A prized enthusiast owned BMW E30 M3 Johnny Cecotto number 291/505
The E30 M3 debuted at the 1985 Frankfurt motor show.  Produced at the Milbertshofe factory in Munich with the drivetrain assembled by special teams and the chassis thoroughly reworked by BMW Motorsport in every significant area.  The only reason for this iconic vehicles birth was to allow BMW to compete in Group A racing where a minimum of 5000 road going examples had to be built.  The Johnny Cecotto special version was built to celebrate the many competition victories this driver enjoyed and introduced the 215bhp 2.3 litre S14 engine with the unique body-coloured valve cover amongst other distinguishing features.  Only 480 were built in 1989, (505 including the Roberto Ravaglia), each being individually numbered, this example being 291 and manufactured on the 29th June 1989. Flared wheel arches, Evolution II front and rear spoilers, optimised rear wing with flow bar, thin rear and side windows, plastic boot lid, weight reduced body parts, rev related servo-assisted steering, M Technic foot rest, green tinted windshield, M Technic leather-clad steering wheel, BMW sports seats, aluminium disc with individual production number signed by ‘Johnny Cecotto’, sill plates with a colour "M3" insignia, twin halogen headlamps, electric door mirrors, power front windows, glove box torch, M Technic instrument cluster, SI service-interval indicator, outside temperature display, check/control info centre, on-board computer II, sunroof, toolbox in boot lid, oil temperature gauge.

This iconic and historically important BMW M3 Johnny Cecotto is finished in Macao Blue metallic (paint Code 250 - one of only three colours available), and retains a deep gloss finish of a cherished car other than the lightweight boot lid, rear wings and side sills due to the light weight plastic construction.  Attractive from any angle with elegant flared wheel arches, large low-slung spoilers and extra-wide side sills all help accentuate the dynamic looks. Tiny markings commensurate with a 25 year old car include minor stone chips to the front bumper and lower spoiler and a touched in mark to the boot lip.  The N/S front indicator lens has a faint crack.  These do not detract from the overall impressive appearance, this car is a real crowd stopper.

Fabulous in every respect and a true reflection of careful low ownership and BMW premium quality.  The BMW sports seats in Motorsport Anthracite design and Bison silver leather bolsters, (Code 0344) offer superb body support at all times.  Minor veins to the leather can be seen.  The door cards echo the harmonious design colours and along with all the other crafted materials are in excellent order.   Carpeting has been protected by genuine BMW velour mats.  The leather gear shift knob is in excellent condition but does not illuminate.  The aluminium disc with the individualised production number ‘291/505’ signed by Johnny Cecotto reminds the driver how important this BMW is while glancing at the clearly marked M Technic sports dials and unbroken digital readouts.  The boot toolkit is complete, a first-aid kit wrapped in film, still unopened and a warning triangle are all present. The glove box torch is included but does not operate.  The front screen has been replaced with a genuine item incorporating the green stripe. Perfect exclusivity.

The heart of this desirable M3 is the second version of the S14 16-valve 4 cylinder engine showcased for the first time in this Special Edition.  Producing 215bhp at 6,750rpm and 170lb/ft of torque at 4,600rpm a top speed of 140mph and 0-60mph in 6.7 seconds is possible.  The important body-coloured valve cover is still fitted. A Scorpion DTM exhaust system has been fitted which emits a glorious bark.  A five speed manual close-ratio Getrag transmission with a dogleg shift pattern is a delight to use.  A privileged drive for serious car enthusiasts.

BMW cross-spoke 7.5 X 16 inch alloy wheels with unique metallic black centres correct to this Special Edition have markings.  Shod in brand new Yokohama Advan 225/45 ZR16 tyres.  ABS inner-vented, fist calliper reinforced disc brakes front and rear offer incredible feel and immense stopping power once up to temperature.

Registered new on the 20th November 1989 in Munich, Germany the vehicle had two owners before entering the UK in 1998 as proven by the German Fahrzeugbrief included in the history file, (equivalent to UK Registration Document). Three former keepers have cherished this car since UK registration on the 13th March 1998.  On entry to the UK the vehicle had covered 65,865 miles and now has 143,257 miles as verified by every MOT certificate since 1998 neatly filed.  Enthusiast owned throughout with the vehicle being proudly on display in a BMW Main Dealer Showroom due to being owned by a BMW employee and subsequently the previous owner is a serious BMW collector.  His collection includes historically important cars such as the 1990 BMW E30 M3 DTM Schnitzer car driven by Fabien Giroix, the 1991 BMW E30 M3 Production Saloon Group N winning car and a later 1998 24hr Spa winning E36 Super Production car amongst many others.
