Full description

An iconic and classic UK Vespa Douglas Clubman with just two owners from new.

Chrome footboard runners with black rubbers, Piaggio shield badge, Vespa badge, aluminium trim strip to cowl seams, glovebox cowl on left side, chrome rear view mirror, Veglia clamshell design speedometer/odometer, shell chrome horn cover, light control switch, fuel on/reserve valve, engine kill switch, kick starter.

Successor to the handlebar ‘widebody’ Vespa’s this stunning variant formed the basis for almost all largeframe Vespa’s and represents an early cult classic design.  Finished in almost flawless glossy metallic Azzurro which complements the chrome enhancements beautifully this Vespa draws admiration from all.  The distinctive two piece taillight and larger headlamp function correctly as does the crafted clamshell speedometer.    The black seat material is unmarked and a chip on the headset can be seen.  Some removable transfers have been attached.  The Piaggio logo can be seen in the grips and along with all the badges offers a glorious spectacle of classic scooter nostalgia.

The original 145.6cc engine has been replaced with the simplistic and extremely rugged rotary valve 125cc to enables spirited progress with excellent fuel economy.  The registration document has been updated accordingly. A four-speed transmission for better cruising ability compared to the earlier three-speed variants is also fitted.

Vespa 8” polished aluminium cast wheels with new matching SR Michellin 3.50–10 tubeless tyres are fitted front, rear and spare.  The front wheel has a stainless hubcap.  Expansion type brakes with flexible control cables operate correctly.

Similar to an Italian VB1T that was finally assembled by the UK Douglas factory, this Vespa was registered new on the 30th May 1960.  Amazingly it has only had two owners from new.  The first, a Mr Thomas Albert Rainbow who remained the custodian for 42 years followed by the most recent of which being a successful Italian restaurant entrepreneur.  He had this classic Vespa on display along with other Italian memorabilia for diners to marvel at while enjoying authentic cuisine.  Fortunately, he also enjoyed riding his machines, so numerous invoices are included revealing expenditure to keep the bike road legal.  The original brown registration document is included.   A current MOT and tax exempt enables immediate use.  The scooter is also HPI clear.
