost impossible to source fitted mat and the rubber strap holding the spare wheel.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
This example is fitted with the desirable Zetec E Ford RS1800 engine which powered the Fiesta RS1800 between 1992-1995. The engine has had a complete rebuild with new pistons, oil pump, water pump, core plugs and a full tune and service. 128bhp is quoted for the standard engine with 0-60mph of 8.3secs and a top speed of 112mph on par with the original. The engine bay has been detailed and is spotlessly clean. A rebuilt 5-speed Type-9 gearbox with a new clutch and quick-shift gives an exhilarating drive.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Standard and very rare 5.5JX13 bright silver painted steel styled wheels with metal RS centre caps are shod in matching 185/60 R13 tyres. The braking system has been upgraded with larger front discs and rear drums from a Capri 2.8 Special with brake bias control to offer adequate braking performance.

HISTORY FILE
With only 109 road cars built between March 1975 and September 1977 the Escort RS 1800 Mk2 is an exceptionally rare and sought after car. All RS1800`s were produced in Diamond white with the exceptions of one Geneva Motor Show car and one Press Car JJN 100N that were produced in Carnival Red, and to date another road car leaving the factory in Venetian Red XYD 992S. (Source Ford RS Owners Club). This example is a recreation of the Ford Press Car and was originally supplied by Rallye Sport dealers, Thomas Motors Ltd in Cleveleys to Mr Todd as a 2 door 1300 Ghia on the 10th August 1976. On his passing in 1981 his wife, Mrs Nora Todd, took ownership and it remained largely unused until blue oval enthusiast, Martin Jones bought the car in November 2013 with 31,200 miles. Mr Jones, a Mechanical Engineer by profession, had restored a number of Lotus Cortina’s but always wanted to own a Mk2 Escort RS1800. Realising that sourcing such a project was becoming increasingly unlikely he set about sourcing the best Escort Mk2 2 door he could find and built his own recreation. His efforts are truly remarkable with an appearance at the NEC Classic Car Show where the owner of the genuine Venetian Red RS1800 example remarked, ‘it’s a credit to the owner, it’s a fantastic car!’
