SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

A formidable Ford Escort Mk2 RS2000 Custom in original condition.

EQUIPMENT
Polyurethane front end incorporating four Cibie quartz halogen headlamps, front air dam, rubberised tail spoiler, twin bodyside coachline, RS2000 decals, black door mirrors, laminated windscreen, hazard warning flashers, heated rear window, separate fuel, water temperature and oil pressure gauges, padded sun visors, two-speed heater, aeroflow ventilation with eye ball vents. RS Custom features; Recaro front seats with fishnet headrests, centre console, glovebox, quartz clock, remote control drivers door mirror, bronze tinted glass, full trimmed door cards, cut pile carpeting, vanity mirror, alloy road wheels. Dealership accessories; Ford mud flaps, rear seat belts.

EXTERIOR
This excellent RS2000 finished in vibrant Venetian Red boasts a marvellous deep shine and uniform finish. This example has avoided the common modification and lowering tendencies and remains exactly as Ford intended. Minor paintwork imperfections are notable under scrutiny but certainly do not spoil the appeal. Worthy of mention are a small amount of paint lift to the lower nearside door which has not penetrated the original door skin. All trim sections, RS decals and badges remain intact and are in good order. Unique Custom features such as the Bronze tinted glass and black back panel remain. A sunroof has been neatly installed from new and security deadlocks to the doors. The boot floor is very clean with factory markings visible, and the underside is free from excess application of underseal to allow an honest inspection. A very usable and attractive RS2000, one for the avid blue oval enthusiast wanting to exploit maximum enjoyment from classic Ford ownership.

INTERIOR
The interior of this example has remained absolutely original in every respect. The Black fabric (code A8) to the Recaro ‘fishnet’ front seats and rear bench still wear the original coverings which will require a re-trim for those seeking perfection. This task thankfully can be undertaken by renowned and trusted experts, Aldridge Trimming Ltd to factory specification. The fascia and undamaged padded dash top houses fully functional gauges and rocker switches and the original leather bound three spoke steering is undamaged. The heater fan is functional on both speed settings but the clock has stopped. The cut pile carpets and fully trimmed door panels are in excellent condition and Ford labels can still be seen on the seat belts. The headlining is perfect. A classic Ford interior displaying wonderful originality.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The original 1993cc SOHC engine remains fitted to this matching numbers vehicle with standard features such as the Ford plastic air box cover. The engine bay is clean and factory metal data plates and the black plastic bulkhead cover are still present. Performance figures of 108.2mph top speed and 0-60 in just 8.5 seconds are more than respectable, even for modern standards. The standard 4 speed transmission remains fitted and is light and exact.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Genuine Ford RS alloy road wheels have just been refurbished to perfect standard with matching quality Kumho 185/60 R13 tyres showing plenty of tread. The spare alloy wheel is housed in the boot area alongside the original jack. Vacuum servo assisted front disc brakes with rear drums brakes offer fair braking but fall short of modern standards.

HISTORY FILE
Supplied new through the Ford Rallye Sport dealer network on the 6th October 1978, this Mk2 RS2000 Custom has enjoyed enthusiast ownership and is known to the RS community. The previous keeper being an avid collector who owns no less than fifteen Mk1 and Mk2 sporting Escorts purchased this car to add to his collection. His knowledge and passion for the RS2000 is infectious and persuasion to part with the car was achieved only after purchase of our recently sold 1980 example, also in Venetian Red! Details on file confirm an insurance pay out was made on the 28th February 1996.

The history file comprises of a collection of previous MOT certificates and invoices along with the original handbook and marketing material. This superb looking example is ready for total enjoyment and classic car show attendance whereby much admiration is a certainty.
